Still one of my favorites. Period. Personality, stage presence, and a great voice. Plus, he's not your typical contestant. What a refreshing change. Just saw him in concert a year and 1/2 ago. STILL a great performer.
Those early seasons of AI produced so many huge names, even if they didn't come first. Fuck, this is season had Taylor, Daughtry, Katharine Mcphee, Elliott Yamin... Jesus.
Can’t believe this was 17 years ago. I remember cheering for Taylor. He was so good. I also remember the old days when American Idol was worth watching.
I especially liked how Hicks treated the lyric "never been afraid of standing out" (look for it) and the addition of the Gospel choir. Simon vindicates himself declaring Hicks winner of season 5 before the show is actually over and Hicks exclaims a Mardi Gras "whoo!" and then it sounds like a barnyard complete with laughing chickens, all in good fun.
i love the song even prior to his performance... but after i watched this performance and basically after i heard the way he deliver the message of the song, i even more love the song!! Thanks be to Hicks!
i love his motion when he sang the last "do i make you prooooud" part - the skillful head shaking. it's very impressive and just fits into his soulful singing style. what a great performer!
I want to say a big thank you for your love❤️and support for me and my career🤓I am really very pleased that all of you have been around all these years of my career. I appreciate your support and warm comments God Bless you and stay safe
I just heard Taylor Hicks perform this very song during the National Memorial Day Parade on TV today and his voice has definitely matured and gotten better. Wow! He nailed the tune and had all the subtle nuances that make him uniquely Taylor Hicks!
I want to say a big thank you for your love❤️and support for me and my career🤓I am really very pleased that all of you have been around all these years of my career. I appreciate your support and warm comments God Bless you and stay safe
This is peak Bush administration content. The Cingular Wireless sponsorship. A soulful rendition of a unique hit, unheard in times before. The grimacing visage in the face of powerful swelling music. The repeated chanting of soul patrol, which was preceded two years earlier by another familiar chant: “four more years.” Note that this performance was the same year Pixar released CARS, another artifact of the era. I’m honestly disappointed that Mr. Hicks never made it big, but much like the time between March 2003 and January 2009, it’s better off left to the history books.
Lindy , you are and will always be the most amazing man I will ever meet. Thank you for the most wonderful 11 years of my life. RIP my love and always know, you do make me proud, proud to have been part of your life.
He may not have been the BEST singer that has been on AI , but you gotta give him credit .. he has stage presence from hell , and really knows how to get the audience into his music.. thats a MAJOR part of why he won :)
He has a charisma while he singing that's why he won. I remember when the time of his audition simon said that's he has no charisma and he's wrong with that. Taylor prove to simon that he could be the next American idol although Katharine,Elliot and Chris had the best vocals in this season. :)
but its not just about clear tones. He is clearly heavily inspired by Ray charles, who also bent the notes and almost mumbled the end of some lines. The presence not only lies in his physical performance, but also his soulful performance
He really sold that song. And he sang it well despite that not being exactly in his wheelhouse. He's a much better singer than people give him credit for. search youtube for him singing Bob Seger songs to see what he can really do.
Yes. I liked Bucky Covington, my brother liked Chris Daughtry, my sister liked Kelly Pickler and mom liked Taylor Hicks. Fast foward and im 19 watching re runs of that season
The reason it is the Best are the ff.: -Both the Semi Final Episodes and the Finale are #1 on ratings. The First and only season to do so. -Most number of Finalists to have at least a Gold Certification from RIAA on each of their Debut albums (4) -Most number of successful finalist in Hollywood whether it is acting or singing or musical. -First Edition to have High definition throught the entire season (Season 4's audition and hollywood rounds are still on standard definition, semi finals to finale are on high def)
It was easy to see that Taylor should be the winner, from his audition. I told all the family that night he was gonna win, and they told me I was crazy. They did give me credit when he was announced, though.
I know that you Don't know me very well We've barely met But I can surely tell No one will ever Love you like I do I like to feel The warm spot on your chair Sometimes I drool And usually I stare My precious one I saved that gum That you threw in the garbage You're the one I dream about But the only question with me now Is "Do I creep you out?" Everytime I shake your hand now Wanna stick your fingers in my mouth Do I creep you out? Call you every night and hang up Gonna carve your name in my leg In my leg, oh-oh! Somethin' I should ask about Can I sniff the pit-stains on your blouse? And do I creep you, Do I creep you out? (Your restraining order's out) (Still the only question with me now) Oh the only question (Is "Do I creep you out?") Is "Do I creep you out?" Know exactly where you live now Follow you from work right to your house Well, do I creep you out? Do I creep you out? [Cheering crowd]
