Inquisition would have benefitted so much from an alienage origin! Real shame they didn't include it, would have made way more sense and provided a better more impactful background for the whole elf ruling a chantry organisation thing.
This would be a huge plus for the game. It's one of the things that made origins so repayable. More choice= better dragon age game! Also being able to play a warden again sounds amazing..
Personally, I‘d love the idea of faction based origin stories, I‘ve been thinking about that for a while actually. I just hope that there are more than just a few. I just really hope it is possible to have a Templar background. I‘ve wanted to play as for a long time and it really bothered me that it has been a specialization since DA:O but never has any impact. Even in Inquisition you pretty much just get a few extra lines with Cullen and the typical party comments. It just feels weird because it should have a massive impact, but never really has one. Especially with the state of the world after Inquisition a Templar Origin would absolutely be my thing.
I loved the depth that origin stories gave our OCs ☺️ I just feel so stressed about choosing an origin as I feel I don’t know enough about each of them!
I don't think it's Executors that we're seeing, I think it's the new faction introduced in The Missing comics. Veil jumpers. The broken up landscape behind them would make more sense, and it would explain the cool magical bow if they managed to harness the power from the twisting of Arlathan forest.
I've been hoping forever that they'd bring back origin stories to DA! In my opinion, origin stories were THE best feature of DA:O and something I hadn't seen in any other game. Hoping you're right about this!
I agree with the evidence but still not trying to get my hopes up, that being said I think there is a couple of ways they could handle factions. 1. Playable origin stories- like Origins. 2. Common start, yet different faction- similar to Inquisition yet more. I'm thinking we'll be a representative of a faction but start the game in the same place each time. This however does make it possible for us when/ if we 'go home' as it were to have unique dialogue and perspectives when dealing with our faction. Maybe unique abilities, different persuasion options, and potential to showcase our knowledge about our factions history and characters. 3. Faction specializations- that we will have the ability to join these factions later in the story and be provided with unique skills. As for the factions I'm thinking based on marketing, leaks, and what is happening in the comics we we'll have access to 1 of 5 factions. Grey Warden, Antivan Crow, Mourn Watch, lord of fortune l, and veil jumper. First character of mine likely will be a Crow.
I have an Antivan Crow character already created solely for this purpose but I know if there's a origin story that's more dalish related I'll go with that first. I'm thrilled if the origin stories return!

I've been waiting so long for another big game to do it the way Origins did. If they are doing the same thing for Dreadwolf then I would be very happy.
origins and faction based stories just adds so much lore to dragon age that is a shame that in DAI there isn't any, at least in DA2 we got the prologue scenes. I really hope that bioware brings it back in the next game
Hey! hi! do you think we will be able to see companions of DA2 in Dreadwolf such as Tallis, Isabela, Hawke, Fenris, Aveline? that game was my favourite considering companions overall..... plus to add the most inevitable return of Dorian of Inquisition.
So I one thing I've noticed reading Dragon Age: The Missing is I think each issue is actually hinting to this thought. They named a elf-y Faction in the most recent one, i think they are the magic arrow looking faction in the promo art. Without too many spoilers, The first two issues are the Grey Wardens and the Antivan Crows respectfully and speaks on the "Veil Jumpers" and the last one seems to be, based on the cover, the tevinter spies whos name I have fully forgotten. I know this doesn't mean anything set in stone but the format of showcasing these factions in the first three has me thinking they will probably use these 4 as the player character options and the lords of fortune, the executors, and the mortalitasi may be "companion factions" we may have to bring into the fold ala dragon age one as well. even if we can't choose ALL the options right off the bat (they could add them as DLC if they wanted to be spicy) i think this is a good spread of political interest while tying all these factions to the titular character himself.
Immortals of Aveum trailer just dropped. Some similarities - open world. Both action combat. Single player. High fantasy setting with magic. Both EA! Some combat elements looked extemely similar. Like rocks popping out of the ground as earth magic. Seen that in DA4 development vids. Is EA preparing in case they have to or want to shutter BIOWARE? Were elements of DA4 sacrificed or cannabilized in developing Immortals? To my eyes they could be sequels in same IP. Just find it strange for EA to support TWO games that look so similar. Thoughts?
