My best friend went to the Academy and his 2 roommates his first 2 years became SEAL officers. I visited him a couple times and TRIED working out with those dudes once. I’ve never met anyone anywhere else in my life or career as focused and freakish as those dudes. None of them looked crazy physically but all of them were good at literally everything. Running sub 8:30 mile and a halves, strong af, could do calisthenics all day, and on top of that had zero ego and were super chill. I realized how physically and mentally weak i was. It’s not for people with a pipe dream or a romanticized view of the military, it’s for straight up animals that are obsessed.
Agreed…forget the physical work the fact they go thru hell week on 4 hours of sleep!!! That’s insane I’ve stayed up for 27 hours straight and by the end I was starting to feel paranoid like I was having a heart attack n shit and I had to just curl up in bed and try to sleep I felt CRAZZZY so props to them lol it gives me anxiety thinking about having to go through some of the stuff they do

Him wanting to go work for NASA or work in medicine makes being a pilot a great option in my humble civilian opinion.Most of us average Joe’s would love to go fly but that option just isn’t available to a lot of us between grades and security clearance issues. Appreciate all your guidance Jake.
Also it sounds like maybe joining the Marine Corps reserve or a National Guard infantry unit for 3 years would help him scratch that itch to be a trigger puller. It would be less “elite” but he would get tougher while he pursues his masters, 3 years really isn’t that long in the grand scheme of things and he can go to the field once a month fuck it why not

My Seal officer package is in , supposed to hear back at the end of the month , I think 8 months is enough for this guy IF he trains everyday . Running . Swimming , lifting , calisthenics , no partying and eats healthy .

From what you just heard, can you imagine this guy being in charge of a bunch of 17-19 year olds whose sole desires in life are to fuck shit up, get in fights, get drunk and party, bang foreign chicks (usually while drunk), and then hope to shoot people on deployments? As an infantry officer, my guess is you’re probably having to show up to help get a dude out of jail in the middle of the night, or showing up to a hospital where a dude either got messed up, or even tried to take his own life. That last one I have seen personally, as I was the one who brought the soldier to the freaking ER.

Not a bad idea. But you still need to get in 9min run and 9min swim shape to compete at Basic and OCS. Even for an infantry officer, this guy just didn’t seem to be in the headspace for that life. 🤷♂️

Wow! Definitely not the right fit for SF of any kind. I didn't hear what kind of degree path he was in, but a smart young man has plenty of options to serve in. Very, very few people in general can be SEALs, Rangers, Green Berets, Marine Recon, etc., folks just understand that and assess themselves as to what they would be suited to. It is admirable enought to volunteer to serve, be proud of that. And being a pilot or a doctor would be a great choice! It's good you tell these young folks the cold hard truth upfront, it may seem harsh, but it saves years chipping paint 🤣
