    Travis’s saying “Marisha” really shows the connection these people have with one another. He was telling her “You know what he’s going through, what he was planning to do, let him do this.” By now most of you know Sam got diagnosed with cancer and was planning an exit from the game to seek treatment. When this fight happened, Sam saw a better and more fitting way out. Absolutely amazing.
    I hope and pray Sam recovers quickly and fully….one survivor to another.
    Fuck Cancer.

    After QUITE some time, this character death brought me to tears again.
    Hasn't happen since season 1 I believe, think for the cast it was similar.

      @@VisualSpecialist the only major negative events I can think of are Laudna dying (they got her back and became friends with some level 20 old PCs) and Ashton fucking up immensely and almost dying (he got a sick new power and fearne still got the superpower Matt had planned for her from the start) so no super big negatives there iirc
      Which events were you thinking of? /gen

      @@shrimpwithagun5702 You're right there haven't been ANY lasting consequences with the player character in this campaign until now. I think every character in C3 died except Imogen & Dorian, but they all have been brought back to life. I have no idea what the other person is talking about - well maybe Bertrand Bell and The guy who sponsored them early in the campaign Lord E (I don't know how to spell his name) who was killed by Otohan.

    • @DuckDoolittle
      @DuckDoolittle 4 месяца назад +2

      Laudna dying literally changed the entire direction of the story, what do you mean no lasting consequences? The role play and story elements are WAY more interesting than any mechanical effects could ever hope to be, especially since a PC dying in a party of adventurers at this level is basically just a speed-bump, it’s a minor inconvenience at worst

    • @shrimpwithagun5702
      @shrimpwithagun5702 4 месяца назад +1

      @@DuckDoolittle Changing the direction of the story does not inherently mean a negative consequence. Youre right it totally changed the direction of the story though because they made friends with vox machina, a group of level 20 adventurers with insane political power and money, making the stakes way lower because they have someone else to go cry to if things fuck up too badly. Also a character whos been in the game for almost a hundred episodes and we have watched for 400 hours dying is FAR more impactful than some rp bullshit and in no way a speedbump lmao. I saw a bunch of people crying over FCG and Laudna, now find me a moment where they cried over some RP.

      Yeah it was unfortunate timing to be sure but give em a break.. I'm sure the switch was planned and since they had all the other cast for the switch scheduled, they kinda had to go through with it..
      I'm sure the switch was planned in advance but FCG's sacrifice and death was certainly not, Sam deciding to do in the the moment due to how badly the battle was going and also recognizing that this was a perfect in character move and moment for it's overall arc at that very moment .
      It's just unfortunate timing really as I saw it and certainly not intentional to upset fans I would think..
      I mean, knowing how some of the behind the scenes for any production goes, the change over in cast was scheduled maybe months in advance, as they are all working actors.. so basically, you have to commit to those plans for a whole host of reasons, both personal and professional.. these people are busy, they also do preparation, as well as turn down other work to commit to be there..
      It's just really unfortunate that it was scheduled to happen just after an unpredictable, controlled by dice roll, event in the game and the loss of a fan favorite character..
      I mean, I totally get the fans frustrations, I had it as well..
      I mean, if FCG hadnt done that, it's totally possible that the switch might have been received as refreshing and a cool thing, which was what I believe the intent of it was actually and not ya know, cock blocking both the players and fans from getting to have their emotional catharsis over the loss of FCG..
      I applaude them for attempting to do something a bit different.. but when you are telling a story collectively with random elements decided by dice roll and in the moment improvisation.. you will most certainly run the risk of planning something to happen run counter to your intentions for it.. but you can only make something interesting and creative happen by planning a schedule fairly ahead in advance, so the new players/cast can hopefully fit it into their work schedules, all at the same time to boot.
      They took a swing and unfortunately it just didn't work out but honestly, I don't think they should stop attempting to try new things just in case a very rare event of a major characters unforseen death might, and I stress might.. happen.
      And I suspect that since it did actually happen, next time they plan something similar, they'll certainly also plan better with contingencies in case it does..
      I mean, these elevated let's plays, not just critical role but dimension 20 and others, is still a very young and new format and they are all basically trailblazers in a sense, not having any real established history on what to do and how to do it and are all basically winging it in a way, by the seat of their pants..
      So I'd cut em a bit of slack, their track record is pretty darn good overall.. but new forms will always have new issues now and then without any sense of 'collective conventional wisdom' to fall back on since all these shows are basically new territory..
      Just my two cents and trying to maybe add a bit of speculative perspective and observation..
      But ya, it was a let down but I'm fairly sure after being a fan for nearly ten years now, that I'm sure it wasn't intentional on their part.. sometimes you have to make the pragmatic call rather than the reactive one... And even if it was a conscious decision to do and they could have done it another way.. sometimes bad calls are made, not every idea is gonna be a winner or popular despite your best intentions.. (speaking as a creator here and from personal experience, lol)
      Tho I do honestly get it even tho I'm sort of being an apologist for them here. I did not enjoy it myself as a fan and you have every right of course to feel however ya feel about it. This is just my take is all.
      Cheers!