Not many are doing arenas. Taylor never played arenas - it's not his bag. It's not a measure of success. What is tho, is that he has a lot under his belt to brag about - a successful run on Broadway, a headliner in Vegas, he's owns his own restaurant, his own record label, has a platinum album, has his own published memoir and concert DVD, among a million other accomplishments. He's the most diversified Idol winner.
Ryan didn't need to remind America that Simon passed on Taylor after his audition. The show kept emphasizing that after it happened. That's why Taylor won.
ok, i didn't no, i don't follow up w/concerts, etc., all i no is music vids (vh1/gac) and wut i hear on radio/future AI season performances and most of the other AI5 finalists i've heard on the radio...but i could be wrong abt him having radio time too, idk
dedicated to all of my inspiration in life..love ones, friends,family/relatives and to all who've been a part of my life..Thanks so much and i love you all...
ya every idol winner is diff/unique, we can't always hav rockers win so it's kinda good that daughtry didn't win, taylor's songs since he's been on the show are actually pretty good, it's too bad they didn't just play them on the radio or something b/c he could be more successful
Daughtry couldn't sell out an arena today if his life depended on it. Sorry. He's playing county fairs and small theaters and even those aren't selling. Taylor is selling out his nightly gigs in Vegas and is making quite a name for himself there. The buzz has been fantastic. Daughtry's record sales have been severely declining - he hasn't sold Gold on this last album. His star is fading whether you want to admit it or not. Taylor's, on the hand, is on an upward projectory.
Absolutely brilliant singer, solid, expressive and nails those notes - I loved this performance.
He's one the best singers I've ever heard. Great soulful, bluesy, expressive voice.
Still one of my favorites. Period. Personality, stage presence, and a great voice. Plus, he's not your typical contestant. What a refreshing change. Just saw him in concert a year and 1/2 ago. STILL a great performer.
❤
100% agree - one of the TRUE winners!
Best season of Idol, best winner, best coronation song. They didn't treat their winner right but Season 5 lives on. Never another like it.
Those early seasons of AI produced so many huge names, even if they didn't come first. Fuck, this is season had Taylor, Daughtry, Katharine Mcphee, Elliott Yamin... Jesus.
I love him!!!!!!!! So Fantastic! Great singer with an overflow of soul and passion!
this is the one and only time I danced with my dad at my wedding August 29th,2009. The marriage didn't last, but the memories did... SOULPATROL!!!!
Can't believe I have the privilege to hear such a great song performed by such a great voice!
Definitely a brilliant song choice for him and a great Idol winner’s single!
The pinnacle of American Idol.... the best season as far as touring revenue and ratings. Congrats Taylor Hicks, the best winner ever!!!
Can’t believe this was 17 years ago. I remember cheering for Taylor. He was so good. I also remember the old days when American Idol was worth watching.
I cannot stand watching it anymore. Taylor was one of the last years I watched it faithfully.
Dec2020: still think this is the best final song ever in AI...+ ❤️ Taylor Hicks too
I have always loved Taylor soulfulness.
So do I
SOUL PATROL !!!
I love this season. So unique, I love the soulfulness of Taylor Hicks!
Soul Patrol to this day💜
SIMON JUST SHOCKED ME! He hated on Taylor, but just proclaimed him the winner. AWESOME!
I especially liked how Hicks treated the lyric "never been afraid of standing out" (look for it) and the addition of the Gospel choir. Simon vindicates himself declaring Hicks winner of season 5 before the show is actually over and Hicks exclaims a Mardi Gras "whoo!" and then it sounds like a barnyard complete with laughing chickens, all in good fun.
from 2006 and now 2019 watching this i cant stop my tears fall down...and its my bday i hope someday i could make my parents proud of me.
They are proud of you. If you are giving your all, no need to make everyone see your worth, especially to your parents. They see it all. 😊
"Now I'm standing talllll......!" (zing! from the eyes)
i love the song even prior to his performance...
but after i watched this performance and basically after i heard the way he deliver the message of the song, i even more love the song!! Thanks be to Hicks!
i love his motion when he sang the last "do i make you prooooud" part - the skillful head shaking. it's very impressive and just fits into his soulful singing style. what a great performer!
I especially loved when he smiled at the camera at the beginning and how he put his hand on his heart. Amazing. GOD BLESS.
he has the incredible thing tobe a great perfomer ! the perfect pitch!
So underrated today! Hope Taylor will get a hit soon!

