Jeep Wrangler JK vs YJ Off Road at Rausch Creek

- In early January 2012, I met up with a couple of guys with Jeep YJ Wranglers for a day of 4 wheeling at Rausch Creek Off Road Park in Tremont, PA. Although I was running the new JK with larger 35" tires, the front locker-equipped YJs proved quite agile on the rocks. Even though I thought it would be fun to make a "jk verses yj" video, we all agreed that both vehicle and driver ability were on par with each other. We all had a blast as we made it through the day safely and without too much drama. After all, a Jeep is a Jeep!

Thanks, I'm glad you like them!
Awesome video and music! Love my yj and love that royal blue one.
Awesome job on the video. Some of the best camerawork and editing I've seen in off-road videos on the tube. Subscribed!
Killer video, great job editing.
Thanks! Yes, I was at Topless for Tatas. I shot some video, so I'm planning to edit something together in the future. I'm on JKO and the "other" forum. I might join JK Freaks too sometime just for the heck of it. I'm thinking of going to the Quadratec tent sale this weekend and then RC the weekend after that. Maybe I'll see you at one of those events. Have fun out there!
Thanks! I'm running a 2.5" Teraflex coil lift with front lower and rear upper adustable flex arms. No lockers, just the factory trac-lok in the rear end, but I don't even notice it.
Haha, can't blame you. My skid plates take a beating every time. It just goes with the territory!
Those yjs beat the jks ass! Square lights for the win. Nice job though, good vid :)
Thank you
I drive through all that crap too! If one day I have to tear apart my differential to replace bearings and such, it will give me a good excuse to upgrade my axles and lockers!
the two are a monsters
nice jeep yjs i have a 1990 jeep yj 4.5 suspension lift , 5 speed manual with a 4.2
wow amazing video! i have a 89 yj with a 4.2 L6 5spd but its all stock with no lockers wpuldnt mind trying that terrian to see how well it holds. great video guys
I can't make the tent sale although I'd love to. But I will be at rausch with a few friends on the 14th! We'll be running blues and some blacks. If you'll be there on sunday maybe we can meet up. You're welcome to ride with us if you want.
Those are the factory half doors that came with my JK (I chose the half door option when I bought it in 2009)
I see that Islander around town sometimes, also I have seen it at PA Jeeps. I had an islander but just recently sold it I have a JK now. Need to wheel it I haven't gone out or done anything to it yet.
Jeeps are Jeeps they can all do it but I think the JK is best because it can fit bigger tires without a lift and has traction controll.
Sorry, I don't know what kind of rims they are, but there are tons of options out there. When I first started building my JK, I spent a lot time on various jeep forums researching builds, parts, etc. However, I strongly recommend you seek out a local club or attend public jeep/off road events so you can see firsthand what people other people are doing. Hope that helps!
Awesome video! I have a JK unlimited rubicon with a 2.5" lift and 35" MTR/K's and one of my wheeling partner has a lift YJ on 35" MTR/K's too. It's fun to compare jeeps when we wheel. I use my skids a LOT though with the long wheelbase of the unlimited. We wheel rausch a lot, maybe we'll see ya'll out sometime. Were you at the topless for tata's ride? I'm on jkfreaks and jkowners.
awesome video showing the "new and old" Jeep capabilities. The Jk had no locker? Also what lift di the JK have?
Very nice jeeps and very nice wheeling, what kind of rims are on the dark blue YJ? I'm in the process of fixing up my YJ, have any tips? I'm in Delaware btw
Great video. What size engine is in the YJ
Where did you pick up the half doors for the jk
Lol! Thank you for your analysis. I'm curious how/why you came to your conclusion concerning the "JK guy," and whether you really watched the video?
Why not?
Wow drop them air pressures guys and bald tires made this harder
It's all good, just curious
Yj had it, unless the slave valve pops. That was a bad design for the 93 at least, unless you got it external. It went out every 5K miles, my clutch would just lose it. Bad call for who ever came up with it. JK has a better design for sure.
