    The Méris is so cool, but out out my price range for a pedal that isn’t something like the Stomp. I’ll keep using my stomp and collider-as always, thanks for presenting alternatives for us non-career guitar guys who don’t buy alot of stuff.

      HX plus Source Audio is a whole vibe for sure, well chosen utility there. Game recognize game. A friend of mine went with the Zoia instead of the Stomp. Very different ecosystem being built as a modular synth type vs guitar pedal type but similar results can be achieved with unconventional methods.

      It's certainly not cheap, I think when you factor in that it includes quite a few of their pedals that are ~£260 and that they've developed a UI and stuff there's just no way that it would be as cheap as something like the HX Stomp (which I think is the best value piece of gear out there)

    I pre ordered the meris but sent it back. Just realized the Stomp can do most of what I need for delay. The features I wanted from the Meris I coil find elsewhere in smaller formats or within the Stomp itself

    Thanks for another informative video showing how to get the maximum out of one's gear. It's sympathetic for someone who's at least to some extent a "gear RUclipsr" to show a bunch of relatively expensive gear, especially cumulatively, and then turn around and explain how to get pretty similar tones with a much smaller budget. There's nothing wrong with having some expensive gear if that's what you derive your tone from, but it's pretty demotivating for most people to be shown 5k guitars, pedalboards and amps, and imply that's what's needed to have fun and create decent music.
    Personally I've not been very satisfied with the HX Stomp I got in 2020 during Covid as I was hoping it could compete with my real, loud, punchy tube amps for playing at home. But Line6 is to be commended on providing real value and keep on releasing updates years later and support those that bought their products.

    For me, In terms of sound, I think the Hx Stomp and Helix stuf in general is good as the top delays on the market. However the way that I use Hx Stomp in my board (1 Amp + 2 IR's and Modulations) is hard to explore complex delays by itself, but combined with external pedals time base fx (in my case Empress Echosystem and Reverb) is the best way to create huge ambient sounds, imo

    I know the delays on the HX Effects I have that I run into my tube amps are very good. Through the computer and sitting down refining all my presets and snapshots, I get great delays and other effects out of it to not need other pedals. That's what I prefer too. To have everything in one unit that lets me switch through my saves fluidly.

    For me it's not a matter of affording it money-wise, it's affording it timewise in the learning curve and setup time and also the affording bringing a pedalboard and all these things are not necessary with the Stomp or whatever unit you are using. I can stack as many types of delays as I want in a single patch on my Quad Cortex even though it doesn't have the depth at this time. I can give it most of the depth by using different delays together, and it will continue to improve with updates. It's not worth a separate pedal board. I got the QC and Helix to get away from all that.

    I ran delays on my HX stomp for about a year on the worship circuit, I recently stopped and got a NuX Atlantic to run in the loop. The biggest issue I ran into while using delays on the stomp ultimately was DSP. I’d find a delay and reverb I like to run in stereo and suddenly I’m limited in my amps and cabs and/or can’t use blocks because all my DSP was used up. Add to that losing a button to tap tempo/tuner. I dunno, it’s not worth it to me. Not without getting a Jet Micro or a little Robbie Pilot. I personally wouldn’t recommend it if your stomp is also your IR/direct solution. Maybe if you use the stomp in conjunction with an amp and pedals that could work, but I know for me it almost always gave me DSP limitations

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  2 года назад +1

      Hmm for me I've been able to run a Stomp just by itself - particularly for live stuff I found that going in stereo wasn't always necessary. Generally I find in the Stomp you can do Drive+Amp+Cab+Delay+Reverb with no trouble at all, it's when you start adding in a second amp, or multiple reverbs that things get a little trickier. Of course depending on exactly what sort of thing you're doing your mileage may vary, but with clever use of snapshots etc I've been super happy with the HX Stomp XL for the last Wedding season!

    • @DareBear2099
      @DareBear2099 2 года назад

    I have zero desire for any other delays or verbs as long as my stomp keeps ticking. I'd be hard pressed to get the same stereo sensations out of my older TC units (G major or Nova System). My only real gripe is I wish as time went along updates allowed for greater dsp usage (I only run verb delay and mods but still run out of dsp from time to time)

    There's the idea of what something can do, and then there's the actual audio result from something. The merris is amazing on paper, but you can achieve a lot better sounding results with an HX in my opinion.

  • @christopherjbutler
    @christopherjbutler 2 года назад +2

    @John Nathan Cordy. Every one of your beautiful tones and videos with this unit keeps nudging me closer to getting an HX. :-)
    But I am trying to hold out a bit longer
    What I WANT is a new Line 6 hardware generation.
    A new full size helix could maybe be a flagship with twice the DSP as the current helix, but what would be perfect for me would be a device that sits in the Line6 tier where the HX Stomp XL does now, that will have the DSP the current Helix is capable of, but in the form factor of a Boss GX-100, with a built in expression pedal. Scribble strips would be nice too, but I could understand if that can't be done in that form factor.

    I just came from the other direction: Got the M5 on my board since like 11 years (before that, M9, before DL4). Bought a HX Stomp for my new board. Played a gig with the HX Stomp alone, trying to replace my favourite Strymon Timeline sounds, which only partly worked (regular tape delay was okay, faux reverb based on Timeline Pattern mode not so much). Bought the Meris LVX and was surprised it cannot only come very close to both my favourite Strymon AND Line 6 delay sounds. But also, inspite being mainly a delay, it can also do tons of other effects, many better than the HX (of course, HX allows more combinations, has amps & cabs while LVX doesn’t, and can do better wah & a wider range of drive pedal emulations). Here’s my demo: ruclips.net/video/pnBIegSonsQ/видео.html
