If I had to hazard a guess the reason it didn't work this attempt as it worked in the past, is not enough time was given between paint layers for things to cure properly. Acrylic primers, and paints are dry to the touch in just a few minutes but can take 24hrs or more to cure. I think the problem was attempting to do to many painting effect in a single day/session. If you waited at least a day after applying the brown/black primer before applying a chipping fluid layer and light colored layer to get the chipping effect, the brown layer probably would have been cured enough to allow for the immediate oil wash. But because the primer coat wasn't cured fully it was significantly softened by the chipping fluid, and then the combination of solvents and agitation of the wash step cause sections to slough off down to bare plastic. Alternatively if you waited a day or two after chipping but before the wash you probably wouldn't have had this problem. Your hubris attempting to prime, chip and oil wash in a single session was your downfall /s ;) (I can empathize with the frustration on things not working as intended, I happy to see it all worked out in the end)

Here is the deal. There are two parts to this hobby: painting and playing the actual game. I get that RUclips is a visual media, so you get all of these painting videos. If you are not entering contests, and actually intend to play the game, almost any kind of painting is Okay. I feel that everyone doing channels like this can be way to picky about their stuff. There is no need for that if these models are meant for the game and not a painting contest. I would play this rhino on any table anywhere and be Okay with it. It looks pretty darn good. just get in there and roll the dice. The pieces don't have to be perfect.

you pulled out of that tailspin pretty gracefully. well done. at like 50% of the way through i was thinking "just strip it and start again". but you pushed through at it looks pretty good!
In the middle of the project when I started to do the streaking grime, it was reacting to the chipping medium or something, the whole model got kind of sticky snd the paint was coming off…no good! It did work out in the end though :)
A lot of the times I don’t, because I want the enamel to stain the color underneath. But I’m also usually working with standard acrylics that are dry before putting in anything else. In this case the second go was varnished beforehand, made a huge difference! In just about every case it’s best to varnish before applying enamels and oils.

I’ve done that before, but the longer I’ve been in this hobby the more I’ve come to realize that there are things that can simply be fixed by working on it a little longer rather than stripping it back down. Using an airbrush kind of negates the idea of paint clogging details too, so that really helps. There are always exceptions of course, and I think those mostly fall under paint clogging details, and usually on faces, I’ve found. In a nutshell, most paint jobs look not so great until you begin to really hone in on the details, so keep at it, cause it’s probably not as bad as you think :)

Haha, You should poke a hole in the bottom of it to drain. If you paint it before that things could leak through the cracks and ruin that paint!!
I am curious, why didn't you simply treat it like a rescue and strip it when you saw it go off the rails?
I’ve done that before, but the longer I’ve been in this hobby the more I’ve come to realize that there are things that can simply be fixed by working on it a little longer rather than stripping it back down. Using an airbrush kind of negates the idea of paint clogging details too, so that really helps. There are always exceptions of course, and I think those mostly fall under paint clogging details, and usually on faces, I’ve found. In a nutshell, most paint jobs look not so great until you begin to really hone in on the details, so keep at it, cause it’s probably not as bad as you think :)
I can't find the link to where you got the prints, do they have other stuff?
My bad, I updated the description! Here’s the link though:

@@eBayMiniatureRescues All good, thank you.
i know im gonna get destroyed for this but i subbed for you and your awesome ebay rescues. all this baby bullshit is invasive and unwanted. ima head out. il not be missed i know, but il miss what this channel was
Hey man, to each their own. I’m certainly not going to tell you to keep watching if you don’t like it, but I think, and I’m being seriously genuine, that you need to take a look at whatever situation you find yourself in and rethink some things. My child being invasive and unwanted is a very serious thing to say, and not because it’s straight up over the line to tell someone something like that, but that I fear you are in a state that may be detrimental to your growth as a person and growth with any kind of substantial relationships moving forward. If you need help just let me know and I’ll do what I can to help. In the mean time, go check out some of my friends mini painting channels. I’ll still be here when you want to check back in.

What a wholesome reply to a very unnecessary comment. Mad props.

Brah. The amount of cringe you're putting out is unbearable.
Not wanting your own kids is fine. Not wanting to be around children is... weird, but okay.
But if you've got to the point that you feel strongly enough about briefly seeing children in a hobby video that you think it's okay to post comments like this? You've gone to far mate. Casey is right, you should do some self reflection to work out the issues you have that allow you to think this behaviour is anything other than utterly obnoxious.
For the time being I suggest you stop viewing, let alone commenting.
It might be more editing effort than it's worth but, are there plans to do a community rescues video, so yo can see some rescues you've inspired?
Never really thought about it before. The hashtag ebayminiaturerescue has been growing quite a bit on Instagram, could be fun to go through the tagged photos :)