Kal Sharok dwarf would be my first choice, but executors would be great too. I really hope they give us origins stories. Hey bioware ... id pay for an origins extension pack after the first couple of play throughs .... JUST SAYIN [Edit ... kal Sharon roflmao]
The three origins I would most love to play as, include an Altus from a noble family from Tevinter, someone who was part of the Antivan Crows, or a runaway slave from some high Tevinter house. Honorable mention to some sort of Qunari...I would love to experience more of that culture...either what it means to live under the Qun, or to have recently left it.
Origin stories are my #1 favorite part of dragon age games, even more than the characters and the tactics options. Hope there’s more origin stories in this game than the first one.
Faction based origin stories and race based interactions would be great. The race exclusive options in inq were lazy (I understand why, still annoying tho). I’m reaaaaally hoping that they take the best of all three games and give us something spectacular. To me, that’s origin backgrounds, DA2 animations and lots of things/spaces to explore and discover.
The origins I liked the most in DA:O were the Human Noble. Either male/female, warrior/Rogue. It's fleshed out the cultural dynamic from The Stolen Throne and The Calling Books.
Id love for origin stories to return, and the factions they (seemingly) have available would work for all classes. So nothing (hopefully) will be race or class locked. Even if you just consider playing as a mage, playing as a tevinter mage in the secari would be very different than a mage in the antivan crows or gray wardens. It adds tons of customization. Add race ontop of that and its like we are free to choose who we want to be. DAO was great, but your origin was race and class locked with a little customization depending on what you chose.
I really wanted to play as the inquisitor again due to the tie in to inquisition and the solas romance, but I think origin stories would actually make up for this and get me excited to play a new character in DAD 🤞
I am so excited about the possibility of returning to the system of choosing backstories as it was in DAO... I have so many thoughts about how I would like to see the hero of the new game, but the very idea that it will be possible to introduce a huge diverse company of my characters into the headcanon makes me incredibly happy😄
Definitely going to start with Antivan Crow. I love rogues/assassins/thieves, etc so I am SO HYPED to get to start off with them. I hope that the origin stuff is real, everything seems to be hinting at it. I'm going to be so disappointed if we don't get to pick an origin.
I had a bit of a think about this. True, the origin stories gave you an insight into the various cultures in Thedas, which was good. However, they all railroaded you into joining the Wardens. I know, no game without that. Most of the players of Dreadwolf are going to have already played the rest, so everyone will have an understanding of all the cultures already. You also can't use what you know of the culture you are starting in to follow what the norm would be. Flemeth told Merrill that the people are too willing to bend knee, so in the city elf origin, you just can't go along with Vaughan.
I was kind of hoping they would be going a different route with the main story. The whole "order of great heroes sets out to save the world" has been done to death by bioware. Maybe something like absolution. Where they are mercenaries/thieves performing heists for personal objectives. But they get caught up in something bigger going on in the world. I think Dragon Age 2 tried something like this, but the execution was a little underwelming. Origin stories would be good though. It really got me emotionally invested in my warden early on.
Do you think one faction will be on the side of Fen'harel? That would give me an interesting playthrough especially when playing my River Song Lavellan game world state. I can't wait for the next video about the game. I am enjoying them.
Give the faction aspect of Dreadwolf, I wonder if Rook’s origin story will start out in one of the chosen factions after character customization, no matter if he/she is an Elf, Human, Dwarf or Qunari.
Also bring back combo spells like fire and oil or Greece i liked tht making new spells when you combine them... And they can do it with Rogue to different jugs. Etc
I would love to be a antivian crow! I think the lore and mystery of it would be thrilling! I was trying to not get overly excited for this game... but I'm can't help it! I'm so excited!!
I’d be completely okay if the main character is a silent protagonist if BioWare goes back to their origins(literally) I still think Dragon age Origins is one of the best games BioWare created.
Im hoping we get a legendary edition for the series after Da:d comes out maybe add more oomf to the origins and make them longer? Also expand dialogue and relationships with characters I.e mentioning hof is related to hawke if they’re a mage. (Sorry if its explained in codex entries in da:2 havent found them all)
Having the crows is an interesting thought especially based in choices made with Zevran in DAO ro DA2.. Doubly so if you romanced him and lived as the warden.
Not knowing enough about the new potential factions, right now I'm leaning toward Antivan Crow. Mostly because I really want to see Zevran again (and he better be in this game, damnit!)
