Hope to keep in touch brother. Let’s get some minorities in those officer positions!

I am still trying to prove myself to myself everyday. Great video! Great story!
Man, I'm glad i got to hear this speech. Really puts life into perspective to understand no matter how hard someone tries to break you, you are the only one in control of your Destiny. Sleeping outside in your underwear for 5 fucking days? Mentally they went to the extreme to break you. I spent 2 years of literally every waking moment of my life trying to join the Army. 265 pounds, criminal record, traffic record, and at 29 years of age. I trained 7 days a week, went to MEPs more times than i can count, interview with a company commander and battalion commander, psychological evaluation, moral wavier, and starved myself and dehydrated myself for days and weeks at a time. Wavier went up to USAREC to a 1 star general in October 2016 and was disapproved. Than march 2017 i tried again with our new Commander and Chief. Enlisted as 11X 11X March 2017. Bitter sweet unfortunately I was medically Discharged and that followed up with kidney problems and ankle surgery. But, this moment right now I am Training to join by july. This speech allowed me to understand its not about the past or your failures, its about your preparation and your will to never quit on yourself.
Remarkable story. You should be a speaker at all inner city high schools, in order to inspire our Black youth to change their lives and be the best that they can be. I know people like you, smart, gifted athletically, and tough mentally. I still can't believe that you "played" with the instructors minds. Wasn't the training hard enough? Thumbs up and new subscriber. And I do remember seeing Buddy Young at his brief time with the Colts in Memorial Stadium.

I am thankful my son sent this to me. I have always felt that my son could have gone further N the marines he had so much potential to be his best. I am not saying this because I am his mom. I say this because of what I witness he had a curve in his spine he has proven to himself just how important his growth to himself as a man. People with titles in the jobs he worked and the military have looked at him because of his quirkiness he used to be a bookworm. He’s a wonderful writer, and he has a strong gutsy sense of life and people. N because of his communication skills some people have looked at him. It’s being arrogant when he’s not some people have been quick to pass judgment on him, and a lot of people have not been in his corner in a positive ways for him to be able to elevate up that ladder. Some of the people in the military will titles have put him in a position to train others into elevate them, but never heal. Can you imagine a disappointment as a parent when you know your child’s potential but he’s being used to elevate someone else, and the people who assigned the jobs to him, knew this And they fell short and a disappointment to our country for not utilizing all of the young man of color who is in the kitchen, cooking meals. And because of that, the Marines lost a lot of good men that they could have caught a strong niche within the black community of strong men serving in America, but I know people don’t wanna believe and understand that even Black people who have titles in above others they are the main ones who keep Men and women of color in a certain category S if only once you go up that category so watching this and looking at this young man I’m very proud of what he is saying, but I do know every military branch should have done better by the people who put their lives on the live to serve in America My son to me N others will always be A positive nature he is just a well-rounded individual who has had trials and mishaps but still he stands strong, and I have always felt that he has not gotten his do based on him being quiet and observant and a person of honor honest and humble and trustworthy as a young man of principle, and willing to talk up for people who voices are not hurt. Please don’t take the statement as if I’m putting my son on a pedestal. No he’s not on the pedestal. He had it since he made his mistakes but when I basically said that when you have a young man of color who joins the military? They are treated so poorly so mishandled when they come through the door with skills because of parents like me. You’re some of the toughest men on earth and willing to meet the challenge. My son is not called T.I.M.for nothing. He is incredible to me and his family and other. His sister called him TAZ.
This is a remarkable and inspirational story of overcoming difficult odds and unjustified bias. Thank you for sharing. They could have killed you with all the hazing and animus but you were prepared to die and you endured the ordeal
I enjoy your podcasts in general, but I was swiping past this episode because I just wasn’t overly interested in facing what you had to say about institutional racism in SOCOM, etc… I think I get it now. I was a non-swimmer before joining the USMC, so this hit home even though it was not level five training for me. This may be top ten episode for me now. Much respect. Thanks for sharing Jake.
Hey Jake. I really admire watching your videos, I like them. I just started watching your content. I’m currently training for SEALs. I’m 24 years old, just a basic average dude, nothing special, who really slacked a lot during high school, no college degree, just working full time doing front desk security. idk if it’s too late to train for NSW but it’s been a long life dream of mine to serve my country. I just took the initiative to take this path serious, started training this year, put in the hard work, reading a lot of books, basically doing everything that I should’ve done during my HS career. Is there a way I can get in contact with you and ask questions? Thanks Sir.
@@jakezweig hey bro, i know this sounds kind of dumb, but I've always looked up to you. I'm older now, but i always remembered you. Sometimes i get scared, but i push through life's obstacles. Thank you ...
Great insight. My son wants to be a Seal. Know there’s not many of our color that enter and pass. Hopefully with men like you that have blazed the way, things have gotten better culturally. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
What's it got to do with culture? Either you have the mindset or you don't. The physical training part is the easy part. The hard part is convincing yourself that all that hard training is worth what you want for yourself.
Jake Zweig hey Mr. Zweig i recently joined the Navy myself (ship for basic in 2 months) i joined so i can become a navy seal. My problem right now is keeping my training regimen disciplined and wanted to know if i can talk with you more on honing my training in through email or whatever sir.

