Wow, couldn't disagree more. "The movie is rotten to the core", a touch of overkill there wouldn't you say? 😂 First of all, the reshoots weren't written by Ayer, only directed by him. You even showed a screenshot of the Twitter page in which Ayer states that the reshoots were written by Geoff Johns. Also, I'm not sure if you noticed but at one point during the video you said that you have no doubt that the Ayer cut is better, but then towards the end you contradicted yourself by saying that you have no doubt that the Ayer cut ISN'T better than the theatrical version. Talk about inconsistency.. whatever. Editing is the spine of the movie, bad editing can completely destroy a movie. Same thing with music and tone, and obviously the terrible reshoots. the film's score by Steven Price is fantastic btw! I read a lot of pages from Ayer's script and I can safely say that it's definitely better than the theatrical version. It has so much more to it, from character arcs to actual payoffs to things that were establish but went nowhere in the theatrical version. The first and third acts were butchered the most. Btw, many of the scenes in the Snyder cut are the same as the theatrical version and yet, they're much better in Snyder's version. Keep that in mind. Obviously it's all a matter of opinion but I thought that the performances were grate! Even with the so so script. While I agree that the Joker wasn't great, I will say that, most of his performance was left on the cutting room floor. Believe it or not, but all the Joker scenes were either reshot, cut short or entirely, or changed in some way shape or form. All of them, I kid you not. It's still doesn't guarantee anything, but I'm sure that it was at least a much cleaner and passionate performance. I also like the look of the movie. There're so many shots that look straight up like comic panels! The color palette is okay, it's very Ayer. And yes, he does have a style. The costumes are amazing! They showed in the behind the scenes the amount of detail, care, and thought that went to each costume and prop, it blew my mind! I guess you don't remember 2016's Halloween and beyond, and how popular the Harley Quinn cosplay was. You talked about the story and there're too many backstories and not enough focus on the mission, unlike Gunn's film. Yeah, that's the point! There're more then one way to write movies. Ayer's movie is a character driven film, with themes of love and family. While Gunn's movie is much more story driven. Bottom line, I don't know if it's "one of the best comic book movies ever made". But, from what I read and research, I truly believe that Ayer made a solid movie and that's more than enough for me. I think that he's a very talented filmmaker and I actually follow his career ever since Suicide Squad. And no, He doesn't just randomly posts stuff about his cut. He keeps talking about it because people keep asking him about it. I think his cut should be released, I really want to see it! And even if it's bad, Ayer said that he'll have no problem being criticized as long as it's his movie and not some butchered studio version. So there.
Honestly, i don't think it was a problem to show each one's background instead of just telling us it by conversations, i think that for a first movie of what intended to be a saga, it's okay, but it would be a waste of time in future movies u know. Because Suicide Squad usually gets new members or replacements, and if the Director decided to waste X minutes of film on each member's backstory every film, it would make them seem repetitive. After all, considering that in this first film, Amanda Waller's project Task Force X was still under the government's authorization to be implemented, so it actually makes sense, bcs in that scene on the restaurant, she is presenting their files to the government agent (or whoever he was) so he could have an insight of that team that she wanted to make.
OK I'm just gonna say this becuase no one else will. David ayer, Zack Snyder, even studios like blumhouse. I'm not saying thier movies are the next Golden age of cinema, but what I will say, is I've never seen a movie from any of them that I didn't like. Rebel moon did for me in two hours, what Disney failed to do in years for star wars. It made me give a shit. David ayer made a good suicide Squad movie, it wasn't as bad as everyone says it is. If you don't like something, don't see or talk about it. Vote with your wallet and let the situation rest.
Probably bcs he was really excited with this project, and really wanted to see it on screens. And this time, he was dealing with really big name of the popculture
Clearly you are James Gunn's fan, and you have not f**king clue how David Ayer's true vision for Suicide Squad. You probably praise Gunn's The Suicide "Bombed" Squad.
Marvel: Infinite universes
DC: Infinite Director's cuts
your narration is amazing. I haven't even thought of this movie since it came out, but you make such a great point

I agree with this assessment.