I love different faction origin stories but this means I would want to avoid others sharing their playthroughs because I would want to experience it all for myself first! lol
Do I want the Origin stories (as in DA: Origins) to have a comeback? Yes! Do I think we'll get them? No. As far as I am willing to think that they'll do any sort of character origin, I think they'll do it like they did in the Mass Effect games. Get asked some questions in the character editor that may or may not have some influence on dialogue and quest choices and you're done. This is as far as I am willing to believe they go. After all these years of bullshittery by EA, I don't really believe in them enough anymore.
Origin Stories-- yes, please. #1 SLAVE OF TEVINTER, a Magocracy in Minrathous, would probably encounter Fenris, know firsthand the hideous practices of Magisters, and either be set free or break free to rise to hero status. ---------- #2 GREY WARDEN - WEISSHAUPT A Griffin-rider (maybe not immediately, but later) who knows about The Warden and/or The Cure progress, and is embroiled in war with dragons, darkspawn, 2-Blight possibilities, The Architect rumors, plus all other chaos, including Solas, as they rise in the world to hero status. ----------- #3 NON-MAGICAL 'SLEEPER' of Tevinter rises as hero ----------- #4 EXECUTOR -- shadowy group 'across the sea' beyond Amaranthine and Boercis Oceans (downward triangle with wavy lines symbol) - Solas deemed 'dangerous' - rises to become hero ------------- #5 FORTUNE HUNTER local talent - rises in renown ---------- #6 MORTALITASI WORKER - assistant - knows necromancy practices and rises up to help the world when needed. --------- #7 AGENT OF FEN'HAREL - learns more of his 'god' and the idol and decides to help the current world instead of helping Solas. ------------- #8 DWARF of Ancient Thaig and/or Titan -- Sha-Brytol or other type, they rise to the need of this world to regain and imprison the lyrium idol, fight 2 possible Blights, Solas, and any who get in the way. Possibly led by Valta (The Descent). Possibly teams with Executors. .. just some thoughts ....
Immortals of Aveum trailer just dropped! From EA. Dragon Age 4… EA. Open world. High Fantasy. Has magic. All action combat. Done with alpha. Immortals look so familiar and similar it’s disturbing. Will this cannibalize? And did it cannabalize any assets, resources? Is EA planning shuttering BioWare to support this new studio? Those rocks popping out of the ground look damn similar to some Dragon Age dev videos I’ve seen.
so we can choice the faction like we did in dragon age origin like we can start off with like being a grey warden by they going deep dive in the faction you choice to and more factions like in my playthrough inquistion, I banish so I can totally see you play a either a new recruit or one of the grey warden who was banish and you get see the aftermath of it or you a templar or a mage, there so many possibilities and hopeful the dispatch agents be deep drive to
I love you ideas and videos! But, you speed talk through them!! Lol I lose my train if thought when listening! One idea pops into place and your onto something else before I can jot down my thought and I lose that train of thought. 😂
After seeing the leaked footage I'll go with gray Warden. I really hope origin storys return as my hawks and Inquisitors all felt the same but my Wardens all felt different. I just hope they actually make a difference cyberpunk 2077 has a origin path but except for a few different lines here and there there was no difference between them I want the origins to mean something.
Are they bringing back the choice between dalish and city elf? Or Hey, how about ancient elf like the sentinels? 1 dalisj elf grey warden 2 city elf antivan crow 3 ancient elf executor 4 Qunarj lord of fortune? All Rogues As Always Of Course
I had thought that I'd make my DAD character a warrior since I don't have a warrior in my canon worldstate yet. But bro.... if i can be an Antivan Crow imma be an Antivan Crow. So another elf rogue I guess 😭😭😭
One thing I would like to have in the Origins stories in Dreadwolf would to have the option to play as any race and any class. We know that most or all of these groups are mixed races and utilize Mages, Warriors & Rogues and I personally never enjoyed how I was locked out of doing certain origins based on my class. Like why can't I play as a mage and have a Dalish Elf Backstory, or be an adopted Dwarf in a Human Noble Family? Now obviously there would still need to be limitations, like if you're playing as a Dwarf you can only play as a Warrior or Rogue and you will be treated differently depending on what race you are. Like say you pick the Executors and play as a Qunari Mage the overall story is the same within this origin BUT you're treated differently because of the Qunari's actions even though you were never part of the Qun. On top of that you're a mage which makes everyone treatment of you even more uneasy. But if play as a human Warrior you're treated a bit better by those who were mistrustful of you as a Qunari Mage. Thus this would encourage different playthroughs of the same faction because depending on your class and race you'll get a slightly different story. As a result even if we were to only have access to four factions we would still have access to many different origins based on our race and class.
