@@SonsOfLiberty1775 That first happened in 1864, which was at the behest of a minister who thought it was a good idea. But that doesn't mean it was an intention of the founding fathers. 'In god we trust' eventually became ubiquitous in the 1950s to draw a contrast with the Soviet Union and "godless communism-" again, by the act of politicians who didn't exactly believe in the separation of church and state. I won't afford Christians the privilege of being referred to as faithful as long as their behaviors and actions are blatantly blasphemous according to their own scripture and gospel. Many American Christians have become defined by what they're against, not what they're for. This has taken over large swathes of US churches. Unless American Christianity stops eating itself from within and morphing into some kind of false bastardization of Christianity, it will go extinct.

Trump validated their fears and promised only he could fix them. He justified their hate and told them it was okay to hate because he hated too. He lied to them and they believed because it was what they wanted to be true. They sacrifice the actual principles of Christianity in an effort not to be wrong. Being wrong is bad, sinful and unworthy. And then there is the peer pressure not to question the leadership and the congregation as a whole. Being rebuked or shunned is hard when you are part of a group.
How can you lie to someone that believes the message? It’s who they are. Hardcore extreme racists. The bible validated their beliefs and the American system solidifies that the good old USA is a nasty disgusting racist country.
This guy is saying EXACTLY what I said in 2016. They never needed Trump to share their beliefs. They only needed him to fight for their beliefs, even if it means fighting immorally and illegally.
Someone should remind these Evangelicals that Jesus said, “love your neighbor.” Trump says one of the following: “Lock up your neighbor, sue your neighbor or destroy your neighbor.” Do you hear the difference??
Not in these MSNBC comment sections - no. All I read in these comments is hate, hate, deep seated bile, and more hate. Jesus continued "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you" I suppose it's good for everyone to lose Christianity. Then Hate can flourish without guilt tempering it.
Where is the room for non-Evangelical Christians in the American Evangelical vision? By the way, "Love your neighbor as yourself" and "love the stranger" are originally in the Torah, Leviticus 19. Jesus didn't invent these sayings.@@wewhofly
@@johnbrattan9341So it means you are not a democracy. One person one vote.Backwater states are no more important than all the others.Your electoral college is non democratic. This shows that your republican party cannot win without it as they have no policies.
I grew up in the Assembly of God (AG) Church..an evangelical, fundamentalist denomination. Went to a Christian High School and an AG college. I had relatives & friends who were pastors and missionaries. Still do. Following graduate school, as I embarked upon a career, I put my spiritual and financial support behind my church and friends and relatives who became missionaries with the AG Church. I mention all of this so you understand my investment and dedication. However, sometime after 2016, I felt compelled to leave the Evangelical Church as a whole because of it's embracing of Donald Trump. A person who is more UN-like Christ of any president in my lifetime; and I'm 64. This was heartbreaking. I was filled with joy and even a bit of relief when Robert Van Plaat of The Family Leader spoke up, a little, about Trump's character and is not endorsing him for president in 2024. However...IT WASN'T ENOUGH! When you compare Trump to Jesus and you compare him to Satan who is he most like? It ain't the Jesus I've spent my life trying to know and be like. Their needs to be a much stronger and detailed rebuke by evangelical leaders and pastors of Donald Trump's ethics, morals, behaviors, words, and complete incompetence in relation to skills needed to execute the duties of a US president. Now...before it's too late. I look at it two ways, either Satan has used Trump to completely fool and manipulate the Christians of this country...or God just ran out of locusts. I know, I know, it's probably neither, but I can't help think God has looked disappointingly at the USA, and the deep corruption that has grown in this country has led him to decide we need to be taken down and he had just the man to do it. The all important Christian characteristic of spiritual discernment has been a collective failure among Christians of the the United States. It is seen in the lifting up and the glorifying of this spiritually dead human being by God's own Church. We need to go in a completely different direction, with the wisdom, love and compassion of Christ. These qualities need to be manifested in our church leaders and church leaders need to put their support behind a presidential candidate with such qualities. At least as close to these qualities as we can get; not as far AWAY from them as we can get (ala Donald Trump), which isn't easy. At the very least we need the kind of man who can look in the proverbial mirror and shine the light of awareness on his own faults and mistakes and own them. Trump is utterly incapable of doing this. I