Dayum that was da bomb! You go Taylor!
I just heard Taylor Hicks perform this very song during the National Memorial Day Parade on TV today and his voice has definitely matured and gotten better. Wow! He nailed the tune and had all the subtle nuances that make him uniquely Taylor Hicks!

My song to my dead parents that i sorely miss.
Still gives me goosebumps to hear!
I miss the old american idol... With Simon, and paula
always luv tis song....evr n evr..lets appreciate human being...
If äKatharine has sung this song, she would be the winner!,,,,,,

ur d best American Idol!!! Im Proud of u!!
That owned the win at that point
simon didnt think he would make it in the auditons and look at him now
my son played this for his mother /son dance at his wedding ...out of tune or not ...his message is very powerful cudo's to taylor
Definitely the best season, best finale song, and beat winner for AI. I miss this kind of competition.
He hasn't faded at all - currently he's headlining an 8 week residency at Ballys Las Vegas this summer and working on a new CD! He's doing just great!
He may not have been the BEST singer that has been on AI , but you gotta give him credit .. he has stage presence from hell , and really knows how to get the audience into his music.. thats a MAJOR part of why he won :)
Honestly Daughtry and even Katherine McPhee were probably better pure singers, but absolutely no one could perform like Taylor could.
He has a charisma while he singing that's why he won. I remember when the time of his audition simon said that's he has no charisma and he's wrong with that. Taylor prove to simon that he could be the next American idol although Katharine,Elliot and Chris had the best vocals in this season. :)
That was one of the most exciting seasons in American Idol history! Taylor Hicks truly knew how to entertain! Not to mention he was adorable! ❤️
but its not just about clear tones. He is clearly heavily inspired by Ray charles, who also bent the notes and almost mumbled the end of some lines. The presence not only lies in his physical performance, but also his soulful performance

one of my favorite idol song. theme song of my life ☺
Give it up for the leader of the soul patrol!!
goosebumps all over! taylor da man!
The best season on American idol.
I agree!
Yes. I liked Bucky Covington, my brother liked Chris Daughtry, my sister liked Kelly Pickler and mom liked Taylor Hicks. Fast foward and im 19 watching re runs of that season
sboudreaux27 no. Those were all bad. Idol only started being good at season 4 with Carrie!
The reason it is the Best are the ff.:

I liked Ace 😊
He was not that strongest singer. I remember that Simon gave him a really hard time. But this song was always on my music list! It’s very good.
It was easy to see that Taylor should be the winner, from his audition. I told all the family that night he was gonna win, and they told me I was crazy. They did give me credit when he was announced, though.
Our graduation song in FLORENCIO UROT MEMORIAL NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL, CEBU CITY S.Y. 2008-2009 ❤️❤️❤️
I know that you
Don't know me very well
We've barely met
But I can surely tell
No one will ever
Love you like I do
I like to feel
The warm spot on your chair
Sometimes I drool
And usually I stare
My precious one
I saved that gum
That you threw in the garbage
You're the one I dream about
But the only question with me now
Is "Do I creep you out?"
Everytime I shake your hand now
Wanna stick your fingers in my mouth
Do I creep you out?
Call you every night and hang up
Gonna carve your name in my leg
In my leg, oh-oh!
Somethin' I should ask about
Can I sniff the pit-stains on your blouse?
And do I creep you,
Do I creep you out?
(Your restraining order's out)
(Still the only question with me now)
Oh the only question
(Is "Do I creep you out?")
Is "Do I creep you out?"
Know exactly where you live now
Follow you from work right to your house
Well, do I creep you out?
Do I creep you out?
[Cheering crowd]
Bruh
Destinee R This is a Weird Al song, look it up!
I love the Weird Al parody of this ("Do I Creep You Out?")
He did it better
I think we're all here for that.
Called this guy the winner on Day 1
#soulpatrol
I never understood the judges' problem with the song, everyone I know absolutely loves it.
i love this man.. im very much happy he won th AI.

This is my 8th grade graduation song. I'm so gonna cry when we sing this. C/O 2007 STA
This is my graduation song alot people cried
love this song
Ahh... throwback to the (bad) ol Cingular days lol
Ryan didn't need to remind America that Simon passed on Taylor after his audition. The show kept emphasizing that after it happened. That's why Taylor won.
lol he knew he had this at the .44 mark the smile gave him away.
this one deserves a standing ovation..unlike P2......
i love this song!
Love you, Taylor.
Awesome!
America voted for him and then didn't buy his CD. Guesse they didn't love him enough to have to pay to listen to him like they did Daugtry.
Planning to create a music lyric of this song 😊
President Elect Joe Biden : Do I make you Proud boyz? XD
Soul Patrol til I fuckin' die!! - John Oliver '17
We're gonna perform this song for our Graduation night. :D
i ove this song..t his is our graduation song..
This is the song that wee song when i was in grade six
ok, i didn't no, i don't follow up w/concerts, etc., all i no is music vids (vh1/gac) and wut i hear on radio/future AI season performances and most of the other AI5 finalists i've heard on the radio...but i could be wrong abt him having radio time too, idk

yeah my graduation song!
i like this song
it's only beginning....
This is a better song than Mcphee's My Destiny for sure.
Daughtry couldn't sell out an arena today if his life depended on it. Sorry. He's playing county fairs and small theaters and even those aren't selling. brilliant!
i have yo sing this at my promotion!!
I miss the AI of Seasons 4 and 5.
I am not one who watched Idol but I was hoping he would make it big.
