That's what IP67 does to devices. Think about it from the manufacturer's point of view. It would be a mess for the manufacturer to try and prove that the consumer has opened the device (if it were as the S4) and thus made it no longer pass the IP67 standard when the consumer falsely tries to get it fixed in warranty service. This way it's much easier amongst other reasons for the swap.
As a phone repairer i dont agree with the score of 5/10. It should be like 3/10 or less. Getting the screen (which is the most expensive part) off the frame is very difficult to do without busting the lcd. Imagine everytime u gotta replace a charge port you have to take the screen out. You are at risk of breaking a $250 part to try to fix a $5 part. Good luck with that people.
Don't forget iFixit is very close to Apple things, even if an iPhone is more difficult to repair is going to receive a betetr score, don't sweat it, the opening guide is great even though the review is biased
They probably made it that way due to the fact you need to use heat to take off the display and be extremely careful as not to crack the LCD in the process. Not to mention, there is a rubber gasket around the display that is not reusable - so when you put everything back together the phone isn't anywhere near as water resistant as it previously was.
Happy Fox Actually Liquid Crystal Display and Organic Light-Emitting Diod (OLED) - the AM in AMOLED stands only for Active Matrix - they're completely different technologies. While LCD displays don't emit light themselves, thus making it necessary to have a backlight on at all times, OLED and AMOLED displays have tiny Organic Light-Emitting Diodes that produce their own light avoiding the need of a back light. This is the reason why when you see a black picture on an AMOLED or OLED screen it looks as though it were turned off (its pixels are simply not emitting light) and when you see a black picture on a LCD display is doesn't look as deep, it looks even grayish. Therefore many people talk about true blacks on AMOLED displays.
@Gwen I am in love with you. I loved iFixit too but on 1st April when I got that email with the subject line "We have some good news" I was in so much anger, I mean how can iFixit even joke about something like that. :P Well jokes aside! The best thing about iFixit is the quote "Amateurs can change the world" somewhere on the about page, I can't remember where.
Kkkkk aer you serious. what about starting from the back? If you just need to replace a antenna you start from the back change the antenna close it and are good to go right?
iphone rocks had it for 3 years fell hunder of times no crack or anything just got my second samsung s5 because first one was stolen while applyng screen protector and getting rid of bubble the damn screen cracked and doesn't work ffs
They missed the point of having difficulties disassembling the Galaxy S5.
IP67 - Water & Dust Resistant....
One thing the S5 is water resistant and that is why it was made to be adhesive and harder to repair or take apart.
Looks like one of the only OEM who had an easily reparable phone has made it more difficult now.

no mention of the finger print scanner ?

And you repairs a gs5 the first day it came out... I think not
Great! Always happy to see U guys in action:) Now it's time for the new HTC One :)
The battery is indeed easier to change, but there is only 6 months warranty on the battery. With the built-in batteries, there are 2-year warranty.
I disagree with the score. It's too low for a phone with replaceable battery and modular internal architecture.

Spinal2111,
it has no LCD, it is a AMOLED display.
Liquid Crystal Displays, LCD is inside the AMOLED, moron

Not one mention of the IP67 rating?
Was waiting for this :)
Cant you do a teardown on Sony-phones like Sony Xperia Z1 compact or Z2
@Gwen I am in love with you.

do the nokia 3310 teardown ... or there is no tool strong enough to take it apart? :D
Battery is very easy to replace making the repairability score 10/10 where 10 is the easiest to repair and 1 the hardest.
You can teardown the Galaxy Note 4 ? PLEASEEE!!!
5?
Way too low for a modular component and removable battery
Its only problem is the screen.
and s3 , s4 now s5 got the same problem no thx screen on this phones are expensive thats the problem
sup with samsung gear review?
They have a separate video for gear and gear fit now.
Why didn't they take it apart from the back? There's like 50 screws there...
Are we in 2016 yet
do you have info on galaxy core prime
That's a low score considering you can actually swap out the battery in the S5 unlike any modern smartphone today.
when the screen is put back on will I need to add some adhesive I need to change the back housing as I dropped my phone
I'll wait for the note 4
LG g2 please

hey, do you thing its possible to buy a S5 replacement camera and put it into the S4? because they look the same to me
It's not just about the camera piece, it's also quite a bit about the software. I doubt the S5 camera would work as good on the S4.
Sorry the API wouldn't match plus it is icocell and different sizes
i dont know hw iFixts has given 5 its difficult always with samsung to remove d front panel
Do the samsung mega
iphone rocks had it for 3 years fell hunder of times no crack or anything
just got my second samsung s5 because first one was stolen while applyng screen protector and getting rid of bubble the damn screen cracked and doesn't work ffs
