  • People go to college, and then go to high school, right? But what if you want to pursue music? And we're talking about commercial music here, not a classical program. What are the pros and cons of college? Who does it make sense for, and who would be better off skipping college altogether? X O'Connor got a college degree, and Seth Mosley didn't. In this video, they'll discuss which path makes the most sense for you.

Love this video! The one thing I would add is the value of building a network. I graduated with a music degree, did something else for 10 years, then reconnected with two musician friends from college, and thanks to those two connections I was able to jump right into the music industry. By just over three years later, I had a six-figure income in music. So wherever you get your best musician network is a great place to be - and in my case, it was in college. (I also refined several of my music skills in college (music theory, orchestration, etc) that I use every day in the studio as a pop producer - I agree 100% with your recommendation to take courses and invest in your learning.)

Awesome video guys! I'm a Worship Leader and Song Writer and I'm currently attending the University of Mobile with a Major in Worship Leadership and a minor in Production Technology. I can agree with absolutely everything you guys were talking about. I always second guess the decisions I make, however going to school is 100% the will of God for my life. But like you guys said I know it's different for everyone. There's definitely advantages and disadvantages for both, but the most important thing is to let God guide your footsteps!!!

So basically you have to know someone or know someone that knows someone. I've been hearing this for a while. The thing is that's next to impossible if you don't actually know how to do anything and no one knows you. People aren't going to pick a random person or household to work for them. We would be talking about someone who makes their work public in whichever way and had some kind of following by a skill set made and learned/self-taught by various resources.
