Municipalities love property taxes. Developers love to build homes in affluent areas. Look for instances where developers have been told not to build due to wildfire concerns. Homes are built where somebody’s making $$$.
I recommend everyone listen to 2 TED talks by Larry Lessig, on how the Net has endangered democracy and on how our country is no longer a democracy because of the rich and powerful corporations who really bend the policies of our country to their own ends. Very eye-opening.
Hmmm, well, well, well, incoming admin is concerned about geo-strategic security so we need Canada & Greenland. If we want to actually counter Russia, then toe the line in Ukraine. A thousand times more bang for our bucks bc it strengthens our foundation w/allies, makes the correct statement, buttresses our decades-long commitments, & draws the correct line in the sand. Switching to these "new" shaky defensive measures just telegraph ultimate weakness, not strength. They telegragh the flawed mindset of their origin.
I hate it when commentators never, ever mention that part of the problem with the deficit is that the country does not tax rich persons and rich corporations as they should! It's such a scam!
