    This fixed my hot water low flow issue, here in Florida, where we have hard water due to all the limerock. I have flexible pipes connected to the hot water heater (boiler) and the output one had less than 1/16th of an inch (about 2mm) of an opening. The sediment was literally rock hard and I tried to drill it out using a masonry bit but couldn't clear it completely so ended up replacing the pipe. What a difference it made so many thanks for the useful information.

    The last couple of weeks I’ve noticed our hot water pressure has gone quite low. However, we have a combi boiler and do not live in a hard water area. During the winter I have to deliberately run the tap half full, so as to heat the water enough through the combi to get the water hot for a bath. However, it now runs at half the rate, even with the tap turned fully on.

    Hi, you are spot-on there at two minutes. I had exactly the same problem. However it was about the TEE feeding out and away to some 15 mm pipe. Some scale and black in colour, was removed. If some broke off earlier I suspect it's travelled further down through some bends into downstairs kitchen where the water flow is poor.
    So what if you are improving your home do you replace all the pipes in the hot feeds?
    Now how to dissolve the stuck scale, could you use say radiators cleaner or so mild acid and leave it to soak somehow ? Rig up some container and fill said restricted hot water pipe and drain into bucket having removed from taps and then seal off for 12 hours.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  4 месяца назад

      Best just to renew the pipes, the only thing that can get rid of stuck limescale is Acid.
      You will find it is just the pipes near the cylinder that will be contaminated so no need to renew all the hot feed.

  • @fionnan2811

I do however have hot water pressure from the sink in my laundry room in the basement and from the sinks on the first floor of my home. Hi, I am not very knowledgeable in regards to where the hot water on and off switches are in my home. I had shut off my main water switch because I was trying to repair my dryer. I also had to shut off the hot water, under the sink, because I was experiencing a leak with one of the faucets that went to my washing machine (I have a stackable washer and dryer). I had turned many valves, even on the hot water heater, because of this problem. I eventually had to have a plumber come in and repair the leak. However, after I turned all the faucets back on (at least I think I did this) my shower is not supplying hot water like it used to. I have to put the dial all the way to the hot side and i can tell that it is just the hot water now. It comes out with very little pressure and when I go to get some cold the pressure is stronger, but it gets very cold. It was not doing this before. I think it might be because of all the things I turned or didn't turn. I need someone to go over all this with me. I had turned something that said, "cold water" off on my electric heater, but I'm sure I corrected that when the plumber left. I turned the one under the sink back on. I turned it more this morning, thinking that might be the cause of all this. I will see how it goes. I can't figure out what I did wrong to create this!!!

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  8 лет назад

      Make sure every tap you turned off is all the way back on as far as you can turn them, especially any hot ones, then go back to the main stopcock under the sink and turn it off, open your cold sink tap and turn the stopcock just a half or quarter turns so that as it comes out of the sink tap, it is not too fast but fast enough.

Cylinder was replaced 2 years ago, but didnt improve things. My hot water pipe from cylinder goes up to the loft floor before dropping down into the upstairs bathroom and then downstairs. Hello
    Are you saying the whole cylinder needs to come out? If that's the case you are saying a professional person such as a plumber is required? It seems that's the platform l am having because the water is not circulating through all the radiators in the house and there is low water pressure from the tap in the taps upstairs. If l have to get a plumber to carry of the repairs how much do you think it would cost on average?
    You response will be appreciated.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  2 года назад

      No the whole cylinder does not need to come out. If you have a blockage it would only be in the bit of pipe coming out of the top of the cylinder. if you are having trouble with rads not circulating that is a different problem. Check your pump, have you balanced your heating system? Have you had the heating system cleaned? You may have low pressure upstairs because you are tank fed.

I have an economy 7 immersion heater which is probably over 20 years old, is it straight forward to unscrew the hot water exit pipe at the top to check for a blockage, I would not want to unscrew and damage something and be left with a leak, or is it a simple job for a DIYer like me, thanks.

    Recently my hot water taps started running slowly until it stops. At first I thought it was an airlock and I followed the steps in one of your other videos. That did not work so I called a plumber. My house is really old and the plumber told me it is rust in the pipes and I will have to get all the pipes replaced. This is the pipes in the walls.This does not make sense. If it's rust in the pipes inthe walls then surely hot water should run form at least one of the taps because the pipes split in the roof to go to the bathroom and kitchen. When I open a tap the water runs for a bit and then slows down and then stops completely. This seems to be the only explanation for the problem I am having.

    Hi, great video. I've a blockage somewhere. I unscrewed the hot water pipe at the wall and turned the cold water tap back on and the water ran freely from the hot pipe. So there must be a blockage in the hot pipe IN the wall (it's not accessible) Any idea how I can sort it? Thanks a million!

    • @dereton33

      See if you can blast some mains pressure water through the pipe that is in the wall to clear it. Otherwise a pressure wash may be the best bet.

    Hi there, so sorry to bother you. I hope all is well. I've been searching and searching ...
    I'm hoping you would be able to help us please.
    We have a 5 year old combi boiler, the hot water pressure is not what it used to be and is lower at all faucets.
    We have been experiencing this for a couple of months now.
    Cold water is near 10 L/Min and hot is almost 6 L/Min.
    The pressure drops quickly and then it remains constant.
    The boiler was serviced very recently and the supply pipe along with an old metal pipe in the property were also updated. All of the above was done to improve the situation but unfortunately it's still the same and I'm not sure what else could be done.
    I would really appreciate it if you could give us any advice please 🙏.
    Kind regards

      Check you have good pressure from the cold tap on the sink. If not check that the main stopcock is fully on. Then check for any isolation valves feeding the mains to the boiler, if there is remove it and fit a coupling. If you still have a problem then the 3 way valve in the boiler could be at fault not switching full on when hot water is called for.

