Your Uber driver told the copper that you were late for your flight and that's why he was speeding 😂
Exactly 👍
Fun fact: you can speed as much as you want within Colombo city limits as long as you don't break other road rules.
😅
I'll take an outdated cabin with a good crew and food any day of the week over a shiny new cabin with lackluster service and food.
Depends on length of flight. On short haul: absolutely!
@@RoamingHeathen You guys a both mad, outdated cabin =outdated aircraft= outdated maintenance. Even if the problem is minor, you cant exactly get out and check whats under the bonnet.
@@timothymacintyre9271there’s no thing as an outdated aircraft that’s legal to fly. They’re constantly inspected by maintenance and kept in compliance with the regulations.
Iraqi Airways anyone?
@timothymacintyre9271 Not necessarily. An airline may want to spend more on keeping their planes in pristine condition rather than spending more on a new cabin. Plus there's plenty of 25+ year old planes with new cabins
Gosh...143 times mister said thank you 😂
I just said that if i took a shot for every time he said thank you id be dead and this just confirms thats
You can never get enough thank yous now days when so many don't even say it once lol. Noel is always extra polite, a nice way to be. I am impressed you counted lol, but I believe you which means I don't have to count!
@@mamasinger49 no panic was a joke like, it's nice to be nice
He’s British, lol.
@@user-qf4si1jc5k I know it was a joke, no worries, thus why the lol in the response because I thought your message was funny
No such thing as too many thank yous. I will take this as a lesson in manners. Thank you!
Yep, doesn't cost you anything.
Thank you!
Stop bum licking you don’t need to say thank you 145 times
Mhmm
Sri Lanka is just such a wonderful country. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Service is 5 star everywhere you go. The food is great and the sights are bucket list-level class! Highly recommend a visit!
I think we needed a "thank you" counter on this one Noel. 🤣 Being half Scottish, half Sri Lankan myself I've been there several times. The airline with the seaplane is known as Cinnamon Air & I've flown them a few times and are very decent for what they offer, they actually have their own terminal at Colombo airport. I have a few videos on them if you want to take inspiration.
Yeah the amount of thank yous is actually getting grating. Can't you halve the amount of thank yous at least?
Sri lankan from your mom side or dad? Kinda curious lol
Loads of curries . Excellent . Never been to Sri Lanka . Lived in Singapore twice
@@muazunais2378 Fathers side
I’m a half myself! My other half is Irish though. I’ve also worked on the Sri Lankan Airlines IFE program for their aircraft fleet. My GF designed the IFE. They are outdated and bit. Safran IFE system. We’ve left the company now but hopefully they update to the latest from Safran. They have some solid products.
Those lovely Sri Lankan female airline employees are so polite it's sublime! Great flight Noel!
Naan bread is from Northern India, South India & Sri Lanka tend to have lighter, rice based Bread
Definitely more muslim areas and countries, Pakistan and more northern countries, UK loves a naan cooked in a tandoor hopefully next to meat on the spit
One could describe it as non-naan bread
what is roti then ?

Noel, as a fellow Brit, pouring that much milk in your tea was criminal
😂😂😂
Yeah, that was more like milk with some tea in it!
I flew with Sri Lankan airlines last year (in economy). Their hospitality was impeccable, however you could tell the age of the cabins. My seat failed to recline, and the passenger next to me didn't have a working screen.
Yeah they’re slightly broke especially after the pandemic. They need a serious fund boost to refurbish their aircraft.
Puts a smile on my face every time I see a positive review on this lovely airline. I’ll try not to be bias, I called Sri Lanka home for almost 3 years and I am a proud ex Sri Lankan airlines employee. In terms of what you pay for as a product delivered regardless of what the country and the airline have been going through, they’re solid! Again, I do not want to sound bias but the best lager beer I ever had in my life is Lion, it’s superior! and I believe they serve it onboard now. Aside of the airline, the country is a gorgeous paradise island and the Sri Lankan warmth and hospitality no words in dictionary could ever give them justice.
It has occurred to me that, internationally, we “Anglos” are so fortunate to have people speak and have signage in the English language.
Thank you!
