Even if you dont know the band , you know how they sound
I can imagine back then,waiting for the new singer to start singing and be like “ok not bad”
With Back in Black AC/DC stepped out of history and into legend. They came back like a sweat soaked phoenix rising from the ashes.
That’s it. Dead on accurate. They became legends of the highest stature with this record.

We, in our big group of kids aged 17 to 21, did NOT expect the band to continue on after we heard Bon died. So, when this album came out, we went NUTS! Seen them 3 times live in concert. Best shows ever. Best money spent ever for me!

Hells Bells especially the bell towing is in respect to the passing and Bon. The guys of AC/DC wanted that. Malcolm said he went to take a piss and came up with the ideal of a big fucking bell. His words, lol

We were mourning Bon Scott but we warmed up to Brian Johnson and respected his impossible task of stepping in for a legend. Brian's been there for 42 years but he will always be the "new guy."

Never thought they could come back and then they just made this masterpiece! Certain songs Bons versions are better however Brian helped everyone heal and wrote some absolute gold
@@timp1390 I have yet to hear Brian Johnson improve on a Bon Scott song. But Brian saved the band and sang many classics in his own right.

The transition that took place when Bon died and Brian took over the reins. Man it smacked you in the teeth. Good rock n roll is good rock n roll. We warned up to Brian. I’m bias because I grew up with Bon. My first concert ever was highway to hell. I was 11. It was hard but we warned up to Brian and he did great things with ac. 🤘

When I was little I remember my older cousins listen to bon, like highway to he'll, big balls, and dirty deeds, but I didn't get into AC DC till I was a teen and was with Brian. So naturally I loved Brian from the back in black album and honestly didn't even know the difference. I like bon too, but for the music itself of course I prefer Brian cus it was the new music of my era. But if hearing both for the first time I couldn't really say who I would like better cus they are both great.
When they made this album, the band had a bell cast specifically for this song... It came out perfectly tuned for the song!
They had to adjust it in post as they had to record it quickly. I believe they also slowed it down a tiny bit to fit, if I remember the interview correctly

Back in Black is a tribute to the late great Bon Scott, RIP. Having said that, the term Back in Black means that you are no longer in debt, or in the red. When Bon died he left AC/DC in debt or in the red so to speak. So when they found Brian Johnson to be able to carry on (because they had a new lead singer and Bon's families blessings to keep going), they were now Back in Black. I love the way AC/DC use old sayings like this. Hells Bells is an old saying I used to hear my Uncles use when there was some startling news. I love this band so much. I bought Back in Black when it first came out, I was ten years old. It was then and still is the greatest album I have ever heard. I love your reactions Biz, especially because you do whole albums, so you really get the feel of the band. Keep up the great work Cobba

Just some info. Back In Black WAS a tribute to Bon Scott. Also; there are 13 bell chimes at the beginning of the song.
The greatest intro to any AC/DC song, the bells and guitar, it's position on the album and the the timing of the albums release, it's just so poetic, tragic but poetic
The penmanship never ever skipped a beat between Bon and Brian really!!!! I mean Malcom and Angus and still writing the tunes with the lead singer’s input so the formula never skipped a beat!!!!! One of their greatest works was this album,I am a huge fan of the Bon Scott era but they came back just as powerful with Brian because they were smart enough to reinvent themselves to suit Brian's vibe rather than finding a Bon substitute. With Bon it was a bit Bluesier and old school Rock n Roll whereas with Brian it got more hard Rock and perfect for the hard Rock craze of the 1980s.I always interpreted the song 'Hells bells' metaphorically....not the devil stuff literally but meaning I'm back and am ready to kick ass in life because I am a badass now....probably their way of saying the band is ready to kick ass with this new sound and singer which they certainly did with the album being the #2 record of all time.Wait til you hear 'shoot to thrill'!!
At the concert, a bell came down with AC/DC Logo. Brian was hanging on it. This was the first song. The crowd went crazy. From there it was history. I was so glad to be a witness.
1980 may be the greatest year ever for Hard Rock and Metal. So many killer releases, my life was changed!

This album is so good there’s not a mediocre song on it! In my opinion the greatest rock album of all time

Great summary at the beginning noting the historical significance of this rock album. What an introduction to the Brian Johnson era of ACDC... Bon Scott is an undeniable legend, but Brian Johnson was a big part of the band going next level. There is no 'who is better' argument needed, they both help make ACDC great, the right singer at the right time... twice!
Wow Biz. I have been listening to this for decades but never thought about a bridge from Highway to hell then being in hell to hear the bells. And the band is mourning so it’s back in black- great reaction!!!!! This was one of my first concerts - the concert started with the spotlight on the actual bell - it started to ring as it decended. Damn
I realized this a couple of years ago. Highway to Hell is just as good as Back in Black. Those two and For those about to Rock are a supernatural trilogy. They are all produced by Mutt Lange and have the same production sound.
Heard this album in Jr high when it came out. Been playin it religiously for last 40 years. Sounds as good as first day

I remember the day this came out. Anxiety brah. I had seen them with Bon which was kickass! Our local radio station was gonna play the whole album!! We were primed 😉 and ready to be Judge and Jury, lol! Of course we freakin loved it!

