  • First early snow of the year! Had about 1" to 2" of snow. It was also pretty cold out so the packed snow was turning into ice. The tires did pretty good but coming from AWD the car didn't accelerate as good as I thought it would. But this being a PHEV the instant torque from the electric motors probably didn't help.

    Im looking at getting these for a 2008 saturn vue. Michigan winters can be a bit of fun. Would these be a good set trying to replace what I have that I don't like.

      @@nicolewares9803 These are amazing tires in the snow. You will have a lot more control and confidence driving in the snow. Night and day compared to regular all season tires.

    Getting a set of the Weathergrips installed on a 06' Grand Marquis. Will see how they do when the snow comes in a few months. Recently purchased the car to commute from Boise to Salt Lake. Boise to Mountain Home frequently gets ice/black ice. Heyburn, Idaho to Tremonton, Utah the snow can get fairly deep. There really isn't much on RUclips on testing of this tire. TFL car used them in one of their videos. The tire seemed to do well. On this car I only want to have one set of tires. On my wife's car I install a set of studded snow tires for the winter months.
    I had put on a set of All season tire on an 84' Escort and they were great. Drove from south central Tennessee to Pittsburgh, PA. on a regular basis for a while on weekends. Put the same tire on a 78" T-bird and the traction was awful. Hopefully the WG tire will do well.

      These tires did great with fwd. But I do miss AWD. The Firestone at2 on my Explorer were a beast in the snow.

    Great video, sir. Thanks a lot. I may go with these for my Jeep Patriot here in Missouri. Not crazy winters by any means but I’d like more traction than my current all seasons which aren’t good in the snow and currently spin almost every time that I accelerate from a stop if there’s even just a little rain on the ground. The TireRack review said that they needed major improvement on wet surfaces but what’s your opinion? I’m hoping that they have a decent tread life VS. Dedicated winter tires. I don’t care too much about road noise.

    • @EverydayCars
      @EverydayCars  2 года назад

      The wet grip is amazing. Even with instant torque from an electric motor it takes a lot to get them to spin. The only thing I am worried about is the tread life. $900 dollar of tires I hope they last at least 50k miles.

    We live in an area that gets occasional snow in the winter. Just got our worst storm in 15 years with about a foot of snow in the valley where I drive. The mountains got 5 feet but we don't go up there in the winter. I was thinking of getting snow tires to swap in and out on our Subarus but then stumbled onto All-Weather. We currently ride All-Season on all 3 of our Subies but I think it's time to upgrade to All-Weather!

      Any All weather tire gives you more confidence in the snow. I wish I had AWD again. But having these tires on my car helps a ton in the snow. One you get all weather tires you will never go back to all seasons.

      @@EverydayCars Excellent to hear. I'm actually leaning towards the Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires for all 3 of my Subarus! They are 3 peak mountain snow rated as well.

    Why did you pick these tires instead of the Michelin Cross climate 2?

    • @EverydayCars
      @EverydayCars  2 года назад

      I just really like my Firestone AT2 on my Explorer so I stuck with Firestone. And the salesman at the tire shop said the Michelin were louder the the Firestone. I have driven through 7” of snow with a car with 5.5” of ground clearance and still made it through with no problems. These tires are awesome.

      @@EverydayCars the salesman was just trying to be like a salesman and telling you things about the other tires that are not true.
      I have a set of Crossclimate 2 on my Accord and found them to be great. I was debating between the Firestone, Michelin, and Goodyear all weather tires on black Friday. But as a result i saw that they were more videos of the Michelin on RUclips and for about the same price.
      One thing for certain, they're not noisy as what other people say or what the salesman was pitching in. They were a bit noisy than my previous tires in the rain, but I think it just how every new tire is since it's new rubber. Like wearing new shoes, you'll hear them squeak the first couple days until they're flexed.
      On dry roads, i think they were quieter than my previous tires. Disclaimer, i got the Michelins a day when it was raining, so that's why I found them a bit noisy but that eventually went away after the next rain day.

    On a KIA Niro HEV FWD with Micheline Crossclimate 2 this past winter in Canada with 1~15+ inch of unplowed snow, a rain + freezing rain + heavy snow day or in slush, I did not experience any of the slip you did on this video. Did not feel unsafe throughout the entire winter even though the tires were already installed and driven since March for 60 miles daily and still gets 52 MPG in the winter and 63.5 MPG in the summer. Did not feel I need to put on the X-Ice 3 snow tires I already have and ends up selling them.

    How would you compare these to regular all season tires?

    • @EverydayCars
      @EverydayCars  2 года назад +2

      A lot more traction on a slippery surface. Even turning in snow giving it gas it doesn’t spin the inside tire as much as an all season would.

    This video sucks... Here is why. You used an EV and constantly compared all wheel drive vs 2 wheel drive? Not much mention about the tires and nobody floors it in front of their garage or anywhere else where there is snow for that matter.

    • @EverydayCars
      @EverydayCars  2 года назад

      That wasn’t flooring it. And I was just surprised how much better AWD traction is from a dead stop. I was expecting having good snow tires and FWD to accelerate better then it did.

    • @frostasaurus2190

      Comparing to an AWD is important. I just switched to a FWD because I don't think I need an AWD where I live anymore. It's absolutely good to hear similar experiences.
