I know this comment is already 3 years old, but if I remember correctly, one of the reasons why they had a hard time recording this was because they asked Lights to sing in a style she wasn't familiar with. This song was a perfect ending to the concept album.
I had to travel all the way to Canada from the UK to see this.....I am not sure that they have ever played it any other time......that's why I wanted to share so everyone could share my experience......

I went through a phase where I stopped listening to silverstein and I don't care to say why I started again. I just know that they have impacted so many lives with their great music (I think it's great). I hope I get to see them perform this live someday...
I went to their Philly concert in the beginning of 2019 and it was the best concert i have ever been too!!! They sound better live than in the studio. So worth the money. Stop making excuses and go see them, you will not regret it i promise. Hopefully if you haven't gone when you wrote this comment 6 years ago im here to tell you WHY HAVEN"T YOU GONE YET!!!! LOL
Lyrics aside, I love the melody and I think it's cute it's a duo as well. The song has an amazing build and I like how near the middle the girl had the spotlight whilst he chimed in. Then at the end the melody and lyrics are so depressing.... 'Battle fought and lost' 'not about the cause' 'never about love'. Haters can say what they want. I personally think it's beautiful. So what if someone has been there or done that.

This looks like the El Mocambo. I remember they played 4 nights in a row there and played each album fully through on separate nights. If this is it I feel so damn old...I was there that night and it does not feel like 11 years. Man where does the time go 😭
@tmilewski so THAT'S WHY! cuz when i bought it, i wondered why they didnt include live versions of "you're all i have", or "broken stars" or even "a shipwreck in the sand" from their 4th night, which contained shipwreck songs. but one day, i hope they actually release a FULL live album with bonus tracks of other songs they played.... especially with "you're all i have"
I love the lyrics with the exception of two things. One: they are kind of simple and text book (which is okay, but..). Two: I don't like how the lyrics contradict each other. "I knew you could never love me" and then later on "do you love me?" "Yes I love you".
I like Lights in "The End" but i did not like her at the owl city concert. She was part of his songs and she was the opening act for owl city..Not a big fan :/

Interesting to hear Shane say this song was a pain in the ass to record. It's one of my favourite songs they've ever done for sure.
