I don't think there's much between the two if I'm honest, apart from lining up the frame, but the correct procedure is to remove the sub, however I see you point if you have a crane could clean up the engine nice while you there.
Hello buddy I don’t know if you can tell me ? I’ve got a zafira b and I’m replacing the back engine mount (gearbox ) and I’ve noticed the bolts are tricky to get too , can this be replaced frond under the car ?
There is no need to completely remove the subframe. You just have to loosen the bolts to gain a little more space which will be enough to remove the gearbox.
I'm just following the vx instruction mate I'm betting there are easier ways. Still need to disconnect the ball joints and ties rods and drop links so for the sake of extra room lying in my back on the drive the subframe removal was worth it
Hi, my gearbox has a rattling but when you press it goes quiet. What could be the problem. I'm not sure if gear oil is low or the release bearing is dead?
Hi Ive got a problem with my car hopefully you can help.. When driving I get a growling clicking noise coming from wat I believe is the gearbox or diff or final drive area it sounds like a bad wheel bearing to be honest.. But when I'm driving a dip the clutch the noise goes away would you say clutch or gearbox ..it's a 1.8 petrol vehicle zafira and I belive its the f17 box she's got..
So it's limited to the drive train, are you sure it's coming from the gearbox? If it were me I would lift the drive wheels off the ground and run the car and try to determine where the noise is coming from exactly
Hi ye I've done this and it sounds worse and does sound like coming from gearbox area.. Car goes in for mot on Friday.. I want to say wat happens there before I buy gearbox or clutch..
I forgot to mention in first there is no sound but once up to speed and go from first gear sounds starts I've also done the 5th gear test and she passed that
Hi mate yes I checked it.. It was low so topped it up and yes there was crap on the magnetic bolt.. I've been on with car today and I've had both front wheels off with car in drive noise seems like defo gearbox..
Hi mate which are we talking about? The link is a quick release pin and the mount on the gearbox I can't remember think it just screwed in, see my 2nd video I had to bodge it as the hole in the box was knackered
@TheDrivewayExperiment I've done it now I was about to give up and remembered I had a crowbar which popped it right off it was just am awkward angle , thanks for your reply though:)
Hi mate me again well the car passed her mot last week so didn't need to do rear bushes after all... Anyways I'm going to do my gearbox this weekend but not sure how much oil I'll need.. I've read its 1.6 liters does that sound write to you..
Hi mate sorry it's been a few weeks but I changed my gearbox and cluth and that it's been 4 weeks now.. Wow car runs much better now.. Thank you for your time to reply..
Mate, I have a absolutely terrible VERY loud clicking noise from my Astra 2009 when car is in idle and you fully press the clutch pedal. It’s had a new clutch about 2 months ago now. It’s doing my head in as I genuinely can’t find any help! Any ideas
@@TheDrivewayExperiment genuinely I don't know if it's hydrolic. I think it was the sound isn't coming from the clutch side. Mate it has everyone baffled as to what it could me. I'm wondering if it need gear box oil or diff oil . But I'm not sure 🤯🤔
@@722basil8 does it drive in every gear fine without any noise? Is it only when clutch us depressed? Could be release bearing or clutch not aligned properly, also have a check of the hydraulic fluid level under the bonnet (brake fluid resiviour)

@@TheDrivewayExperimentthanks for the reply , you did a good job replacing the gearbox 👍🏻 I replaced my clutch from 2006 1.6 astra, but now need replace the gear box and I just hate it to remove the subframe :(.

Thanks mate 👍
Ouch... I mean good job for taking the sub out, but that's a helluva lot of work. Best to invest in a 1 ton engine hoist, I did, never looked back ;)
