    I recently bought the Air King Masai Mara, 3 1/2" gun. It wouldn't cycle light 2 3/4" clay loads at first. I cleaned and oiled it good, and cycled the bolt literally 1000 times at home, and now it will shoot anything I put in it. It doesn't spit the light load shells out far, but it does cycle them. I really like the gun.

    I bought the retay last year and it has been the best gun I've ever owned. The day I bought it I took it out without cleaning or oil and shot 4 boxes of 1 1/8 loads without a problem. I put some 1 oz in and it didnt like them. I havent tried since. That's the only ammo that hasnt ran perfect out of it. To me its not a big deal at all. Just as easy to find 1 1/8 as it is 1

      I bought a $500 Matrix by Tristar, and it cycles everything, including the light loads. Has the fit and feel of a Wingmaster 870, and resembles the Benelli Montefeltro in features.

    My Stoeger M3500 cycles everything I put in it. 1 oz to heavy 3 1/2. But I keep it clean and oiled, because that is a necessity on inertia guns. My Maxus will do the same. Nice to have shotguns that can switch on the fly like that without modification or changing something.

    I picked up a Remington V3 Waterfowl Pro after last season. Can't wait to get my first bird with it! I paid right about 1K for it, and I'd be pissed if I spent $1300 on a shotgun that acted like that Retay. If a gun is marketed to cycle all three shell sizes, it should not have that many FTF.

I've only shot skeet with mine and it's been flawless. I do have a Benelli M2 that I bought after it and I like it a little better only because of the weight difference. The M2 is a good bit lighter and swings better. My V3 takes a lot of muscle to get it swinging fast but if it was a plastic version I'm sure they both would be about the same

So I got rid of it Get the wood one or black synthetic much better material. And also if you do buy one you will need to shoot at least 200 to 500 rounds of heavy loads like duck geese or turkey out of it to break in that spring. After that you should be able to fire less powerful loads out of it without any issues.

    Always been a fan of gas guns, I got my browning silver hunter on sale with a rebate for 1100 bucks canadian a few years back and it eats the biggest 3.5 inch 2 oz turkey loads and 2.75 inch 1 oz light target loads. If I shoot more than 4 or 500 shells without cleaning, it starts to hiccup with the lightest target loads, so yes they do need to be cleaned more than inertia guns but I've only ever had jams with the lightest target loads after it get really dirty. Never jams with any 3 inch or bigger. When its really clean and oiled up nicely it'll cycle 7/8 oz reduce recoil skeet loads. The benellis are super nice, but I just like how gas guns shoot, and I've shot a Beretta a400 and they're really well made guns but they're nearly twice the price as my browning and they don't do anything it doesn't do.

      Good point Wildfire. The 3” chamber will better cycle lighter loads than a 3.5”. As for your rare jams on the Retay, they could have also been due to any rearward movement while you were firing. All inertia actions, including Benelli, are subject to this.

    A little gun smith trick i had too do it on my stoeger to get it too shoot light loads. Take and wipe that gun completely dry of oil it won’t hurt a inertia driven gun to be run dry if the oil is a little thick it causes just enough resistance to not kick those light loads out. And the second thing if that doesn’t work take and put a weight in the butt stock u can get them on midway USA or any gun website. Just a little advice if u really like the gun but if u don’t care for it much that franchi and benelli is hard not too take to the field if it works every time u pull the trigger

    If there’s a recoil weight in the butt stock of the Masai Mara it will prevent 2&3/4” shells from cycling. My Stoeger M3500 had that issue. It came installed in the gun already and I just had to take it out and leave it out. I didn’t notice much difference when shooting 3.5” with and without it but it cycles 2&3/4” without fail now.

What a great vid, Ann and l would like to see you and Jordan do a pigeon hunt with a pair of Remington 1100's. After all they were made in the States. A great gun! To be fair. The only reason Retay built an inertia gun is because Benelli's patents have expired on their components. So, Retay is trying to nail that market with a more affordable price point. Cheaper means less refined plain and simple.

    With the light loads for the one that shoots the 3 1/2 check if they have a different compression ring in the fore-end if so one will say heavy load and the other one will say light load. More than likely it has the heavy load one in. The other compression ring is probably at the top of the fore-end were you unscrewe it to take it apart in that hole.

    I've never liked recoil operated guns other than an old Browning A5 Light 12, I have owned 2 Benelli's, an M2 and a SBE 1 both have been finicky with light loads and the M2 would not feed slugs of any kind even with a dedicated Benelli rifled slug barrel. I have always loved my Beretta auto's for waterfowl hunting, Winchester and Franchi Over and Unders for Clay sports and upland bird hunting.

    • @SCwrestlerTTSB
      @SCwrestlerTTSB Год назад

      I've got the masai mara 28" 12 ga. Been patterning it for turkey lately.. everything shoots low, 15 yd - 60 yd it shoots very low, not a little bit, a very annoying amount low. Not sure if it's just mine. I've used several loads from dove to turkey with OEM chokes and a Kicks .660 turkey and the POI is always low. I may try swapping some shims, but I don't think that's the issue.

    • @olegig5166
      @olegig5166 Год назад +1

      @@SCwrestlerTTSB I had one of those things last fall. It's POI was about 7" below the POA. I sent it back and they agreed it shot low but said it was within their tolerances. They offered to BEND the barrel but laughed when I suggested the barrel needed replacing. Told them to send it back and I promptly traded it.
      Seems Retay has two problems, Quality Control and Management. Their guns seem to work great, they just don't shoot where pointed. But hey, lots of guys were lucky and got good ones.
