The film definitely adds dimensionality to being Asian American growing up in a suburban multicultural setting. Common Asian stereotypes of being math and science nerds are dispelled as the characters are developed realistically in the spaces of adolescent awkwardness and self discovery. The joys and pains of growing up are so well done in this first film of Sean Wang.
Oscar worthy movie esp for Joan its about time far too long the academy recognises her talent and subtle performance in this movie...Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress
The Oscar voting committee is 81% White and 67% men. I'm not against winning awards, but we don't need and we have never needed their approval on what is considered great when telling our story. Our life experiences and our community can and will determine what is great.
A lot of the mother, grandma, and children scenes are in Mandarin, but at the end of the day, this is a movie that speaks to the Chinese/Asian American experience, so I’m not surprised it has English too.
Don’t be like that. The typical person you’d call a “leftist” probably has a family that they love and cherish. Stop blaming people with differing beliefs that have barely any real political power and start blaming the ones actually in power who are making it financially more and more difficult to have a family.
Joan Chen absolutely deserves Best Supporting Actress.

Hoping Isaac Wang gets a nomination
Dìdi is probably the greatest coming-of-age story told since Richard Linklater's Boyhood.
Unfortunately i doubt it will nominated for many oscars consider how stacked this year is
@@ΓΕΏΡΓΙΟΣ-ι8ν I agree but it's still a great movie to rewatch.
@@davidfilmexpertOh right i will watch wherever is available
@@ΓΕΏΡΓΙΟΣ-ι8ν doesn’t look that stacked compared to past years
@@RodneyDollar you are right but i dont think didi is gonna gettin a lot tho
Joan Chen's wisdom and perspective on the evolving landscape for Asian-American artists in Hollywood is both insightful and motivating.
Saw it last week and saw it again yesterday easily one of the best films of the year hopefully it could get some love awards season hopefully
I really hope to see both Joan Chen and Izaac Wang get nominations. Both are irreplaceable pieces of this film, and they brought it to life so well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film!
It’s in my *Top 8* 😂💯🎬
Such insightful responses from all. I wish the interviewer validated Izaac’s response before moving on to Joan as it deserved a pause.
The next John Hughes

I do not remember people using AIm Chat by the time Facebook rolled around..
It seems really cool but i doubt it will pull a minari situation again
This. I’m sad about it though.
The one problem is that the movie isn’t in Chinese. Was hoping that it would be when I found out about it

Family. Appreciate it so much as in such a extreme leftist world, the concept of family is decaying. The family value should be reexamined
Wuttu Dominic Toretto
