if the sun had a face I believe that this man is the face of the Sun and his facial features are so full of life and so joyous and I really enjoy the music
DRAM feels familiar, old school. Its in his voice, the runs and notes he chooses. That's really been in him since a kid, you can tell. It's in him it ain't on him. AND he's happy af lol cheezing & shit lol which is always good to see...hell I'm happy now lol.
"D.R.A.M. always was grounded in a diverse range of music. 'I stayed with my grandparents a lot growing up and they went to church all the time,' he says. 'I sang on the choir. My mom had a little gospel group when I was growing up too. But outside of church, I was just on soul music heavy. People like Al Green, or those songs that you automatically know but never know whose song it is.'"
I get what you mean, he reminds me of those 80's RNB singers before music was totally over produced. As if they were walking a tight rope and a misstep in any direction would make there voice awful but also made their sound unique.
he's like a springy sunday morning, sleeping in with rays of sunshine waking you up and your loved one next to you hugging, with a golden retriever puppy sleeping at the bottom of the bed
The Groovy Guitar Dude - Daily Guitar Lessons D.R.A.M. is a lot more talented than people give him credit for. Dude can sing his ass off. Lyrics aren't that bad too. Not the same ol' crap time and time again.
Listen, if you've watched the T-Pain episode and not learned to recalibrate your expectations, I don't know what to tell you. If you haven't watched it, watch it!
The Groovy Guitar Dude - Daily Guitar Lessons I'm going to be honest, the word groovy and your D.P don't go together because you look far from a groovy type dude. don't judge a book by its cover. peace
Just stumbled onto DRAM's Tiny desk performance in 2020 aaaaand whoever in the comments said that he's underrated and this was very lit......you guys are so right .
This guy is peak #CareFreeBlackBoys. I can't help but smile when I hear his music! He deserves it too after being scammed outta money by Drake for Hotline Bling
I slept on DRAM for too long! His voice is amazing and he’s hella talented. He has a old school twist on his voice almost like al green. I hope he keeps making good music and that smile is gold🙃
D.R.A.M is "truly" talented. Love the "catchy" tunes and his voice is perfect 👌🏼 for his style of music. Every time I play his music it just always puts me in a "fun" "happy" mood! Also, the "band" is on point, talented, perfect harmony especially with his voice. Just perfectly flows. Love this performance!
This man is very special to me because of his positive outlook on most things in life, and I don't think there's anyone as positive and lovable in R&B right now.
this man's smile & positive energy are incredibly infectious . had an awesome time seeing him live for the first time last week at the el rey . highly recommend you guys catch one of his shows .
i come back every few months for this beautiful performance of sweet va breeze. the song is just so magical and his intro to the song always makes my heart ache.
His voice is so unique. It's almost off-putting (the way that his voice doesn't always match the style of the instrumental parts), yet at the same time that's why I love it so much. His voice also helps to guide the emotion of the songs really well. Songs that could come off as sad with any other singer come off lighthearted with his voice. I'm really happy to see someone with as unique of a style as his become super popular. These past couple of years have been littered with countless singers and rappers that sound so similar that it's hard to tell them apart by their voice alone. D.R.A.M. is a refreshing artist, and I'm glad to have found him through this video.
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AND I HOPE HE LIVES FOREVER BECAUSE HE MAKES ME SO HAPPY LOOK AT THAT PRICELESS SMILE I SWEAR TO GOD. "I LOVE IT WHEN YOU SING TO ME ...MY DRAM MACHINE"
I dont really see what everyone else is talkin about here though., Sayin stuff like, his "imperfect" voice still sounds good on these songs though, etc....i think mabe yall underestimate the difficulty level of what he actually pulled off here... just cause hes making it look so damn effortless dont nessesarily mean he aint actually workin his ass off.....hes working alright, believe that. Hopping some big ass vocal gaps and nailing em... Laying down smooth ass runs, keeping perfectly in time with some crazy ass time signitures & making it look like childs play...So yeah, he pretty much pulled off some impressive ass shit... (At least in the humble opinion of a fellow vocalist who really paid close attention to this performance) and his smile and demeanor are soo beautiful. Completely up lifting and utterly contageous! 😀
Truer words have never been spoken, the vocal flexibility and control he had here, mind you he did the hook and adlibs, when most vocalist are using tracks behind them.
Darrius Best Thank you sir. 🙏 At least you, & apparently 88 other folks in here still have good taste and ears to recognize real talent when they hear it.👌 And imma say it again, (cause i just cant say it enough 😁) I LOVE this mans smile! & His swaggg....he got swag for days. 💖💖💖
Talk that talk! Sounds crisp and funky and is a true talent not to be diminished or regulated to "imperfect vocals." This is real music and everything you said is pure FACTS! THANK YOU.

Daniel Kozlowski Is he high? 😂
Keira Lewis might be yea! I know I would be
I want to hang out with him, he seems like a great guy to burn one with and put on some records.
The10000lbGorilla absolutely!
+The10000lbGorilla DRAM is just naturally high, he technically doesn't need weed. He just smokes it for the social aspect.
His voice, his personality, and his hat are
pure. bliss.

Almost 7 years later and still one of my favorite tiny desks of all time. Criminally underrated performance!
DRAM feels familiar, old school. Its in his voice, the runs and notes he chooses. That's really been in him since a kid, you can tell. It's in him it ain't on him. AND he's happy af lol cheezing & shit lol which is always good to see...hell I'm happy now lol.
Pre Smith 90% of his improvisations are in the major pentatonic scale, which is usually associated with church music
"D.R.A.M. always was grounded in a diverse range of music. 'I stayed with
my grandparents a lot growing up and they went to church all the time,'
he says. 'I sang on the choir. My mom had a little gospel group when I
was growing up too. But outside of church, I was just on soul music
heavy. People like Al Green, or those songs that you automatically know

sounds and dances like Chance The Rapper, that's why
I get what you mean, he reminds me of those 80's RNB singers before music was totally over produced. As if they were walking a tight rope and a misstep in any direction would make there voice awful but also made their sound unique.
not at all totally different style
U can tell he is comfortable in his skin.... That's what i love the most about him.
Took him about a minute into the first song, and I appreciate that.

Does. Real. Ass. Music.
yes
Mark Scott Define "real" in your terms. I don't think that "real" music = women, money, and drug-like subject matters.
This is what D.R.A.M stands for.
You sound like a hater.
Asequii Your right, real music can't be about roughly half of the human population.
tfw the smile is contagious as fuuuuuuuuck
Taimir Gore yes I was just smiling like wtf
man that guy is pure fire!
I was literally about to type that lol.
that smile that loves all of you!

Wow I knew he was underrated but damn

But DRAM
The craziest part is that Shelley is even more underrated now than he was back when he went by D.R.A.M. But his music is still fire asfffff
Watching this with huge smile on my face. This guy is a breath of fresh air. This is what life's all about
My face hurts from smiling so wide for 20 minutes straight

Check out the origin of the sample! "ray charles hallelujah 1955" search it on here. It's Ray Charles killing it back in the day, super impressive
seeing an artist kill an acoustic performance always raises my respect for them, and this Tiny Desk Concert has done just that.
I gained a lot of respect for D.R.AM. after watching this. He is an artist he can actually sing too got soul

D.R.A.M. killed Cash Machine, but him and the band the pianist completely DESTROYED "SWEET V.A. BREEZE" 😩👏👏👏👏
The pianist is the composer too. Lol.