The world needs one language, we are lucky but it was no accident.. empire etc. I struggled in Ukraine working with the different letters too. We are lucky countries accommodate English.
less "fortunate" and more "benefiting from centuries of colonisation, forced famine and oppression" to cause this. None of which is your fault of course, but it is important to be aware of the true history and acknowledge it
@@tryingmybest206 I don’t think anyone cares. Not sure we got an apology off the Vikings or Roman’s. Very easy to judge past with modern mindset. I’m proud of our empire as are the Romans/mongals/vikings. The cast system holds you back more. And your entitied middle class.
@@tryingmybest206I agree that acknowledging history is very important. Great perspective.
Very good value for those flights in business class. Another entertaining review. Recently Noel has tried to check in his sausage, eaten some tasty balls in white cream and been massaged by his chair. A lot of thank yous for sure - but being polite with immigration, hotel staff, Uber drivers and FAs is no bad thing - especially when they are being friendly and helpful.
Given that Sri Lanka's recovering from economic catastrophe, think the service was remarkable.
Sounds like that massage chair had a 'prostate' option.
😂
1. Cough
2. Push seat button
3. Relax
Sri Lankan Airlines is a reflection of the Sri Lankan people. They are normally incredibly kind and hospitable.
Thank you!
Least when they aren’t chasing out their government😂😂😅
That looks like an RCA plug for composite analog video on that A330, thanks for another fascinating set of flights!
There used be a system called EM that disappeared after they installed regular 220/120 plugs on planes. That’s definitely a yellow RCA for video but how does it integrate with entertainment system is good question.
I never got pulled over in Uber but I got pulled over for rental car shuttle before they got the tram system installed at ORD.
@@frankchan4272 I think the RCA ports are for plugging in say a portable DVD player into the IFE. I've seen them on Virgin Atlantic's older A330s in premium economy and I believe older interior Emirates A380s still have them too. Obviously during refurbishment they're always removed, because who uses a portable DVD player anymore!
An RCA plug which requires a CINCH cable. Generation X knows 😬😑
Looks like CVBS.
I don't know how you can visit Sri Lanka and not spend at least one day checking out the spectacular train journeys! Oh well, next time. Great watch, cheers.
That really is a surprising business class. Why is there never anyone on the plane with him, he seems to never get a full flight. Anytime I fly it is jammed packed.
he probably flys during the offseason, cause it allows him to properly review the service. and not disturb as much people

Hi Noel i enjoy your videos i just wanted to say that you talk to people so nicely. Just The number of thank you and Hello s as you boarded ,it's just so nice. Not everyone is like this these days. I appreciate it. ❤
As a Canadian I appreciate all the thank yous
Sore-ray!
Definitely would love to see you exploring Sri Lanka. It is a fantastic country and the people are so friendly.
I'm sure the spoon placement wasn't intentional on your dessert 😂😂
I caught that, too. 😚☺Noel, you teenager, you. 🏀🏀

Noel is, without a shadow of a doubt, the politest travel RUclipsr. He's the kind of guy who'd thank the turbulence for giving him a little extra adventure!
😂
Not surprising Sri Lankan would have a good range of tea options, Sri Lanka does produce some of the best tea on the planet.
1:55 Great shot of Noel doing his best impression of a Galapagos turtle on a Sir David Attenborough documentary. 🤣
😂😂😂
Fun fact, super dry is not s Japanese brand, but one from Gloucester in uk. They made the glous rugby kit for quite a while
“Balls”and “dangly bits” 😂😂😂
It's balls with white cream :D
Gotta love Noel's hidden (subtle) quirks and jokes.
😆 was it a coincidence the way he had that dessert spoon sitting??
Noel, I really ❤ your utter politeness . Honestly, it's refreshing hearing such kindness and manners in all your videos since becoming a Subscriber....we need more of that nowadays 👍🤘🥳. People have forgotten how please and thank you go a long way or maybe I'm just old school...50 isn't that old though 🤔🧐😁 lol. ❤ Your channel and content 🎉.
You are so kind
"We're going down" is something I would probably never want to say on an airplane.
I love how Noel just really enjoys the simple things. The food on airlines is not the best but I just love the "hmm it's quite nice". Reminds me to just be humble and make the best of what we get.
