    Those outtakes got me 😂
Man, this is so right on the money. I’m learning this stuff first hand right now and it’s all so relatable. Moved to Nashville a year ago, started working on records quicker than I expected and I’ve experienced all of these things. My ear has gotten so much sharper, my workflow has had to get faster, you can’t be open 24/7 and at some point you’ve gotta shut it down and stop taking texts and phone calls. AND I think the biggest one that rings the most true for me is knowledge vs. experience. The growth I’ve seen this year has come from doing, not reading. And many times I read about how they made great records I love, but when I apply the same things… they just don’t come out the same way and I don’t always love the results… so I’ve learned you have to just do it. Read and learn things, sure, but at the end of the day… trust your gut and use your ears. Crank out songs and with each one you learn.

Definitely prepare for not hearing music the same way again, lol. There’s records and songs I used to love that are hard to listen to now because I don’t love how they sound. 😐
Vocal is over-tuned (or not tuned,) compression is too slammed, eq is too bright, drums are too busy, bass is wimpy, etc… could be anything. 😂

You are so right! I have been at this for 44 years as a pro. I have mastered 1-4 pretty much but 5 I fail at miserably LoL!

What do you do to set the boundaries with the artists who all need things 24/7? I’ve got guys wanting me in the studio til 4/5 AM with them or people rescheduling not honoring my cancellation policy. Makes me feel awful tbh.

It’s hard because it can be an all encompassing job. I think you have to set yourself up with the type of clients who respect time boundaries witches easier said than done, especially if you are struggling to find clients. But there are definitely different genres in parts of music where I feel like this is more doable than others. For example, Nashville is much more of a 10 to 6 town and LA is much more of a 2 PM till middle of the night town. It’s a hard struggle regardless. But you’re not alone in it! Seth
