I don't really like going to the movies and don't have much money now but will definitely be buying a ticket to see this. I'll also be purchasing it when it comes out digitally. Basically, I want to support us and our stories and the more good movies like this are out there, the more it does for positive AAPI representation and it makes us look good as well.
It's definitely about what age or age group you are in. Being 50 and a parent, I assume I would relate more to the parents' characters (having not seen any footage of it). I came of age in the 80s and 90s, so I related to shows like the "Wonder Years." As far as Asian movies go, "Better Luck Tomorrow" was definitely about my age group as it was based on the crime that happened in 1992, the year I graduated high school.
I watched the movie already and it was good. I definitely teared up a little on some parts that had to do with family dynamics because I found it relatable. Overall a good and relatable movie and would recommend others to watch it
Live in Fremont, CA. Many Mandarin speaking Chinese here. It’s the second dialect here at home besides Cantonese. My daughter prefers mandarin. I heard about the film being made here.
How did this movie score so high? I watched it in the theater on Saturday but I thought it sucked. I always support Asian films but I don’t get this one. It also made Asian character looked weak.
That’s the brain rot of this generation. You should work on your patience and attention span versus spazzing out because your attention have been shrunk to 15 seconds of dopamine kick.
That your issue. You have low attention span. The Fung brothers are one of the most articulate, honest and bold speakers out there and they always make great videos.
Oh no... not Hasan Minhaj. Any way, hows the acting? Was going to ask if the characters are likable but since it's getting good feedback I guest they are.
An Asian kid growing up in a household with his father absent isn't realistic, though. They should've made the kid Blasian. At least then it'd be much more believable. /s
Unrealistic? Hate to tell you but that was me growing up and I know plenty of Asians with absent fathers Also making them Blasian just because of the stereotype? Racist much
Better Luck Tomorrow was pretty awesome, so putting this one up in that category, Didi would be a must see. 🎬

Yesssss!! Love it when you talk about movies!!! Asian American cinema!!

The best Asian American film still today is a movie from the 90s called Yellow with the goat John Cho back in dem days. Respect Asian cinema 👊
So this is pretty much another “subtle asian trait” movie? Slow, retro, somewhat nostalgic, with an unfulfilling ending?
1 reason... It's my home town, my high school, I'm Taiwanese, and I'm my family's didi.

Watched the trailer. Gives me Napoleon dynamite vibes.
My coming of age story was Curse of the Golden Flower
If the movie doesnt address actual issues and how to solve em, idk what the value is..
This is the best asian american film for me.
I felt seen watching Joyride. Loved that movie
David, the father was in Taiwan. That’s what DiDi said in the movie.
Very high quality movie if you take it for what it is. Go see it!
Every show/movies with Asians always rates highly on rotten tomatoes

All these movies reach the same conclusion, assimilate more...there's no "wokeness" in it, and it should have it.
@@Drownedinbloodthat's the thing. That term's been run to the ground to the point that it's assimilated with negative connotations.
If you immigrate to another country, you should assimilate.
You got a point.
I saw the movie, had high hopes due to the trailer but after watching gave the movie C-
I loved it.
looks interesting!
I am definitely going to see this movie... but you guys take FOREVER to get to the point.. I find myself skipping thru your stuff...

@@henrytep8884This! I like hearing their commentaries and insights! You can’t capture that within 60s! Some people just need to develop patience.

If you want to watch something actually good. Watch season 2 of the terror.
Spoiler: he graduates and barely gets into Cal
I'm going to watch this film.when it's released in a theater near me on Aug 30th 😁😎😎😎😎
What about cheng can dunk or boogie
滴滴打车😂

Why do yu need to call it the best Asian American coming of age movie ever? Just call it the best coming of age movie ever.
Because the movie was basically about Asian Americans trying to fit in “mainstream” America.
Definitely not Crazy Rich Asians. Hate it.
Lol it's so much better than crazy rich Asians
I always like the movie called THE JOY LUCK CLUB Ming Na Wen is as always very beautiful
I always like the movie called Turning Red
@@hsuehhs1 Turning Red -- hmm ? I will need to check it out !
Chinese American they not popular 😮 wtf why are you serious for that 😮

I get that you're being sarcastic, but the father being out of town for work isn't exactly unheard of in some Asian households.
