Idk about the Mk.2 and Mk.3 of the expert, but I think the improvements Waterman gave to the newer Expert models kind of throw off the old, nearly perfect balance the Mk.1 had. I wish they still make the Mk.1 more instead of the metal counterparts......

Thanks Troy. Interesting about writing better on photocopy paper rather than Rhodia! I picked up my Expert new on sale for US$60. Love the weight of the body.

The expert ii is a good solid and beautiful every day writer. I have the urban blue CT which really stands out. It also came in grey (the one you are showing) and brown. There is also a GT line with 14k gold nib in different colours and a line with several Matt finishes. Because the expert ii is metal it has a substantial weight and good handholding. Thanks for the review 👍

Thanks Troy. I acquired a brand new Waterman Expert Deluxe 3 White CT Fountain Pen with the fancy Palladium cap. The seller was reputable but the price was so good that I was concerned. Your video and the links provided have reassured me that I found a bargain. Unlike your collection, this is my only Waterman so far. I'm enjoying its smoothness and reliability.

I used to have an Expert II with black enamel and gold furniture. I bought sometime in the late 90s. It was a lovely writer, very smooth. It disappeared about seven years ago, unfortunately.

Is might get a I to try that nib. I own 3 of the III, and highly recommend it. Black Mat and Brown are a nice touch compared to the lacquered black.

    Hi Troy,
Funny that you said you had only seen the Waterman II in the grey body, because I have it black with the gold accents. It was given to me by a friend in '97/'98, with an oddly bent nib...couldn't figure out how it got that way and neither could he. When I began to research the style and issue dates for the pen, I found very little information that would help me determine which one I had, until I came upon your video. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you.

I too have experienced a very few pens that won’t write worth a hoot on Rhodia paper - I would love to know why!

Very interesting nib! Off topic: A while ago you unboxed an amazing pen: Newton Shinobi. I have been looking forward to a review but haven't seen one yet. Did the pen live up to your expectations?

I will add that to one of my next Q&A videos soon. Thanks for asking. Short answer, though...yes...and no.

Hi the expert 3 or the embleme which one do you prefer? Looking to buy a new Waterman. I own a parked IM and a TWSBI eco.
Btw: if you havent made a cross bailey review, pls make one. Also, cross bailey vs expert3 vs embleme which one!
    Thanks so much!

Thanks for watching and commenting. If I had to choose between the Expert 3, which I acquired well after this video was made, and the Embleme, I would pick the Expert. I have not yet done a video on the Bailey. The Bailey is not even in the same league as the two Watermans. I would ignore the Bailey in order to bey a Waterman any day. The Bailey was one of my first fountain pen purchases when I started in the hobby. I rarely even consider using it.

Agreed, I have a soft spot for Waterman and Parker. Why is the expert 3 more desirable any reasons? The expert 3 is metal body and the embleme is plastic body right? Have you had any experience with the Parker IM (Waterman hemisphere’s Parker brother) and would the expert 3 be a considerable step up?Either way I will definitely subscribe! Keep up the great work thank you!

@@rhashem1534 The Expert 3 is just a better quality pen than the Embleme and certainly better than the Bailey. The Expert 3 is a metal body (starting with the Expert 2). Prior to that, it was a plastic body with Expert 1. But it is not the material that in my opinion makes it more desirable. To me, it looks, ergonomics, and performance. The Embleme has a metal cap with plastic barrel and metal internal lining. The Embleme is basically a revival of a Phileas with slight changes. I love the Phileas (1990's model) and find it superior to the Embleme as well. I have a bunch of Phileas models and like them all better than the Embleme for the most part. I have two Expert 1, two Expert 2, and one Expert 3. All of the Experts are better than the Embleme as well.
I have not tried the Parker IM, so I don't have a good basis for comparison. I don't have a lot of modern Parkers compared to vintage models, but I do have Vectors and the Urban. I certainly prefer the Watermans over modern Parkers.

Have you tried the Waterman perspective? I think it looks cool and writes really well so it’s a deathmatch between perspective and expert imo!

Thanks for the review. I've just picked up a NOS Expert II off Ebay mislabled as a Laureat in a green marble, very similar to a Laureat II I have. Writes well, even on Rhodia ;-) it's a smooth writer, not very wet and has a fair amount of feedback. Hand on heart I can't say it writes better than any of my Laureats, though the nib is prettier.

What other brands are Waterman fountain pen cartridges valid for?

    • @fountainpenfanatic
      @fountainpenfanatic  2 года назад

Waterman made a few pens for Pelikan like the P580 model that takes a Waterman cartridge. I don't go trying Waterman cartridges in other pens usually. They are usually proprietary to Waterman.

Such a long, innovative history but they have been stuffed around which is a real shame.