So with the gameplay more like God of War, I've been thinking how will you be able to play as a mage, or will we able to be a mage at all? I'll be a bit disappointed if there is no mage gameplay because I usually main a mage.
Can an origin story be that you are the former leader of the inquisition. I really don't like that a new hero will be the one to stop solas instead of the inquisitior. It's like if the 5th harry potter book was about a new character and the new character ends up stopping big V, instead of harry. Solas is the inquisitiors archenemy. So it should be the inquisitiors problem to stop.
I don't want to be a killjoy but as much as I love the origin stories in DAO, I see little chance that they will return in the same way that they did in that game. You have to keep in mind that for each new origin they would have to account for several resources in the matters of writing, for the dialogues, cutscenes, and its influence latter into the game; voice acting, more lines and characters would also imply more costs and more time recording, and programming, both for creating more assests and more animations. And sure, they did it in the past and it's still a much-loved feature for fans. The problem is that while we fans live in the illusion that we are the largest group of gamers, we are only a small percentage of the total audience that is going to experience the game. The average gamer will only experience the game once and will not bother to see the other origins, so all the resources invested in creating them will go to waste. Now that games are cheaper and more accessible, replayability is no longer considered as important a feature as it used to be. Even in DAO, most players tried noble human and that was it. There was a similar issue in Baldur's Gate 3, where they gave a lot of possibilities for character creation and different races, but people just went for the most basic human protagonist. At the time Bioware created the origins they were mostly unaware of player habits and this was a fun experiment. Now that they know better, I don't think they see it as a worthy investment. The character creator will remain, as well as various options for races, classes, and maybe even background. But waiting for a large variety different introduction/tutorial quests of the same scale as in DAO is a little bit unrealistic. I could be wrong, of course, but putting too much hope in this is setting yourself up for disappointment.
Maybe, but why appeal to people who don't really care about the games too much? Even if the majority of people won't play as anything other than human, does that really justify not putting it in? Maybe business wise, but if we were thinking that way, should we also lose the ability to play as a girl? Most people were playing Bioware RPGs as their own gender and with Mass Effect that was mostly guys playing it. Yet we still kept femshep. Either way, I don't really see a better place for the resources to go when dedicated fans of the series want a feature to return. Most people won't care but, most people wouldn't care about Dragon Age getting a fourth game either.
I'm not sure how they will make it make sense. If you are a Crow are you locked in to only playing a rogue? Grey Wardens have warriors rogues and mages. I definitely want to play a Grey Warden Mage. What is up tho with that archer with a bow that shoots magical arrows? Hybrid specs? Or just a weird bow? I can see Grey Wardens having three various warrior specs to chose from. The Magic Faction having three different types of mages one of them that dude with the magic bow. Crows having access to various types of rogues. Tallis type of a rogue could be a specialization all in it's self.
The one with the weird bow is a Veil Jumper they show up in The Missing #3 and Tevinter Nights (but their members don't tell that they are). They seem to have all classes and a group made up o Dalish elves and friends of the Dalish from other races working together to fight back against the magical weirdness in Arlathan forest.
I want to be able to play as an elven slave who is saved by the ancient elves or even solas himself and joining the cause because of such a monumental event that freed the character it would show us both the tevinter daily life as an elven slave and even give us motivation to join and help solas and even learning valuable skills and information of the dread wolfs factions goals ect. Or even playing as an antivan crow and seeing Zev again 😂 I’d LOVE for dragon age to give us an origins feature it’d add so much more to the new country we’d be playing in and even learning all new info as our characters!
I can't wait too explore the world and characters of Dragon age again especially the Dark Roads history hopefully and Solas motivations becuase he was one of my favorite characters
I obviously agree that having origins would be awesome, but at this point, considering all the trouble they've had, I'd rather they make a quality game without origins than the usual EA bug-filled mess or the recycled, empty maps of DA2. Please, Bioware team, you can drop the origins. Just, just make sure what you put out is actually good quality. It doesn't have to be huge, just not garbage. Please.
