      I set a Twin Power apart. It's so much plastic inside.

    I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

    When I last fished regularly most guys used some form of Mitchell reel in the UK. If you had plenty of money,ABU, the japanese stuff was everywhere at the low end, was not yet much good. The best quality reels were without doubt custom made trotting reels, made for themselves (and friends) by top quality machinists.

    Would the penn battle 3 6k be good for yellow tail ?

    • @eves08109
      @eves08109 2 года назад +3

      If you can spend the money the Slammer is what you want for Yellowtail. The Battle 3 is a decent reel but it's not in the same league as the Slammer.

      Any tuna needs a lot of line an old Penn 146 or 140 open caster was my go to and still used today 40 years later u will need at a minimum 6 k for line capacity tuna like to run then u pump them back y t are the smaller versions so I’d say 6 k should work w a Penn 15-40 rod. There combos are a great starter Live bait and jigs get tuna

    • @kencleg7721
      @kencleg7721 Год назад +2

      Slammers start at 275.00 u can buy a combo Penn fierce 6 k for that maybe 2 Get into it and go from there there’s couple on Craig’s list in Texas area Y t are mostly -30 lb fish

    • @kencleg7721
      @kencleg7721 Год назад +2

      A 6 k Penn combo w a ugly stick would work for yellowtail till u get into to it permanently your not casting off the boat long Don’t spen 250 $ for just the reel till u have too

    • @kencleg7721
      @kencleg7721 Год назад +2

      Yes Penn battle 3 for tuna would work matched w a 20/40 rod Or there combo even the shack sphere ugly stick line would work it’s drag and line capacity is what your after w tuna

    Your gear does not matter too much, just go where your gear will work, you can do a lot with a centre pin reel and whatever rod you have.

      I switched to Ancient Mariner there 5 k series and there cat sticks can handle most tuna - large blues there life time guarantee and there drags have improved big time for 150 for the combo it’s tough last gulf trip sharks aroun 125 lbs were caught the eyes are large enough for a spinning set up pick your color I use for large blue cat 40-60 lb drift rigs but I take these for 60 lb bottom cod and tuna trips also Web site only check u tube that challenger rod will last u a life time 3 years no issues I like the 4 k over the 5 k there 5 k is the size of a 7000 Abu cat pro