Howling at him using the massage function 😂 "That is not the kind of massage I want on this flight"
This was incredible business class. The lounge in India looked amazing. The flight ✈️ looked amazing to Sri-Laken. The hotel 🏨 was looking good. Amazing Trip & Awesome Experience. Definitely worth it if you have a chance to visit. Much love Noel & safe travels on your journey.
Many thanks Noel for flying Sri Lanka. I have always found that the crew make up for the outdated product. Always found the crew excellent
I went out with Sri Lankan, beautiful country and wonderful people. Same for India too, I adore the place and even my Indian mates in the uk are The most friendly, hospitable and nicest of people. I like the look of Delhi airport.. but I am glad that you had zero hassle with security. Absolutely love ❤ your channel and your videos Noel, safe journeys mate, you’re such a cool, lovely human, always good vibes from you.
Those women in SriLanka are all so pretty. That 'escort' you had that walked you to the gate is absolutely stunning.
Wow 🤩 Indian 🇮🇳 Airport looks Amazing & first world ! 🤩 ❤ from 🇵🇰 PS: Kisses 😘& Hugs 🤗 to Sri Lankan 🇱🇰 the most friendly & smiling ☺️ People.
Love this ep very much. Please do more flights from Colombo to other places. This airline has all the feels and great service. I’m sure they use the less up to date aircraft on shorter trips. I just watched a Business class flight review from Melbourne to Colombo and it was fabulous. I’d fly on any Sri Lanka aircraft. Thanks for this ❤❤❤
Gulab Jamun is like small doughnuts, deep fried and then soaked in rose water syrup or similar syrup. Usually served without the creamy sauce but depending as there are so many types by region, country or an old family recipe. The alu muttar (dried pea and potato curry) is my favourite. Sometimes they add eggplant. The tomato pilau rice - it's like a spicy rice risotto you can have vegetarian or add chicken or mutton. I learned to make all these dishes from my Indian inlaws...me a Kiwi girl. Now I'm addicted to curry and pilau etc and must have it once a week.
Sri Lanka Air has always been a really good, and often pretty cheap, option. Even going back 20-25 years when I lived and worked in Delhi and Bangalore. Never have I had any issues with security at any Indian airport. The only pain in Colombo is the distance from the airport to the city centre. And gulab are the greatest dessert on the planet!!!!
I have always had Superdry down as "a brand only an influencer would wear, and badly", aka "a brand that nobody needs thank you very much". So astonished to see someone who does obviously have a brain like it.
At those complaining about saying thank you. It's a simple courtesy, and it makes the people you're dealing with feel their work isn't taken for granted. And as for the frequency it happens in these videos, well, especially in travel and hospitality you depend on a ton of people to do their work, so you can enjoy your trouble free trip. It never hurts to keep that in mind
As a Sri Lankan thank you for your positive comments about the national airline and about Sri Lanka. Totally agree about the outdated aircrafts. hope you had a chance to taste Sri Lankan pineapples.
Love sri lankan. My parents were both born and raised in sri lanka.
I used to fly through Colombo to COK or TVM back when it was Air Lanka and they had the L-1011 Tri-Star. Good memories and fun times. Air Lanka gave you a room at a resort for your connection when heading back to LGW. But then you had to take the bus to LHR to catch the then Continental 747 back to IAH. I was younger but those are memories that I still remember of my young aviation journeys.
Watching this as my wife and I plan out trip to Tasmania. Just purchased snake proof gaiters for my hiking, and my wading boots. Something I never thought I would ever type. It must be nice to be Noel Philips. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. 😊
Sri Lankan subscriber here. Waited a long time for this!
I cracked up laughing about him enjoying his balls lolol! Everyone was courteous and professional! I'd take a outdated plane to enjoy the wonderful crew! The gentlemen at the tshirt shop, they sure enjoyed their time with you! Now that Earl Grey tea, it has to be so delicious!
10:52 - interesting food presentation there....mmmm..... LOL.
but no sausage related Noël facts😕😕😕
Wow! The Sri Lankan people that you encountered were so nice. Great trip, you should go back for a lengthier visit. I wish the best for you and your family- You’re the greatest at this Noel! Thank You.