I certainly hope that origin stories come back from DAO in dreadwolf. I also liked the abilities provided to go cross grain (mage/tank), (rogue/warrior) etc. If that came back it would be outstanding.
Anything other than a greyspawn. They were derpy and feckless AF in DAI. I'd rather play as Orsino. The greyspawn should be disbanded and replaced by a new order that don't abandon their duty after releasing proto-blight darkspawn magisters that almost destroyed the world.

I really hope this comes back it was so immersive and so lovely to have background for story potential too
Id love for origin stories to return, and the factions they (seemingly) have available would work for all classes.
I hope they have a Qun Origin as my current draft is for a Qun Loyal Qunari
I really wanted to play as the inquisitor again due to the tie in to inquisition and the solas romance, but I think origin stories would actually make up for this and get me excited to play a new character in DAD 🤞
I am so excited about the possibility of returning to the system of choosing backstories as it was in DAO... I have so many thoughts about how I would like to see the hero of the new game, but the very idea that it will be possible to introduce a huge diverse company of my characters into the headcanon makes me incredibly happy😄
According to the 3rd issue of "the missing", those we used to call "executers" seem to be the "veil jumpers".
PLEASE!!!! THAT'S ALL WE ASKED! But for the next two years, "we're in the endgame now".
I think it would be really cool for an original you can start as a slave
Definitely going to start with Antivan Crow. I love rogues/assassins/thieves, etc so I am SO HYPED to get to start off with them. I hope that the origin stuff is real, everything seems to be hinting at it. I'm going to be so disappointed if we don't get to pick an origin.
I wonder if DA Keep choices will have a more significant impact to the story compared to inquisition.
If the backgrounds return, it is the initial kick to make it a masterpiece like origins. And I would be honored to be a Gray Warden again.
I wouldn't mind having an Inquisition faction! Even if they aren't playable being able to continue that story would be awesome!
Do you think one faction will be on the side of Fen'harel? That would give me an interesting playthrough especially when playing my River Song Lavellan game world state. I can't wait for the next video about the game. I am enjoying them.
I would adore being able to play a Nevarran character.
Give the faction aspect of Dreadwolf, I wonder if Rook’s origin story will start out in one of the chosen factions after character customization, no matter if he/she is an Elf, Human, Dwarf or Qunari.
I would LOVE to be an elf orphan who was raised by the Antivan Crows
Also bring back combo spells like fire and oil or Greece i liked tht making new spells when you combine them... And they can do it with Rogue to different jugs. Etc
I would love to be a antivian crow! I think the lore and mystery of it would be thrilling! I was trying to not get overly excited for this game... but I'm can't help it! I'm so excited!!
I wish they would release a legendary edition “MassEffect”. Before the new edition.
If Dragon Age 4 needs to bring back characters from 1 2 3 games, it would be good
If Origin stories came back, I wonder how the Qunari origin would play out.
(Sorry if its explained in codex entries in da:2 havent found them all)
I will be so excited if these faction based origin stories are true!! I would love to make a antivan crow character
Having the crows is an interesting thought especially based in choices made with Zevran in DAO ro DA2.. Doubly so if you romanced him and lived as the warden.
This all sounds good, but can my Origin be the Maker? Lol! I kid!
They may be targeting a Dragon Age day release this year for 2023 if all goes well at Bioware. But knowing Bioware...I'd expect Spring 2024...
Not knowing enough about the new potential factions, right now I'm leaning toward Antivan Crow. Mostly because I really want to see Zevran again (and he better be in this game, damnit!)
The thing I'm a bit worried about is that for example the Crow origin would only make sense for human and elven rogues. Very specific
----------
#2 GREY WARDEN - WEISSHAUPT A Griffin-rider (maybe not immediately, but later) who knows about The Warden and/or The Cure progress, and is embroiled in war with dragons, darkspawn, 2-Blight possibilities, The Architect rumors, plus all other chaos, including Solas, as they rise in the world to hero status.
-----------
#3 NON-MAGICAL 'SLEEPER' of Tevinter rises as hero
-----------
#4 EXECUTOR -- shadowy group 'across the sea' beyond Amaranthine and Boercis Oceans (downward triangle with wavy lines symbol) - Solas deemed 'dangerous' - rises to become hero
-------------
#5 FORTUNE HUNTER local talent - rises in renown
----------
#6 MORTALITASI WORKER - assistant - knows necromancy practices and rises up to help the world when needed.
