Mayor London claims she’s cracked down on homelessness, built more affordable housing, and prioritized public safety, but how could it possibly be true? Crime, drug use, and homelessness are everywhere and the problems are getting worse! I’ve lived in San Francisco for 20 years, and it’s never been this bad.
The rise in property values and in rent is the worst it has ever been. The City needs money and besides we have a limited amount of space. Also, the idea of middle class rent is based on the medium income (AMI) for the region. There's a lot of high salaried people here now. Affordable rent is a factor of $8,741 per person. I don't know many people who make that amount.

Im new to the city from Boston and I agree with your sentiment. Definitely not more of the same with Breed. The open drug use/dealing and jobs are hard to come by, the housing is insanely pricy. Lurie is currently my number one just because he seems most closely aligned with my progressive views and talks a bit about climate change and public transit. But I think Ahsha Safai is a close number one for me. He seems very rooted and experienced, and has a real connection to immigrants, labor and wants to clean things up so those in lower and middle-class can survive here. Farrell is a bit aggressive on policing. I feel as though cops need to be trained more on dealing with those with mental health issues, physical drug dependencies and lack of means to a successful life. We certainly need to lock up the fentanyl dealers and criminalize open usage of so called controlled substances. We don’t need to alienate and villainize users, but meet them with compassion and understanding. In that vein, we cannot continue funding harm reduction alone, having users OD, enter the emergency room with no care and leave the next day. We need to organize our communities around a wholistic approach with the basic necessities produced as locally, affordably and efficiently, so that we can live affordable lives and relieve some stress in the meantime. There needs to be an overall focus more on quality jobs I think. I’m new to the city and I was a crew leader for a large residential landscaping company, fairly high end too. And I worked for the Boston Red Sox for most home games on their Grounds Crew. I moved here in mid August, it is now early almost mid October. I’ve been turned away from two landscaping companies that I thought I was qualified for and had whole trial days for and a third job that I had several interviews for. The hundreds of applications online have mostly gone unnoticed. The job market is tough everywhere, it was in Boston at times. But I just want to make an impact and do good work, but it’s like companies are reluctant because perhaps there is too much of a financial and liability burden with all the regulations in the state and locally. We need reform in a lot of areas, but we need to do some serious reworking of laws to make it more labor AND small business-owner friendly. I have hope and trust the city will turn around. I came here so my partner can leap into a career springboard of a job here in SF and we somehow found a place we can maybe almost afford. So the job market can work for some. But we need it to work for those without a degree like myself who might not work in an office. As a sustainable gardener and native plant enthusiast, I think there needs to be a larger focus on green spaces here. There are soooo many gardens that are walkable. BUT there are still endless opportunities to bring native and other climate-change tolerant plants to the city. Why not more community gardens, open to EVERYONE?? Logistics are tough but it doesnt take an army. It takes a dedicated, trained staff, cohesive squad, who learn every day to find and create growing conditions and spaces for a healthier community, for a safer and more productive community. Sustainable agriculture, and sustainable living IS the productive and life-sustaining, market growing, natural capital multiplier that our grandparents knew about. Don’t forget about our native communities who WERE stewards of the land. They were key stone species, fishing for oysters in the bay and only they know what else. But the controlled fires and nuanced slow approach to land management has been forgotten to concrete and WAYMO it seems. We need to start a public marketing campaign to re-educate ourselves about our forgotten reliance off the land! There was a time when we didn’t allow big box stores in , for the purpose keeping all the small businesses going. As you walk through the city, just notice how homes have those big windows on the ground floor. They’re everywhere. They all used to be small businesses. Fruit trees and vegetable gardens were not uncommon back then. We even used to have chickens in our yards. I don’t want to be mean but I noticed that our city started going downhill in the early 90’s when Silicon Valley attracted people from the east coast to come…and through their voting habits, we lost our city and find ourselves here. Please don’t vote the same as what you left. If that was so great, you would never have left.

All of these candidates are inauthentic. San Franciscans are priced out. Instead of promising affordable housing we need to slash the rents to 1995 levels and rebuild. The money we’re flushing down the toilet on homeless services should be redirected to support people who are contributing rather than people who are destroying the place. We also need to layoff all the senior level management in City Government and promote people who will fix this mess. We also need to turn the “everybody’s a victim” knob down and make the cable cars free for tourists and City residents and stop ripping everybody off when they come visit. All of these candidates are inauthentic. San Franciscans are priced out. Instead of promising affordable housing we need to slash the rents to 1995 levels and rebuild. The money we’re flushing down the toilet on homeless services should be redirected to support people who are contributing rather than people who are destroying the place. We also need to layoff all the senior level management in City Government and promote people who will fix this mess. We also need to turn the “everybody’s a victim” knob down and make the cable cars free for tourists and City residents and stop ripping everybody off when they come visit. The rest will take care of itself. If we continue with the same old bullshit the City will further deteriorate.

Lurie mostly faced the moderators when answering the questions. Not good. He needs to look directly at the audience. In regard to MUNI, more needs to be done so it's safe (too many crazies) and reliable. Fyi: I lived in SF for 50 years, seen many politicians running down our City to dirt level over the years. London & Peskin definitely gotta go. Lurie lacks experience, running SF City takes so much more than a rich parents who donated $1m into campaign. Safaí comprised on policies with Peskin? We need a tough leader to change SF drastically, not comprising just to stay in their cozy group of politicians.
