These stories are so creepy! Getting strange calls from people you don't know is scary enough, but when they start showing up places uninvited it becomes really unsettling and dangerous. I'll be extra cautious about answering calls from numbers I don't recognize after hearing these. Short, mysterious calls late at night from heavy breathers are the worst. Glad the police were able to help in some cases. Stay safe out there everyone!
Landlines sometimes crossed. When I was in college happened to me three times in one night and always with the same number or line. On the third time, the guy who answered the calls was already annoyed and ask me what was happening. I explained that apparently our lines were crossed because I dialed a friend’s number, but it was his number that was ringing. The guy calmed down, we continued talking for about an hour that night and many nights afterward. Next month, we will celebrate our 27 wedding anniversary. 🤷🏽♀️
Ah yes, the old days of not knowing who was calling, and creepy people making weird calls. Almost seems innocent compared to what they do on the internet now. Also when a ringing phone was IRRESISTIBLE and everyone came running😂
Makes me think about a family member getting a strange phone call from a woman hysterically crying on the other end. Apparently this is some sort of scam and nothing came of it, but I couldn't imagine answering that call myself. Creepy. Great stuff as always!
I got one where some guy said that my mom got into an accident, actually I was with my grandmother and she picked up and of course was desperate, but it was all a scam, I wish I was the one picking up because I would have cursed at that guy all the imaginable curse words in my vocabulary and threatened him to call the police 😡
OMG…when I moved to the country, my dad received THAT kind of call one night. Mum rang me early the next morning to ask if I was okay? Everything was great and then mum told me a woman crying and blubbering to my dad, but he couldn’t understand anything and thought it was me in distress! He tried to call me back that night, but we were sleeping and no one heard the phone! They were so relieved to know it wasn’t me…but we always wondered if it was someone in real distress out there somewhere!?! 🫤
Story 1 was never true, as it is set when internet-capable camera cellphones already existed. People seem to misremember when technologies first appeared. We've had social media for 27 years already, and camera phones turned 23 this year, and text messages (aka SMS) turned 31 this year. Caller ID was invented in 1968, and went mass market for businesses in 1988, and for home users in 1989.
@@thelastmotel I assume most of these stories aren't true where the plot is, but you're objectively wrong about time when you consider emergence and availability or ubiquity aren't directly related or happen concurrently. Right. They probably didn’t. Those stories where they did and answered the calls anyway I just shook my head at. Why people answer numbers they don’t recognize is beyond me. Especially with all the spam and scam calls now.

If you call 911 bc a stranger is at your door and won't go away, they're not hang up with you. They're going to stay on the line until the police arrive.

When I was a toddler in the early 90s, answering machines were still a thing. My parents thought it would be cute to have me record our family’s message. It was fine until they received a voicemail from some man saying “awww. What a sweet little girl. Too bad you won’t have her much longer.” Then he laughed an evil laugh and hung up. Probably just a prank call, but after that, my parents only had my Dad make our answering machine message.
The 5th story where that guy texted and said "you can tell a lot about somebody when looking them up online" would really creep me out and give me a bad vibe about that person. After that I would make sure my doors and windows are locked and keep my lights off.
Just hang up on kooks. Or blow a whistle into the receiver. Or don't answer the phone. DON'T PLAY THEIR GAME! Another option: change your number, and do not have it listed.
I've gotten strange phone calls from unknown numbers but of course I don't like answering my phone when it's a strange number I don't recognize cause you just never know who's on the other end of the line and a lot of the time I don't answer it. These are super creepy stories.
My phone horror story is when my mother in law calls and i answer without looking at the caller ID. Only thing worse is when she stops by...unannounced...and i open the door. The horror😮.
Depending on where she grew up. I was rural.and never got creepy calls..long distance calls were short as it wasn't cheap. Phone numbers were posted by town in a phone book sent free from phone company
You aren't mistaken. Mobile phones have been around a long time. Since 1973, in fact. Text messaging was added to them in 1992, which was the same year the first touch screen phone was released. Prepaid phones came around about 1991. Camera phones have been around since 2000, and smart phones and internet capable phones have been around since 1994. For some reason, a lot of people have this kind of mental block which prevents them from remembering how long we've had the things lol. Hell, people forget that social media has been around for about 27 years already.
When I was a kid my friend and I would do prank phone calls. One time someone called her back and she had a conversation with a man. Apparently he had called her a few times and they talked together. It was really disturbing bc there's no good reason for a random man to call and chat with a child.
why do people not call the cops immediately instead of being like “ur gunna get arrested so u better stay here” like bro if i hear cops are coming i’m out
First story, he or she picked up the landline it's very obvious that the other person who called is going to know that he or she is home. I don't know why the OP even questioned that one, now if it was on a cell phone then it's a different story.
5:10 How could know that op was home? Could he possibly??? My guy you answered the phone how do you think they could possibly discover that kind of information.
Rare to find a house hold that still has a house phone. A phone ringing non stop wouldn't fly in this cell phone era where cells can vibrate and block numbers etc
Most landlines back then it was just an option. You had to pay extra. And if your parents were penny pinchers it was likely they didn't bother. My dad worked for the phone co so our land lines were free back then and he never paid extra for the caller ID, three way calling, or things like that. So it's possible OP had a similar situation.
