    Puts a smile on my face every time I see a positive review on this lovely airline. I’ll try not to be bias, I called Sri Lanka home for almost 3 years and I am a proud ex Sri Lankan airlines employee. In terms of what you pay for as a product delivered regardless of what the country and the airline have been going through, they’re solid! Again, I do not want to sound bias but the best lager beer I ever had in my life is Lion, it’s superior! and I believe they serve it onboard now. Aside of the airline, the country is a gorgeous paradise island and the Sri Lankan warmth and hospitality no words in dictionary could ever give them justice.

    I've been regularly flying around the globe since very early 1960s and, I've been fortunate to fly at the pointed end, just behind the driver, more times than I can remember. I've had just three flights that were truly memorable for all the right reasons, and two of the airlines will be a surprise to many. The first was with Libyan Arab Airlines, on a Boeing 727 long before the Civil War and eventual demise of Gadaffi or, any other violence. It was like a palace in the sky with service to match. The second was with Biman Bangladesh, the aircraft was an antique DC-10 I think, but, the Cabin crew were simply outstanding and, the food was incredible. My outstanding memory of that flight was the Chief Steward looking mortified at a cup of tea I'd just been served. "Excuse me Sir Your cup of Tea is not to the standard we serve, may I take it away and make you a fresh cup". And he very quietly educated the steward in the Galley on how to make a cup of Darjeeling.
    The last of the three was Sri Lankan on a brand new A340 flying from LHR to Colombo The cabin crew on that flight did everything except go outside to clean the windows mid-flight.
    And for the sake of fairness I've flown with many of todays world leading carriers receiving excellent service but, I've also received some bloody awful service in the last few years.

    I think we needed a "thank you" counter on this one Noel. 🤣 Being half Scottish, half Sri Lankan myself I've been there several times. The airline with the seaplane is known as Cinnamon Air & I've flown them a few times and are very decent for what they offer, they actually have their own terminal at Colombo airport. I have a few videos on them if you want to take inspiration.

    Gulab Jamun is like small doughnuts, deep fried and then soaked in rose water syrup or similar syrup. Usually served without the creamy sauce but depending as there are so many types by region, country or an old family recipe. The alu muttar (dried pea and potato curry) is my favourite. Sometimes they add eggplant. The tomato pilau rice - it's like a spicy rice risotto you can have vegetarian or add chicken or mutton. I learned to make all these dishes from my Indian inlaws...me a Kiwi girl. Now I'm addicted to curry and pilau etc and must have it once a week.

    This is why love the channel.. not everything is first class.. so ya fly on both of those aircraft. I will never get to experience them but I can imagine if I did by you videos.. and it's not about the flight.. it's the journey in the hotels and the local community.. my favorite videos will always be the winter video in Wyoming.. it was so cool. I wish for more of that

    Sri Lanka is one of my favorite places to go on Holiday, lovely place and worth a visit or two =)
    Never flown business class, but in economy class, my experience is: The older the seats, the more comfortable they are, because in economy they try to save every ounce of cushioning and with every passing year I expect wodden seats more....

    That strange looking connector next to your seat is an RCA connevctor-- a non - balanced output for your (headphones i guess??)

    • @benscripps
      @benscripps 4 месяца назад +5

      A yellow collar on an RCA connector typically indicates it's for composite video; presumably you can hook up a video source (portable DVD player, laptop, etc.) and display it on the seat-back monitor.

    That round connection point looks like we used to call a pin plug. You would find zillions of them used to
    connect stereo equipment in the 60's through the 90's at least. My 14 year old Pioneer receiver has them.

    Naan more commonly found in the punjab/pakistan/bangladesh regions but still found if you ask all over the sub-continent. The roti you had on the second flight is very Sri Lankan (Gotamba roti). The term roti is the umbrella terms for types of bread throughout the sub-continent all different by the way they are made (types of flour and cooking method).