      Turn off the gate valve by the side of the tank. Check the hot water is off by running a tap. Drain a small amount of water out of the tank using the drain valve then undo the fitting on top of the tank. Undo a fitting above on the same pipe or saw through and use a coupling to reconnect. I turned off the cold feed to the immersion tank via the gate valve to change bathroom taps and turned the valve back on once complete, now I have no water (hot or cold) from any of the hot taps in the house. My suspicion is the gate valve has failed and cannot fill the immersion tank. Is there anyway to test this theory, maybe draining down the tank and see if the roof thank fills up?
    I know the ball valve in the tank is ok as I can hear it filling when using the gravity fed cold water taps and have used the airlock method to see if that was the problem to no avail. Any ideas?

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  6 лет назад

      If you have no cold water from the bathroom taps then the gate valve is broken and will need replacing, if you have no cold or hot water then it is an airlock, or the roof tank valve is not filling.

    • @calorgaz
      @calorgaz 6 лет назад

      dereton33 Thanks for the reply. The 22mm gate valve I closed only feeds the hot water tank, the cold to the taps/shower is fed from a separate 15mm hence why I can hear the roof tank filling when I run these. I'll try draining the cylinder and see if it refills but I'm thinking the gate valve has failed in the closed position.

    Interesting drawing, a vent doesn't just rise from the tank like that, if you plumb a tank in like that you'll be chucking money down the drain, hot water rises on gravity so as you heat the tank up you'll be loosing temperature of the water inside the tank because it will keep rising, hence the 450mm before the first tee to the vent, so please don't plumb up a tank like this

      You can remove the plate heat xchanger and treat it with a substance that eats scale, depnding how old the boiler is, a new one is quite dear, ( plate xchanger ) and only a trained person should do it, so labour costs also, wiegh it up against a new boiler, you should get so many litres per minute at a certain temperature at the taps, this can be measured with a wier cup, and checked in the boiler manuel, or try turning the mains inlet down a bit to let the boiler have a chance to heat the water if you mains pressure is high, good luck

    I have a question for you. I have an issue with only my kitchen faucet. There are air chamber tubes on each shut off valve under the kitchen sink. Also a brand new hot water tank I installed which is directly under the kitchen. There are obviously 2 pipes going to the kitchen sink, both pipes are roughly 10 ft long from the tank to the kitchen faucet. So my issue, so I thought was the diverter in the faucet. So to rule this out, I removed the cold water supply hose and pointed it in a bucket, water came out smooth. So I took the hot water supply hose, disconnected it from the faucet and put it in the bucket and turned the valve on, the water is spitting and spraying then goes to a thin stream when I turn the water up full blast. So my guess is whoever sweated the valves on possibly over heated the hot water shut off valve and destroyed the rubber seal inside the shut off valve. I cant think what else it could be. Does this sound right to you before I go and cut off the valve and replace it? I like to add none of the other faucets in the house does this.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  6 лет назад

      It is more likely to be the tap, it has probably unscrewed on the left hand thread inside the tap. Here is the link to do it. ruclips.net/video/MqOi1S_ophI/видео.html

    • @DaPainterDude
      @DaPainterDude 6 лет назад

      It cant be the faucet. I originally thought it was as well. I disconnected both water supply hoses from the kitchen faucet. The cold water supply hose runs fine on low, med, and high when holding the hose in a bucket under the sink. Then when I take the hot water supply hose of the faucet and turn the valve on, the water sprays, splatters, and when I turn the valve open all the way, the water turns into a pencil line stream of water. It has to be the valve cuz its happening while the supply hoses are disconnected from the faucet. It only does it on the hot water side,. I can see these valves were recently replaced. Not to mention whoever replaced the valves used cheap plastic handle valve which I cracked the handle in half when turning the water off.

    • @DaPainterDude
      @DaPainterDude 6 лет назад

      I'd like to ad, I truly admire you. I love your videos. You are very knowledgeable. Please dont be offended by me not agreeing. I just went and watched the link you sent me. THat's not the issue. The faucet is 4 months old. The knobs turn freely with no problem. I removed both supply hoses from the faucet side. I left the supply hoses connect to the shut off valves. Cold water is fine. The hot water side is where the issue is. I can literally feel the hose in my hand vibrating and spitter and sputtering. To rule out it wasnt a bad supply hose. I took the cold water supply hose from the valve. Then I removed the hot water supply hose from the hot water valve and put the cold water supply hose on and it still makes all of the sputtering and spitting/ hissing sound. So this tells me it's not the supply hose, its not the faucet, that just leaves the valve. I can tell the copper work under there is fairly new. Ive had the house for a year. I ddn't do the plumbing work under the sink. However I replaced the faucet because the old faucet was doing the same thing. New faucet, same problem.
      Also I'd like to add it's a mixer tap. One handle to turn on the water, push to the left for hot or move the arm to the right for cold water.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  6 лет назад

      Ah right, in that case try renewing the valve first.
