It's subjective. Simon and Matt subscribe to "what have you done for me lately?" Goze, Mike and I subscribe to "what have you done?" But in the end, it was a fun discussion. Hope you enjoyed it.
@@MMAJunkieGeorgegood debate but i think its too subjective too. Instead all criteria you all said there s another criteria like the level of each division. Everyone says in general that lightweight is the most relevant division and the lightweight the weakest (ESPN ranked them before ufc 300) Also Ufc doesnt let Guys like Makhachev to move up. I think he easily beat Belal or Even Leon before him. But if we refer as the exact definition of p4p its Mike Bohn who s right. If all these champions were at the same weight who s is winning. And He s right for Jones and Makhachev. Pereira is the less well rounded.
I prefer a champion to defend the title five times before jumping to a new division. You have to be fair to those chasing you in your division, as well as the title challengers of the champion you're challenging. In a perfect world, both champions have cleared out their divisions, like when we wanted Silva vs. GSP.
Thanks to everyone for watching! Bottom line for me: In no way will I confuse GOAT criteria with Rankings criteria. This is about what have you done for me lately - who you’ve beaten, how you’ve beaten them, how active you are. Jon Jones was No. 5 in our USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie P4P rankings heading into UFC 309. Given how Stipe was unranked and how he looked like a shell of himself in there, that quality of victory wasn’t enough FOR ME to propel Jones to No. 1 ahead of guys who have some incredible resumes this year. Period.
Remember, after Jon fought Cereal Gain they had Jon and francis ngannou was in the mix but Dana failed to give francis ngannou the money he deserved to fight Jon that was an entire year of Jon's layoff. His prior layoff was to bulk up to heave weight correctly .
This hypothetical thing who beat who...it's like teens bragging who could beat who:) Recent resume is definitely more important. i like the argument with changing divisions and also activity. So Pereira is difinitely number one, because he fought lot of people and former/future champions.
Jon jones bc he was dominant at LH, and wins the HW belt and defended it, Alex Pereira did not defend the MW belt, currently Islam ties the record of LW title defenses, but 2 of those defenses were the same guy.
Please where is the sense in saying Islam fought " a featherweight" ?? HE FOUGHT VOLK, someone who is at least top 10 OF ALL TIME and volk weighed in the same weight as Islam the first fight. In the second fight Volk cut around 13 pounds!!! these wins Islam is racking are unheard of and discrediting them like that is just VERY crazy to me.
At the beginning of the show, I said it might sound like we're discrediting, but we're not. In this type of discussion, you point out the very little flaws in their resumes. Jones and Pereira went up and tested themsevles against bigger competition. Two of Makhachev's title defenses were against a featherweight. He's a great featherweight, but still a smaller man than Makhachev.
@@MMAJunkieGeorge He was the same weight as Islam?? 😂"smaller man than Islam" makes zero sense because he's not stepping in as a feather weight. THEY ARE THE SAME WEIGHT.
#1 Picogram for Picogram
current p4p you would think you need to be pretty active in the last few years, beating top 5 guys.

Completely agree, not an overreaction 🔥
No he has a contender he is ducking
That will hurt him in the GOAT discussion. Not P4P. IMO.
I'll just say Alien Invasion Game. Every single fighter picks Jon Jones. P4P + GOAT + Pure Killer
What about Ngannou and Aspinall?
@@MMAJunkieGeorge They do not get picked every single time, especially not Aspinall.

Jones is not a true HW champ!
Why not?
Jon jones bc he was dominant at LH, and wins the HW belt and defended it, Alex Pereira did not defend the MW belt, currently Islam ties the record of LW title defenses, but 2 of those defenses were the same guy.
He didn't defend his HW title it was more of a filler fight

Islam!!!!!!
@@cross1863 If I had to guess, on fight night Volk was 170. Makhachev was about 180.