told my brother, who was supporting Trump, when Trump got elected in 2016 that he will destroy the Republican party because I know very well what someone with a dangerous degree of clinical narcissism can do to relationships, and with the significant personality disorders that Trump exhibits, it would be destructive to our country. It turned out even worse than I ever imagined. My hope is that more and more evangelicals, both leaders and laymen, will speak loudly about the destructive nature of Donald Trump and our need to move on from him. God's flock has lost its way and only wise leaders of God's house can get us back on the path of wisdom and discernment with a clear and bold message about a man who is leading this flock off of a cliff. In spite of no longer being a member of an evangelical organization, I am praying for their courage and leadership every single day.
Exodus 32. 7 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt. 8 They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a Trump. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’
@@billdurkee8824 I appreciate that...I think I had just watched yet another speech or exerpts of a speech by Trump and felt the need to vent 😁. Peace to you as well
I agree with you, although atheist. The compassion seems gone from the evangelical right in the US, as they have changed from accepting Trump as a means to an end, into what? Their "retribution"??!? Not very Christian, right? When church leaders preach politics and demonize people with different opinions, there isn't much love thy neighbour!
If you are religious, you do not ask questions. They are the perfect sheep for the grifters to exploit. Does not matter if your bulldoze over all ten commandments.
In the Church I attended it was considered a sin to question the pastor. Whatever he said to the congregation is right as if God only spoke through him. In dismay I'd look around at everyone and think how it was crazy. And how the preacher was utterly and absolutely wrong. And I was only 10 years old!
@selah71 Omg! I wish you could have attended the church of my childhood. The pastor of our church wasn't invited to some of the annual events because he answered questions posed by children and adults. Shame on them for treating you like that! A pastor's/preacher's words are not perfect, and definitely NOT ironclad law.
I'm not a Bible scholar, but I know he's right. As a Christian, I've been trying to understand what I see happening around me. All I could see was "Christians" who seem to have forgotten who they are.
I am also a fellow Christian and feel rather puzzled and disgusted by the Neo-conservatives. But, I do believe that the majority of Christians are people like us, that are truly following the first Socialist, loving, forgiving, life giving Jesus Christ.
There are many Christians that conflate white supremacy with white Christianity with American nationalism. This is their true Trinity. Their entire identity is built on these three strands.
They never knew who they were. Because they were and are not Christians. They grew up thinking that they were Christians by birth rite. By being born in America, going to church on Easter and maybe Christmas Eve, wearing a cross and having a dusty Bible in the house, they had a free pass to Heaven. They speak and act in ignorance. They have turned millions away from Christ, in the name of Christ. Their church leaders are none better. Speaking with "authority" by virtue of a degree or certificate in blasphemy to enrich themselves. We can't fix it, they don't see anything to fix, only Christ WILL fix it in His time.
I think we need to get over the idea that if someone is a Christian, they are supposed to be perfect. It doesn't work like that. A Church is not a showplace for Saints. It's a hospital for sinners. And like with everything else in life we are all different and we progress at our own speed. As we learn correct gospel principles we can adopt them into our own lives and thereby "progress in the gospel". It's often a step-by-step procedure.
it is extremists, terrorists thinking. They are right always whatever happens, they feel strong when they shout together. Misguided, simple minded people's behaviour.
100% disrespectful. They have no class. And that guy new the the pastor since he was a little boy. I'm catholic and can't imagine disputing anything with anyone while they are grieving a loved one, especially at a funeral.
What we have to understand is that racism is a very powerful and deceitful emotion, it blinds people to rational, logical thought. Though many of these Trump supporters will claim not to be racist, the root cause of blindly following their leader is in deep down racist attitudes and the attempt to eliminate the Obama legacy from the annuals of history. Trump has tapped into this hatred by rallying around the common thread of hate.
I agree, tis well said and on point 😊. However, racism is not an emotion, just saying.... Racism is a despicable trait taught and learned In ignorance. Unlearned in tolerance and diversity
This is what’s not emphasized enough. Majority of YT Americans have never been in a position where they couldn’t simply force their will on the direction of the country. The last time it happened we had a Civil War. They rarely have to actually trust and believe in America the way other races do.