---------
#7 AGENT OF FEN'HAREL - learns more of his 'god' and the idol and decides to help the current world instead of helping Solas.
-------------
#8 DWARF of Ancient Thaig and/or Titan -- Sha-Brytol or other type, they rise to the need of this world to regain and imprison the lyrium idol, fight 2 possible Blights, Solas, and any who get in the way. Possibly led by Valta (The Descent). Possibly teams with Executors.
.. just some thoughts ....
I don't think sn executor makes much sense. We know literally nothing about them. I can see a companion or something though.
I would love to join the antevan crows
I just want to see some flipping dwarfs dammit
Immortals of Aveum trailer just dropped! From EA. Dragon Age 4… EA. Open world. High Fantasy. Has magic. All action combat. Done with alpha. Immortals look so familiar and similar it’s disturbing. Will this cannibalize? And did it cannabalize any assets, resources? Is EA planning shuttering BioWare to support this new studio? Those rocks popping out of the ground look damn similar to some Dragon Age dev videos I’ve seen.
so we can choice the faction like we did in dragon age origin like we can start off with like being a grey warden by they going deep dive in the faction you choice to and more factions like in my playthrough inquistion, I banish so I can totally see you play a either a new recruit or one of the grey warden who was banish and you get see the aftermath of it or you a templar or a mage, there so many possibilities and hopeful the dispatch agents be deep drive to
I hope they give us new game + in the game
Hope we get them back. 3 was such a step back from 1&2. Truly for me in many ways I’ve been chasing the feeling of game 1 .
Totally agree with this.
I love you ideas and videos! But, you speed talk through them!! Lol I lose my train if thought when listening! One idea pops into place and your onto something else before I can jot down my thought and I lose that train of thought. 😂
HYPED TO LISTEN TO YOU🎉
I can't wait my excitement is at a fever pitch 😩
I want to play as an antivian crow/ mage elf
Still, I just want to play as my Inquisitor again
After seeing the leaked footage I'll go with gray Warden.
I really hope origin storys return as my hawks and Inquisitors all felt the same but my Wardens all felt different.
I just hope they actually make a difference cyberpunk 2077 has a origin path but except for a few different lines here and there there was no difference between them I want the origins to mean something.
Are they bringing back the choice between dalish and city elf? Or Hey, how about ancient elf like the sentinels?
1 dalisj elf grey warden
2 city elf antivan crow
3 ancient elf executor
4 Qunarj lord of fortune?
All Rogues As Always Of Course
Gosh... I really hope this is true.
The knight in the thumbnail, where is he from?? 😮
I want gameplay !!!
I had thought that I'd make my DAD character a warrior since I don't have a warrior in my canon worldstate yet. But bro.... if i can be an Antivan Crow imma be an Antivan Crow. So another elf rogue I guess 😭😭😭
if the new main story of the dragon age is longer than assassin's creed Valhalla. I'm really scared.
All I sincerely want is for this game to be released already lol
I just hope my grey warden and morrigan reunite after a decade not seeing them.
I have always had a soft spot for an apostate mage origin.
The origin feature will give the game a lot of replayability.
It won't happen, but I would really like to see it return
Is it coming near future?
I'll be a bit disappointed if there is no
mage gameplay because I usually main a mage.
FOR FRELDEN FOR THE GREY WARDENS
It would certainly be nice if they added a first person view.
Mortalitasi
Grey Wardens
Can an origin story be that you are the former leader of the inquisition.
I really don't like that a new hero will be the one to stop solas instead of the inquisitior.
It's like if the 5th harry potter book was about a new character and the new character ends up stopping big V, instead of harry.
Solas is the inquisitiors archenemy. So it should be the inquisitiors problem to stop.
This sounds great. I am looking forward to a good game. Most of the big ones that have come out have been crap
Pls don’t get my hopes up lmao
Can I choose red jenny as an origin? That is already far more attractive than qunari.
If I remember right, they aren't doing specific classes but are mixing them together (skill tree wise)
Pure speculation. There's nothing so far to support this theory.
Honestly I just want oghren back or I’m gonna riot
