Just bought a yj and now I want to get an old cj like bam bam. I’ve seen quite a few videos with bam bam now and I was glad to find him concurring my hometown trails. I live in schuykill county about three miles away from Rausch creek
Keep your YJ, She still a beauty if dialed in right. And then, if you can, get yourself a Willys MB, that's what Bam Bam is. A CJ (Civilian Jeep) came later. Bam Bam (if I not mistaking) She is an MB 1943 WWII. I hope you enjoy Raush Creek my friend, it is off-road Heaven, I used to come there from Jersey. Take care.
Would love to know the jeep's set up. Guess it has low transfer case plus low diff gears and eaton diff lockers. Also the engine doesnt sound the original 4 bangers used by the military jeeps in ww2.
i remember hearing that when the rubicon was first founded, people would run it in their stock vehicles, and 30 inch tires sounded massive...these days people think you need 45 inchers and 5 inch lifts or you cant drive a dirt road. hats off to this video to show them all wrong.
A stock CJ2A has a crawl ratio of 37:1. “BAM BAM” has an SM465 truck transmission and Rockeater 3.6 gears in the transfer case for a crawl ratio of 107:1. The other flatty, “Wilson”, has an SM420 and a 63:1 ratio.
Wilson is 69:1 . . . 7.06 x 2.62 x 3.73 BamBam is noticeably slower in the rocks if you watch closely . . Wilson is jealous and is asking for 4.0:1 gears for its D300 xfer case. :-)
@@jeepfever5973: Thanks for the info! I have an FJ40, but it's crawl ratio is way too high (26:1). I appreciate ideas on how to get it lower. Sounds like the SM4XX transmissions are a good way to go.
Porque dejaron de contruirlos?Porque no perniten que renueven su construccion ?.Esactamente iguales y como eran en esa epoca ,sus capasidades son alusinantes.
BamBam rolled twice this past year. Having a full cage meant no real harm done. I have 2 rules when deciding on a trail to take 1) do not go if body damage is guaranteed, 2) do not go if there is risk to roll. If you notice, there is no video of my '2A on a couple of those hills that BamBam went up, in my opinion those were a little too close to the roll point for me :-)
Both are standard shift, but not stock transmissions. Both have a "granny low" gear. SM465 in BamBam, SM420 in other In most of those rock crawls, the idea is to put in lo-lo, let out the clutch and never touch it again, unless have to stop or reverse.
@@jeepfever5973 Ah much thanks for the info. Impressive driving skills. I was wondering why I didnt hear the rpms racing, the backward drift and never saw the left leg working the clutch so much. It had me guessing as I saw the stick shift but couldnt quite figure out what was changed.
Stock suspension, 225 Dauntless V6, front axle is nearly identical to BamBam, rear axle is similar (30 spline Dana44), but with TrueTrac. Gears are 3.73, so not geared as low as BamBam. SM420 trans, and stock Dana300 xfer gives 69:1 crawl ratio
@@scottr1921 I was not too clear on that . . I meant that the Dana 300 had its stock gears 2.62:1 (not any aftermarket gears). As you say this transfer case is not stock to a '46 (mine came from '80 CJ7)
They took it in with the intention of destroying it . . damaged in a roll . . they tried to blow the engine with multiple rev limit runs, but it survived until upside down. . . front wheel was destroyed dragging it out.
Watching a jeep with normal size tires have so much flex and tiptoe through the obstacles is so good
Listening to that Dauntless V6 in the 2a just purring like a kitten while climbing through the rocks was awesome!
Beautiful. I could watch this all day.
Wheelies are so short and narrow but that’s what makes them so capable. Great video!

Gotta love the old flat fenders, they just crawl over the gnarly stuff with no drama.
You guys made this look so easy.Hats off 👍🏻🇺🇸
Will7311 S well it’s got lockers
Well,oh my!
Cool video. Love the old flat fenders
Nicely done, gotta love old school with a few judicious mods.
Thats awesome yall let the TJ play! Nothing newer than TJs they still have the jeep hearatige in them.
Jeff sure has Bam Bam's spring rate dialed in well
Made it all look easy... nice talking to you both today at the great Willys picnic.. safe trip back home Jeff
cool Jeeps and cool video, love the engine sound with no music on the background! thanks for sharing
Nice content bros!!!
That looks fun. You and Ron really looked awesome. Thanks. Wish I was there with you.
That’s very awesome ❤
Especially that of "bam bam" 's jeep
Wow. Great rigs and skill.
Idk that I could risk my 43 like that on a few of those obstacles.
It’s like a RC crawler that someone can sit in.
That things like a little mountain goat, sweet
It is truly amazing a willys jeep is capable of
orange highlighter 03 you should see what old Suzuki samurai's can do.The don't build them like that anymore
I've watched a bunch of these videos. These Willys take a pounding. I wonder how (if) they shake rattle & roll with vibrations on the road.
It's crazy
Very nice cross montain
I'd take a old willys over a jk any day love the ol flat fenders

27:30 thats the second "CV" style shaft i have seen break this month... meanwhile... 190,000 on my stock U-joint axles...
Eso es una maravilla hecha realidad.
Nice Old School rigs
Muito excelente piloto o jipe também está bom.
good example that you don't need an a 100k rock crawler with a big block under that hood to have fun ( ONLY IN A JEEP )
You make it look easy
Good stuff guys I have a 55 willys pickup with a 226 and was wondering what Wilson's set up is all I know is sm420 ??
I'd really be interested in finding out what kind of gearing these rigs have. Did the flat fender Jeeps come geared this low?

Awesome I was wondering about the set up also I have a 55 willys pickup that I want to set up soon
Mountain Man depending on wheel base you can add an extra range box on your case for a "dual case". Very common in the toyota world.

Question for anyone....do these things ever roll? We have no roll bar, and sometimes I worry! What will it take to roll it sideways or backwards?
BamBam rolled twice this past year. Having a full cage meant no real harm done. I have 2 rules when deciding on a trail to take 1) do not go if body damage is guaranteed, 2) do not go if there is risk to roll.

these old flatties may not be much on the top end. but they sure are climbing son of a guns.
lilorbie lilorbie lockers help
i think that driver talent has a lot to do with it. my Dad,s first Jeep was a 1943 Willy,s. he only paid $400.00 for it. but that was 1972.
lilorbie lilorbie that’s cool and all but this has lockers.
I’m curious about tire pressures, used in this kind of off-roading.
stephen jackman BAM BAM is at 10 psi
@@jpetrowich
Is there a video or article anywhere showing the modifications that the guys you usually run with are running?
🙏please
Hello!, congrats!...like always! ...for what is this handle bar ( clutch or brake bike) on the shift selector?...thanks. greetings.
How tall are the tires on the old flatties
Are these coverted to automatics or are they still original standard shift willys? If converted what did ya switch too?

Proof that the only mod you really need for rock crawling is lockers!
...and skid plates : )
What set up is the second Jeep running. Is it similar to yours?

What happened to that grand Cherokee in the end of the video?! Holy smokes...

are the old jeeps using original engines and running gear.
Everything you want to know about BAM BAM can be found in this thread:
www.thecj2apage.com/forums/building-a-universal-modified_topic28473.html
it is not a stock willis. you swaped engine and transmission
What is flatfender
Nice!!!
that my next car jeep.....
amin
Do you have the 25 front ? If so what brand locker are you using??
Andy Molaski both of the “stockish” flattys have Dana 30 with Eaton Elocker. If you have a stock D25, you will have to use a Lock Rite
@@jpetrowich thank you for the info
Wow😯😯😯😯👏👏👏