Do "true" Christians still have the neighborhood men stone their lazy sons to death as god commands in Deuteronomy 21? If not, aren't they violating God's command? Since I never hear about these stonings in the media, or any of the other horrific punishments God commands in the book of violence written about him, they likely are not happening. Leading me to believe there are no "true" Christians anymore...thanks to secular laws.
Here in Alabama families have been divided over Donald Trump; as in not speaking to each other, not seeing each other over the Holidays, and not being there for each other in an hour of need. Church can no longer impose morality upon its members if Donald Trump is their chosen one.
It appears that you have no knowledge of the Christian gospel. And it's obvious that folks have went way overboard with the animosity toward other Americans that happen to disagree with them. Many of us are so narcissistic that we cannot fathom ever being wrong about anything. But I have some sad news. All opinions are subject to being wrong. If they weren't subject to being wrong they would be facts and not opinions. It's my opinion that Trump is one of the best things to happen in this country in a long time but I go by how well our presidents serve this country.

The craziest part of this, there's more to suggest Trump will lead all these people off a cliff. Morally, financially, as a society, and yet there they are. Stars in their eyes picturing the same cardboard halo over his fat orange face.
Because if they take their eyes off of him for ten minutes and put them on their own religious beliefs they'd realize just how ridiculous they really are.
Much respect to Mr. Alberta. He's clearly researched and prayed about this dilemma. Not only has he shown courage and even-handedness with this subject, he's also stayed steadfast and proud of his own faith. Whether it's your church, your political affiliation, or your workplace-- just because you're a member, doesn't mean you automatically have to believe and defend all teachings, actions or policies.
That’s why I stopped going to church and praise the lord at home. Jesus was a poor man who love everyone that includes immigrants he didn’t care if someone had “papers”. He fed the hungry not called them lazy and he would give the cover on his back to a poor homeless not outlaw them being on the street.

Jesus Christ, himself, the one they claim to follow said it this way, "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, unto God that which is God's." How can you not see that as the first call for separation of Church and State
And yet, not a single country has as much legal separation between the two as the U.S. does. It was the actions of a Dutch person that directly led to the "freedom of religion" in the 1st amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Not trolling but I am curious about why it is brave for a Christian to tell the truth? Thought it was a tenant of pretty much all Abrahamic religious sects.
@@jjohnson796 Truth-telling is a tenet of humanity as much as of religion. I think this guy's bravery is probably because he is an insider among evangelicals and it is far more difficult to face one's own family and tell unpopular truths than to confront the outside world.

As an Australian evangelical Christian, none of us would support Trump and it’s not even close. We would certainly align with more traditional, conservative views (even then a bit different to American sensibilities), but there’s conservative and there’s Trump. We see that Trump embodies zero Christian characteristics or ideals, we never worship politics or politicians *ever* and we can see him for the deeply ungodly person he is. From afar, it’s truly breathtaking and disheartening to see Trump’s support, especially amongst Christians over there. We can’t understand how so many in America can’t see what’s so blindingly obvious to us about him. Whatever your political views, Trump represents an ungodly, unbiblical, unrepentant and extremely dangerous threat to the United States. Never again Trump.
In Australia we had Scott Morrison who tried very hard to take us down the Trump route, all while running on his extremist religious views. Then we had Tony Abbott and John Howard who actively stood up for the horrendous immorality of Cardinal George Pell. Methinks we have dodged a bullet... for now.
American evangelicals are fully aware of Trump's flaws. They say their support of trump is a transactional agreement, in that he'll do their bidding for them.
Best news piece and explanation for the insanity surrounding Trump that I've seen. I think this pastor could teach a whole lot more people whose eyes have been closed to the nitwit Trump. They have been successful in making people believe that if they are Democrat, they have no values.

