Couldn’t agree more Matt. As a business owner and in the process of winding it down to care for a family member, you have it nailed. I would add however… Make it slow/or very controlled growth, so you don’t lose control and implode. Very important tip that has worked for me. I applaud your ethic and acumen.
We got our first order for a store! I delivered twenty-five christmas ornaments to a local farm to table store last week. And they are talking to me about getting Cutting Boards (that i will make) and a few other things after the first of the year. I tried to get their hat business and i was almost there, but the person they've been using came through with the order. They know we can do it though, so if there is a problem in the future maybe we can be the solution. Also, we did a craft show the day after black Friday and was approached by a lady that is going to be organizing a bridal show in February or March. She wants us to be a part of that. That's why i like craft shows. The little one here one there sales are nice but we want the bigger orders as well. Still not moved in to our new space but getting close. Hopefully by the end of the year. Some great tips in this video Matt. Thanks for sharing them with us little guys.
A great video chock full of information, tips and tricks!!! You should totally sell some "Matt Merch" where the bottom of the glass is etched with "Glad you got to see me!" and your face! :D
I made it through the whole video 🙂. Matt, you might REALLY like reading (or listening to) the book: "2 Second Lean" by Paul Akers. He talks a TON about what you are doing there in your garage now and really helped us out on the farm of making things more efficient.
Thanks Matt- you always have great content. Just because I am full of useless/full information....niche is a french word for an architectural term. The french would pronounce it as a soft c or our "sh". From my observations, you Americans pronounce it Niche with a hard "ch". So when in Rome....
I really appreciate all the videos you and your wife do. My co2 laser should be here sometime next month and your videos helped me make my decision.. You're one of my favorite channels. Merry Christmas.
just wanted to say thanks for making great content and am always looking forward to you tips and tricks , I just started a laser business up this year and have learned a lot from you so again thanks for all your hard work . Merry Christmas and happy holidays
Nice video. I got a shop vac early on as well but it was mainly for vacuuming small bits of acrylic that can't be swept up. Haven't worked with wood much but the vac-sander combo is pretty smart.
Hey buddy you ever do any leather engraving on leather with the thunder. I spray mine with resolene but the char still rubs off...Any tips? Thanks..love your vids!!
Great video as always! We've been pre painting our birch boards and masking them. The issue we keep running into randomly is brown staining under the masking. I'm not sure if its sap or smoke getting under the masking. But this has caused a lot of delays and us redoing projects completely or re touching up paint.
That is from smoke. Are you using a credit card to put the tape down? If all the bubbles are out it shouldn’t do that. Or you need different tape. The one I use doesn’t do that.
Thank you for the tips! I'm new to laser and trying to understand the first few tips. Do you use the vacuum to quickly collect all the little pieces and then empty out the vacuum to grab the little pieces? Also, not sure if I understand the tip about sanding instead of using 3M tape. I thought 3M tape was to help glue small pieces?
The vacuum is for cleaning up the little pieces you don’t want so you don’t have to pick them up by hand and the 3M tape is so you don’t have burn marks on your products so instead of using the tape, you can sand them while they’re still in the skeletons.
Great advice, as always, Matt. Hey, I have the garage finally finished. All electrical work has been completed & the thunder is ready to fire this Friday. One problem i have come across is that my laser tube has what can only be described as micro air bubbles running through it. I managed to get rid of the 5mm to 10mm ones by pinching the water tubes. I am running an S&A 5000 with distilled water mixed with antifreeze. Any advice on the micro bubbles causing me issues would be greatly appreciated
HI Matt, hope you don't mind a question... I got an order for a dozen stemless wineglasses, they will be my first. With a round logo, do you distort the graphic for that extreme taper?
How does the fan that came with the thunder compare to your fan that you have installed now. I am currently using the fan that came with my thunder and thinking of getting a new fan.
Hey Matt, love your videos and they have helped me tremendously! Would you by chance let me know what your main Etsy page is so I can check it out? Cheers and be well!
Sorry, I do not hand that out because last time I did a bunch of people went and looked at it and if you don’t buy anything you get pushed to the bottom because of the algorithm.

Keep up the good work Matt !!🇦🇺
I use the 4 inch foam rollers for faster coverage.
Yes that would be great

I CAN DO IT!!!!
Words to live by Matt! Great advice!
😃
I've often felt weird doing the hybrid thing (no niche). You have convinced me to embrace it. Lol.
Heck yeah
Refinishing with clear coats also is golden on time saving. Just make sure it's completely dry😏
Thanks

I only cut leather on it and engrave using the fiber or UV.

@laserengravingwithmatt7833 yeah we use a squeegee to get it smooth and all the bubbles out. We use TapeManBlue paper transfer tape.
Do you think using a dust collector as a fan is over kill for a diode. I plan to get me if i can get some sales going.
No I think it will be great

That’s exciting. Just let it run. They will work themselves out
@laserengravingwithmatt7833 Thanks for the quick reply, Matt. I'll let it run longer tomorrow before firing the laser. Thanks again
Awesome video & your so correct 👍
Thanks
HI Matt, hope you don't mind a question... I got an order for a dozen stemless wineglasses, they will be my first. With a round logo, do you distort the graphic for that extreme taper?
Yes. It’s normally around 1/4” wider. Make sure to test it with blue tape first
@@laserengravingwithmatt Thanks so much for the quick reply... you rock 🤩
How does the fan that came with the thunder compare to your fan that you have installed now. I am currently using the fan that came with my thunder and thinking of getting a new fan.
Also, I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one that only messes up on people I know orders 😂
It’s a lot better. 😂 me too
Why did you choose a thunder over an omtech?
Because of customer support and I worked on them before. The build quality is not that great compared to thunder.
Could you link locations of your wood sheets and other items you buy?
I get my wood from Menards and everything else is in the description. 😃
Thank You! Love your content by the way!
Oddly enough, I have missed you telling us to get off our backsides and back to work :)
😆 no problem 😉 I will do it more.
Do u sell the hold down pins
Yes in the Etsy link in the description