I've seen all your Acdc reactions I believe and when you're done with this album you should definitely do the next one which is "For those about to rock" and their 2020 album "Power up" it's classic Acdc and just great. Great reaction
So Brian couldn't write any lyrics, he was in the studio with writers block. The studio was in the Bahamas during hurricane season and a terrible storm was rolling it. Brian was having lunch with the producer and talked about the storm to him. That conversation became the first verse "a rolling thunder, pouring rain, coming down like a hurricane. Lightnings flashing across the sky" someone would probably die. This album is amazing BECAUSE Brian took real world events around him to write it. Real stories. The next song Shoot To Thrill and Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution are also about real world events

I remember a writer describing Johnson as familiar looking as a pint of beer, built like a middleweight boxer and has a voice like the soundtrack from Rambo, lol.

Makes me happy to see someone get so much joy out of it. It takes everyone about 2 seconds once an AC/DC song starts before their head starts moving. I defy anyone to listen to AC/DC while keeping their head still.
When they wrote this song the went down to the Bahamas ! As soon as they got there a huge storm hit the island ! So the song is about a a tornado ripping threw the island and taken no prisoners ! It's really quite lucky that the storm hit because we got a legend track that's iconic
On the night of the storm that inspired the lyrics to this song, Brian was quoted to say, upon hearing the thunder, "Hells bells", an old exclamation of surprise. There you have it.!
You probably don't remember but I told you this one was gonna blow your mind! It's AC/DC but it's got a different vibe to it. I was insane when this came out! I missed Bon, don't get me wrong but this was FIRE! I didn't have the money to buy it yet so I carried a transistor radio around with me so I wouldn't miss it if it got played. We didn't have Boom boxes yet. At least I didn't anyway. I am sooooo glad you enjoyed it! It's hard to believe they actually found a second Frontman and with him came a new sort of sound IMO. You still knew who the hell was playing but like I said, different vibe. I just remembered this...We were in a friends car and he had his parents house speakers in the back seat. They were about 3 feet tall x 1 1/2 wide? They were loud! We got into a fender bender and me and my friend were in the back seat rockin to this album(cassette) and had no idea that we hit the car in front of us! LOL! Good times!

When I was ten I was into AC/DC big time. Loved the sound and the way it was bluesy and hard. I was 13 when this album came it out after Bon died. Not just me but everyone else was completely blown away. In high school this album was a staple at any party you went to. It’s still on my playlist to this day.

You are correct, Back in Black was referring to Bon Scotts death! I'm obsessed with black people reaction videos, they simply make me feel like I'm discovering new music I've heard all my life!
This album is great . They recently had the anniversary for this album. I have 2 other Brian Johnson that are my favorites : For Those About Rock We Salute You & Flick Of The Switch. Which the Album : Flick Ok The Switch is a great album , but doesn't get it's due credit . Many first timers who react to ACDC think that " Thunderstruck " is the best song . If they don't start from album #1 with Bon Scott , they can't have much of an opinion .
Flick of the switch is the 2nd best Brian Johnson era album, just behind Back in Black. Fly on the Wall and Blow up Your Video are well, eeeekkkk, especially Fly on the Wall.

Always important to remember that when you look at album sale stats from this time period that we actually had to go IN PERSON with cash money to buy an album. You might have even had to get someone to drive you to the mall. You had to REALLY want it.

With that super long intro to this first track on Brian’s debut, spare a thought for the committed AC/DC fans in 1980 who brought the album home and were shitting themselves waiting to verify if the new guy was any good.
Your theory…is just a happy accident…not a conspiracy. Angus and Malcolm have never showed themselves to be deep thinkers. They just want to play the music.

Correction: Dirty Deeds album was Bon Scott's last AC/DC album. Dirty Deeds came after Highway to Hell.

no denying this is a great album but with Angus and Malcolm it was hard to miss! this to me is more polished without the adlib stuff we were use to from Bon.
Brian has stood the test of time but ya know Bon is still the one!!! good stuff keep it coming.

@5:25 I've heard that the album was already written when Bon died, he was to sing on it, BUT the band said no it was written AFTER he died & was a tribute to him. I've always thought it sounded WAY too much like a Bon album!
