Meh that's completely unrelatable. I know many many people are like that but to me it's just completely unimaginable how can someone spend so much money for virtual items. There is litereally nothing in virtual world that I would be willing to pay that much money for. 40 dollars for a game ( when price drops; coz I don't buy at launch) is all i am willing to spend on single game. no microtransactions and battle passes. if you can't make me enjoy your game by spending 40 dollars at max ..well you failed me as a developer and i'm not interested in your game whatsoever. there are millions of games, why waste money and time for one that's over blown with cash grabbing.
Similar spot for me currently. But I had my microtransaction stint in League of Legends as a teen using allowance for skins in my friend group. It was one of the only ways to add status to yourself in the game.
There is no way you mentioned this CSGO knife and not put it on the Rarity category. It is basically a very low chance pattern on an already low chance drop, which results in it being completely blue instead of a mix with gold/brown. I'm pretty sure the 90% reason it has this stupidly high value is its rarity. Edit: and some other factors that narrow even thinner the chance of someone getting this specific pattern, which again results in only more rarity.
when it comes to microtransactions, the closest i have been in the past 14-16 years is a free to play Genshin account, its pretty decent. not mentioning a 70% off project Jhin skin for like 2 bucks that i used for hundreds of hours in a game i dont play anymore...value is in the eye of the beholder after all
Bought the battle pass once And the grind immediately threw me off and now I dont buy or spend any money on micro transactions as well as games at launch except a few exceptions such as Fromsoft and
To suck money from those dirty rich people who look for a way to be able to spend their millions of dollars of wealth. PS: it's very difficult indeed to be stuck with so much money.
People also buy cosmetics because it enhances the experience. While luxury goods do a good job of signaling, they also provide additional value, otherwise efficient markets hypothesis dictates that those products would be unsaleable. There is no transaction comp for the $1m CSGO skin. Love the mention of the MMO gamblers fallacy -- I can't imagine dumping $60-$120/yr alone into an MMO then having to pay to store that virtual "progress." FPS are infinitely transferable!
Would you spend $1,000,000 on a video game?

Sometimes the value is just imagination of some people and this causes some devs and companies to fall in this value trap and lose money and time.

Gambling is my favorite pastime 🥰🥰🥰
Did you know that 99% of gamblers quit before they hit it big?
So glad I don’t play online games or have any friends. It sounds ridiculous.