      @@Sgtspork the episodes aren't live streamed. They could have filmed the "crown keepers arc" any time. Put it at the end of the month when normal campaign episodes are supposed to have their break. Then they could have produced a one shot (and if Aabria still wanted a forced PVP battle she would have more incentive to speed things up), in time to connect Orym and Dorian in a later episode.

    • @Sgtspork
      @Sgtspork 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@LostWhits LOL, I know they aren't live streamed.. and I get what you are saying but it doesn't work due to it wasn't solely a crown keepers episode... the first hour is actually Bell's Hells cast playing before the switch over to the crown keepers..
      and the continuity of the play would be all screwed up.
      now if it was Crown Keepers from the start and the Bells Hells cast only were there to introduce the Crown Keepers and didn't actually play for an hour or so... then honestly, that idea would have some real merit and I'd fully agree with it..
      also, again, you are forgetting the BTS logistical aspects.. this was planned ages ago, who's to say the Bell's Hells cast were available for suddenly adding a new session on the fly like that in the first place.. changing a planned format event isn't so simple.. and it's easier to go "they should have.." after the fact, rather than actually being the person in the moment making the calls and who actually has all the information that we simply are not privy to.. I mean, I'm hoping that makes sense to you, it does to me..
      see, my point is that it's super easy to armchair quarterback a situation on it's face... but remember, you aren't privy to all the facts, logistics, and mechanics of the actual situation of putting on such a production and the reasons calls were made as to why it possibly went down that way...
      there are tons of reasons it had to go through the way it did.. it's easy to say, they could have done this or that but honestly, that's just a guess on anyone's part based on very incomplete knowledge on their part.. and mainly an emotional gut reaction honestly.
      including the fact they simply also could made a bad call, it's totally possible.. again, it's easy to criticize after the fact than being the one running the show.. it simply might not of occurred to them in the moment. it's a far different thing to be on the outside as a fan than being the one's actually creating the show. I mean, I wasn't there either.. I don't know either as it could of just as easily been a bad call but I'm not some simple fanboy blindly defending my fandom... I'm an old, lol, and I had a 30+ year career as a Pro Audio Engineer who has a fair amount of life experience in the field of production and direct experience with how what goes on behind the scenes can vastly differ from the audience perception of unexpected situations and the reasons behind choices made by those running the show.. but I'm not at all talking down here, I fully don't know at all either.. I wasn't there and also don't have any more or less information about the why or what's on the situation either.. just perhaps a bit of direct life experience that it's NOT always as simple as it may seem to a person not involved (ie the audience). which is why I fully admit, it still could just of been a bad call.. but there's also plenty of reasons it might of been the ONLY choice but only those in the loop of running the production truly know all the facts of the situation..
      now perhaps, they should have directly addressed the situation to the fans.. but again, that's hindsight and second guessing someone in the moment without actually being there.... in fact, based on my experience as a longtime fan, it WILL be addressed (and im not sure if they haven't already done so on social media somewhere already as I don't tend to follow that stuff and stay far away from the evils of ex-twitter, lol). what usually happens is it comes out in a more casual way than a direct one.. Like on four sided dive or previously, Talks Machina.. but not everyone watches those and it can easily be missed..
      and in that fact, I think that's probably a valid thing to criticize them on (I do) as perhaps they should have been and should be a lot more direct with the fans about the situation due to the fair amount of backlash, especially in this instance, rather than let them speculate and wonder.. but it's a bit early to tell yet, as we haven't had a four sided dive yet.. but that's how they usually do it and unless it's a thing to do with cast issues (Orion, Brian) and on that, they stay quiet. but they DO usually address such stuff like this.. and even admit when they screw up (that's one of the reasons I actually respect them a lot).
      look, to boil down my point.. All I know is that the audience/fan limited perspective does not often match the reality of the situation behind the scenes (tho sometimes it is spot on or it's even worse than they know, lol).
      it's not some fault on the fan's part of course, it's just simple human nature and they are just working from their limited and insulated perspective as best they can and my point is that due to that limited perspective, it's just not always usually as simple as it may appear to them, or you, or even me as granted, I could be absolutely wrong myself. but these people have a pretty damn good track record overall as decent, caring, and humble people for over a decade.. so, maybe they are one of the few that perhaps deserve a break on quick judgements.. or at least give a little time for us to see what information comes out about it in the near future at least..
      it's so easy to be myopic. the internet is all about the Id, for better or worse.. but perhaps taking a breath and giving things a little time for better perspective is a much better thing than just always going with one's gut emotion.. (that statement isn't directed at you personally, it's really for the much broader internet overall..)
      thanks for listening, it's refreshing to have a civil discussion on the internet among strangers.. (heh, welcome to my Ted Talk about perspective, lol.. I have way too much free time it seems :p).
      Cheers!
