Very nice, I've watched you restore that beaten down machine to a thing of beauty and it just warms my heart :-). But yeah, if I were you, I'd replace that motherboard sooner or later. There's a 200MHz CPU in there and I wouldn't rest until I'd get 200MHz actual reported speed, dammit! :-D
Thanks man. Not only that but I want to swap out that SB Live for an Awe64 that I bought for the project. Until I sort out this issue then I can't use the ISA slots either. I did track down a Dell branded board but in spite of being really well packed by the seller it was DOA. So now I'm just keeping an eye on the Bay to see if another VS440FX comes up. In the meantime I've started work on the other machine that I picked up from the same seller
the pentium pro processor is the last version used in the US military to perform simple text commands for real professionals like the movie Mission Impossible that's why the quality is good
Can you try different jumpers for the multiplier? Maybe the docs are incorrect. Worth trying. I feel it is odd that the board works fine just locked at 2x. Both 60/66MHz FSB seem to work ok!
Have tried lots of different settings. There's only one jumper concerned with multiplier and neither position seems to have any affect on the multiplier used by the BIOS, so either there's a broken track and the BIOS is reading open circuit, or the BIOS just isn't applying the setting dictated by the jumper
@@TechMadeEasyUK thanks for the info! Also, cool retro build, I've watched this clip a few times now and boy if feels nostalgic to have one of them old PCs.
I'd love your guidance on that. These look like polymer electrolytic caps which (with my limited understanding) shouldn't experience as many issues, but I'm by no means and expert
@@TechMadeEasyUK Hummm, if you have soldering skills and do end up replacing the motherboard. It might be worth re capping it. That way if you damage the motherboard it's not your primary one. Unfortunately with some of these caps, they can look fine but have high resistance
@@TechMadeEasyUK It depends on the rating of the caps, as in the MF on the sides will indicate the specs required. Depending on how many are on the board, you could shot gun it and replace them as caps are cheap, especially in packs.

Frustrating. Pentium Pro motherboards tend to get hot. I have one that finally just died. No post. Looking at it, there is nothing wrong. Luckily, I have two other boards but like the first, they have mileage, and at some point they will fail as the pro chips tend to heat things up.
Thank you showing us unboxing this workstation-gem!
No problem 👍

Damn, I was surprised that the thermal paste looked like brand new.
I came here from RetroBytes. Pretty cool channel, earned a sub. :)
Guess I owe John a beer! Welcome
same!
You've definitely done wonders with that machine!
Thanks man!
I just found 512k one in my box of old pc parts. It's really good looking cpu.
the pentium pro processor is the last version used in the US military to perform simple text commands for real professionals like the movie Mission Impossible that's why the quality is good
I remember building a ton of servers with the P Pro 200, both retail boxed and on trays.
It's an awesome chip, I love it
@@TechMadeEasyUK back in the day, it was a fantastic CPU.
Very nice. The pentium pros are my favorite. It’s a shame they are being sold and destroyed for their gold
pentium 1, pentium pro, pentium 3 katmai, pentium 4 willamette, pentium 4 northwood, intel core 2 duo E4300, intel core 2 quad q6600, intel core 2 quad qx6700, i7 920, i7 980X

I wonder what's the name of that screensaver that you used there, kinda looks cool
At the beginning? It’s the one from the “inside my computer” theme built into windows 98

Wow❤️ ur vids, keep going!
Thanks man
Hi, can you tell me from which shop in New Delhi did you got it from?
the PC was bought from OLX. The new CPU was ordered from eBay
In terms of processing speed how many gigaflops does the pentium pro 200 mhz run at?
To the nearest gigaflop: 0 😁
I have a ~200 year old barn. I checked and there was no barn find Pentium Pro inside. What am I doing wrong?
Is your barn in New Delhi, India?
@@TechMadeEasyUK No. Is that a hard requirement?
Yep, that’s your problem right there
Good nice work
Thanks!
Awesome vid!
Thanks!
I wonder if you have capacitors with a high ESR that's affecting the roms and controllers?
I'd love your guidance on that. These look like polymer electrolytic caps which (with my limited understanding) shouldn't experience as many issues, but I'm by no means and expert

Soldering is no issue, what sort of resistance should I be seeing on caps like these? Might be worth testing across a few and seeing how they appear

Yes, I lived there until recently

One of your jumber seems to be cracked so maybe it doesn't short the necessary pins
Good suggestion, but no
How much did you pay for the processor and where did you get it from?
Ebay. I paid a lot more than was reasonable!
@@TechMadeEasyUK Was going to say. Found one for 189 usd on ebay
@@laplays6916 I paid less than that, but not much! Could have gotten one without the box, manual (and sticker) for much less
This processor is 25 years ago.
Yeah 🙂
*But can it run half life?*
That's a bloody good question, I need to know
cool!
Well I think so!
I have the same system board and a 200mhz cpu installed, ill check my settings and jumpers to see if i can offer any advice. Watch this space
Hi Mark, thanks for the support, but the issue turned out to be the motherboard, take a look at my channel for the full saga!

Tell me about it, I've been searching for months for replacement boards, one turned up DOA, the others are just way too expensive

New Dehli.. that's why the scammers from india work so slow 🤣
