    Does anyone know if Google is abandoning the Nest products? I bought a 2nd generation Nest Protect (wired) and it is not supported by Google Home or the newest Google Hubs with video. It's crazy.

    I just installed mine but I have 3 white and 3 black wires already coming down. Not sure which one to use but I connect the nest white with all the white and black with all the 3 other black and twists with the cap. I hope I'm doing it right as there are more wires then I see on this video.

      The other black and white wires are probably the wires that lead to your other smoke alarms

    At 2:16, when they turn the power back in it shows them flipping a 50 amp breaker. I have a feeling if you connected a Nest to that circuit the 240V supply would blast it right off the wall.

      @jtodd76 8 лет назад +6

      How funny...I noticed the same thing. I'm sure only a select few picked that up or were bothered by it. And to the other poster, I don't know of any thermostat that uses a 50A DP 220 breaker. 50A is usually reserved for the stove but could also be used for other things...but certainly not in this application. I'm guessing they just flipped any breaker since they were only making a video and it didn't matter.

      Harward Ones, however, if you have a heat detector in your garage and a fire occurs in the garage it wont set off your detectors in the house since Nest tells you to cap the red interconnect wire. This will not pass fire code.

    • @johngwallis
      @johngwallis 7 лет назад +2

      if it's not a nest alarm then no. As the video says it dose not need the communication wire because it has no use for it because nest communicates wirelessly so either way it would not be hooked up to your other alarms.

    Why the plug is not centered and flat?
    Because it is not exactly in the centre and because it is not flushed with the sensor I need to drill bigger hole in my ceiling, otherwise it is impossible to rotate it into the backplate... Such a simple thing could save people a lot of time and save their ceilings from unnecessary holes ...

    • @PTechMedia
      @PTechMedia 2 месяца назад +2

      as a pro installer this really annoys me too. and the fact that the power cable isn't double insulated as required for all cables ... I have to either install a lining box, or just bodge it with sleeving (and wago the actual connection) its a joke. because google know the requirements. but the biggest issue I have being the off centre plug - I cant patch the hole, but worse still. they could even make the plug disappear into the unit! it doesn't need to protrude.

    My Kidde wired detectors expire in 2023. I'm WAS looking forward to upgrading to Nest Protects as I already have Nets Yale, Nest Hello, Nest Thermostat and more. Upon research I found that installing Nest Wired Protects throughout the house would cause a failed fire inspection. BE CAREFUL. If you have a wired heat detector in your garage (standard to code in new homes now) it will be rendered useless. If you have a garage fire from a car or something else the wired heat detector will set off the Kidde Alarms that are currently hardwired in my house. If they are Nest Wireless Interconnect they will not go off (red wire not connected to Nest Protects). Maybe Nest can come up with a fix before I am ready to replace my smoke detectors. If they don't I will have to stick with the non-wireless interconnect detectors. I still like Nest products though. Good Quality but customer service needs some work!!!