Not in these MSNBC comment sections - no. All I read in these comments is hate, hate, deep seated bile, and more hate. Jesus continued "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you"
I suppose it's good for everyone to lose Christianity. Then Hate can flourish without guilt tempering it.

Christians don't follow the 10 commandments, doctrinally.
In the Church I attended it was considered a sin to question the pastor. Whatever he said to the congregation is right as if God only spoke through him.
In dismay I'd look around at everyone and think how it was crazy. And how the preacher was utterly and absolutely wrong.
And I was only 10 years old!

Or taking the mask off and showing us who they were all along. They just had to wait for someone to embolden them enough to take off the mask.

This is the original motto on currency “Liberty: Parent of Science & Industry" In 1793, when the first official U.S. coins were struck in the new mint, the motto had disappeared. It was replaced by the simple phrase “Liberty,” the motto that appears on U.S. coins to this day. Frankly, I don't care what nonsense is printed on our currency, as long as it is redeemable. They were never authentic or true Christians at all. I'll always remember a line from Walker Percy's novel The Second Coming (read many, many years sgo) when one of the main characters, Will Barrett, met these kind of Christians and said, "Christ should leave us. He's overstayed his welcome and taken up with the wrong people." Of course, the true Christ was never there at all. Just someone to confirm their ignorance, blindness, violence, and often racism.

Religion poisons everything 😢
The devil divides humans with religion. Religion and belief in Jesus are not the same. Jesus did not create a religion. You either accept Jesus as a savior or embrace the tricks of Satan without even realizing Satan is manipulating you. Satan created religion it's how the evil spirit creates hate among us. An example Catholics and Protestants. Jews and Muslims. Wars have started with religion.
So Sad that they say they love God....But support a criminal with 91 charges... Hypocrites.

It's the abortion issue, they're trapped to vote against Dems because only Reps are against abortion, can't you guys see it? They believe Republican policy is more aligned with God's so it doesn't matter if Trump's a vile person. Doesn't matter to them. Simple.
Very insightful interview. I have read some reports recently that Trump has lost some evangelical support. Fear can save your life or ruin it, on a national level it can be catastrophic.
So these Trump supporters find America's whiteness changing too fast (over the past century) that they're afraid (of what, really?!), but have no problem with their tech gadgets becoming obsolete within a year? Not all stupidities have a rationalizable reason - they're just plain stupidities arising from a whole host of personal defects
that is somewhat of a relief from the orange Jesus, maybe by the time of the election he will have lost a few more enough to make a difference. why is it so easy for so many people to be manipulated?

Methinks we have dodged a bullet... for now.
Rupert Murdoch. Australia’s great example.

Politics and Faith are not the same, there needs to be a separation between church and state; and there used to be until the Reagan era Republicans decided to change all of that because their party was sinking. They have been successful in making people believe that if they are Democrat, they have no values.
Democrats don't have any values.
Well said.

This is spot on. My evangelical MAGA family thinks Trump is fighting a biblical battle against pure evil on their behalf.

This is an excellent book. I devoured every word. It is a call to action for those in the church to follow Christ, not a moment hungry for earthly power.

Jesus supposedly said,
“no one gets to my father but through me…”
So ultimately, Christians worship Jesus’ daddy, and I don’t know if you’ve ever read the Bible but 99.99999% of that awful ancient book of bloodlust is about Jesus’ daddy…
SPOILER ALERT:
Jesus’ daddy is a complete a$$hole who is a textbook example of a (self proclaimed) violent narcissistic mass murderous megalomaniacal AUTHORITARIAN dictator.
There is absolutely nothing “loving” about the abrahamic god character.
In fact, each of the abrahamic religions are authoritarian at their very core as they worship the same disgusting idea for a god character.
I would argue that since most of the Bible is about the abrahamic god character, these awful people are the real Christians as they not only celebrate authoritarianism, they literally worship it in their choice of god.
The fact that the rest of us normal people have to pander to any persons faith and ideology is obscene, while our proven science is mocked by their ignorance.

Great discussion, and 100% agree that evangelical American Christians see this warrior willing to say whatever they like, but ultimately not representing Christ or behaving in a Christ-like manner, as deserving of their unquestionable support.