So I am 18 as of now but I'm planning on joining the navy In 4-6 years. I injured my back from wrestling and jiujitsu so I have to take a while to recover my injury and eventually get into better shape. I am just now again starting to train but lightly for the next six months or so. I am skinny (5'11" 152) because of the cutting I had to do for wrestling but I was wondering what it would take to get you as a mentor in a few years?
Ever notice swim buddies are always the guy you fought with and now is your best friend. In bootcamp I got 300 8 counts with a puddle of sweat under me and marching party every night and were pissed i didn't sweat to stain my dungarees
Jake Zweig, yeah, man. The squadron I was attached to flew a lot of the platoons around on training missions back in the early ‘90’s. Mostly it was guys from ST5. From up in Fallon, NV; down in Niland, CA; up in Montana (that was a good one. Discovery channel was filming echo platoon SEAL Team 5 guys); Cobra Gold 1993 in Thailand was good. SEALs marked their van saying they were Navy Band. Funny.
The De-Con story- was the best- I was crying! "You got hotter!" They might of check you and found out you were a mutant of some sort! And the Frog Hill story is #2~. Your stories are EPIC! Did that instructor that you mentioned, try to fight you close to the end of BUDs training? It sounded like the powers that be- didn't want you to complete BUDs. But the stories and your experience, that's for sharing! Can you speak on how many black officers are in the Seal community now? still under 20?
Jake you may not remember me but can haven't forgotten you for the past 30 years. Back in 1992 you were at RTC Great Lakes and I was a 18 yo recruit. I, being a black inner city kid, could not swim and had a fear of water due to nearly drowning when I was very young. I took the swim test and failed probably four times before my encounter with you that day at the pool. I jumped in, tired as all hell, but you encouraged me and I kept going. I was barely able to meet the 3rd class swimmer requirements (literally the tip of my finger) and you had this look on your face like you were not very pleased and did not want to pass me. I hope you saw that I was giving it all I had that day and in turn gave me the thumbs up. I've seen you once about 20 years ago on TV but did not catch your name. Today this vid slid into my feed for no reason that I can think of. Thank you for your encouragement to never quit.
My brother you are a inspiration to all but especially to blacks. You break all stereotypes about us and you prove color is not a reason to doubt or judge a person. I've been listening to Jocko a lot and he was my favorite seal until I came across you. Keep up your good work and like the saying goes. The only easy day was yesterday. We need more like you stay blessed sir.

That is stated as a fact of life not a statement of victimhood. THIS is not a bad world we live in and there are a lot of us damn good people of all shapes, sizes, descriptions and colors in it. Be it in the military or in the world, It just that there are some knuckleheads who have a perspective on life that no legislation can change what is in their hearts and souls. Sometimes the best payback is not kicking someone else's ass, physically, but kicking their ass by being 400%[better] prepared and leaving them sitting in their quicksand of ignorance and being unprepared. Now I'm gonna retire my podium, lol. Thank you sir, and keep up the great work. E-7 USAR, Ret

@@jakezweig Due to covid my ship date was moved from may to last September. I hurt my achilles in Great Lakes and rerated to MA. I analysed what my weaknesses were and now I'm back to training. It was great chatting today on the phone Jake. Man hearing your stories man, really pumps me up to want to go after such a badass job. You’re a tough dude and I agree with these comments that say that racism and blatant torture like that should be investigated and they reprimanded.
I’m going to pursue that pilot slot though. Hope to keep in touch brother. Let’s get some minorities in those officer positions!

Great video! I was Goggins’ indoc roommate in 235. I listen to many of these stories but think it would be way more fun to tell them. I was not fully prepared and it upsets me at times. For anybody going to be BUD/S take advantage of this knowledge and prep in all areas physically. It is a life long purgatory if you cheat yourself on your dreams.

This speech allowed me to understand its not about the past or your failures, its about your preparation and your will to never quit on yourself.
thank Boooom
Remarkable story. You should be a speaker at all inner city high schools, in order to inspire our Black youth to change their lives and be the best that they can be. I know people like you, smart, gifted athletically, and tough mentally. I still can't believe that you "played" with the instructors minds. Wasn't the training hard enough? Thumbs up and new subscriber. And I do remember seeing Buddy Young at his brief time with the Colts in Memorial Stadium.
Set it up im in to talk to them all. LIFE IS short so I thought the instructors should pay

Wonderful powerful comment sorry about your son!!! Hopefully he is killing it

I enjoy your podcasts in general, but I was swiping past this episode because I just wasn’t overly interested in facing what you had to say about institutional racism in SOCOM, etc… I think I get it now. Thanks Sir.

Great insight. My son wants to be a Seal. Know there’s not many of our color that enter and pass. Hopefully with men like you that have blazed the way, things have gotten better culturally. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
Look into David goggins, and Remi adaleke!

What's it got to do with culture? Either you have the mindset or you don't. The physical training part is the easy part. The hard part is convincing yourself that all that hard training is worth what you want for yourself.
How old is he? email me jake.zweig@gmail.com

Jake Zweig, yeah, man. The squadron I was attached to flew a lot of the platoons around on training missions back in the early ‘90’s. Mostly it was guys from ST5. From up in Fallon, NV; down in Niland, CA; up in Montana (that was a good one. Discovery channel was filming echo platoon SEAL Team 5 guys); Cobra Gold 1993 in Thailand was good.

This is the very top of America's spear. The best of the best. The most elite. Tier One. The special operations they conduct are so fucking dangerous and high priority that the training HAS to be as close as possible to the real thing. These guys have millions of dollars worth of training and education invested in them by the government. They NEED to be ready for their operations. It's no joke.