Amazing how the voice doing the announcement in the Departure Lounge about the Lucknow flight being cancelled uses exactly the same tone of voice as that used in UK train stations to cancel trains 😂.
Another top video Noel - 'Carry on' as ever with the great content
Thanks for this Noel . I was finding today ( Sunday) to be a boring one on the tele then i found u had done this & u know what a big fan i am of your vlogs xx
Naan is more of north indian style with curry, west india prefers bhakri & roti, south and east india prefers curry & rice.. though south india has one of best breads malabari parathas that you should try
You should team up with Josh Cahill again for a look around Sri Lanka.
I flew the A330-300 last week to CMB and flying it again tomorrow. It's a big improvement on the one you flew. Plus I agree! Loveliest cup of tea in the sky! It was my first time flying it and I was pleasantly surprised. Wonderful flight crew as well.
Wow, the ground staff, security, and crew are polite and friendly. Loads of Airport and airlines can definitely take notes.
Naan more commonly found in the punjab/pakistan/bangladesh regions but still found if you ask all over the sub-continent. The roti you had on the second flight is very Sri Lankan (Gotamba roti). The term roti is the umbrella terms for types of bread throughout the sub-continent all different by the way they are made (types of flour and cooking method).
These Flatbreads are common in many cultures that use them as utensils.
Do a passport tour and show us all those interesting stamps you collect!
I've only got one stamp in my passport. That was because the system to scan it was down. The rest of the time it's electric. That being said I just go between the US and Australia but I'd think most countries by now use that system.
@@paulcoinc The Five Eyes countries do indeed avoid stamping, as do some countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and a handful of others. But the vast majority of countries still stamp. Stamping is on the way out, but they're still here for now and fun to see!
That strange looking connector next to your seat is an RCA connevctor-- a non - balanced output for your (headphones i guess??)
A yellow collar on an RCA connector typically indicates it's for composite video; presumably you can hook up a video source (portable DVD player, laptop, etc.) and display it on the seat-back monitor.
These videos are cathartic ❤ I used to travel the world, I miss it
15 years on and still Sri Lankan airlines have issues with their flight on board systems. I'd be surprised if that wasn't the same plane I flew from Heathrow a long time ago...
Agree on their service, despite the awful plane we flew on, the crew tried to make the best of it. Not an airline I've looked at flying since when going to watch the cricket.
Lovely part of the world, even if the driving standards are terrifying.
Can't agree more, as a Sri Lankan who actually tries to follow road rules and common courtesy. However, whenever I do a trip to India, it puts things in perspective. That's when I realize that no matter how chaotic Sri Lankan roads are, they are amateur level compared with India!
The whole video thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you
The massage seat made me laugh 😂😂😂😂
Watching from Uganda 🇺🇬
This video missed one think Noel..... a "thank you" count on the screen 😂
Anyways thanks for your British humility. Great video
Great to see a Ugandan watching
I’m from Canada (Dual UK Citizen) and I’m Immigrating to Uganda in February 2025.
Looking forward to it.
You had a bit of fun with that seat. Had me giggling.
Sri Lanka is a stunning island. Had two fab visits there.
Hey Noel! Thank you. 🙏 When I was a kid I used to have no idea how to pronounce Gulab Jamen - so we called it GlubJub
That was the first time I see it in a cream sauce
I always get it in the Golden Coloured Syrup. #Yum!
I never realised how many double entendre you make Mr Phillips ... and I think it's safe to say we now know you love a curry 😂😂
Great to see you have a positive experience with an airline. To me one of the scariest parts is going through security in a foreign country. Glad the security was nice too. At least you found your favorite clothing store where you got extra clothes for the next days travel. Safe travels and God bless you and your family.
Nice video again I flew with Srilankan 3 weeks ago in Business and I was very happy as always. My favourite tea is the peppermint tea. Awesome service on all 4 legs.
This cup of tea made you feel at home
Also a tip if you fly into Heathrow, Book Terminal 4 Premier Inn, they have runway view rooms which literally look out onto the runway at Heathrow, it’s really fun to watch them
Our best holiday ever. Sri Lanka is so beautiful & the people are great. Couldn’t fault the place.
Take a shot every time Noel says "Thank You". I'm currently in hospital today in the ED recovering from alcohol poisoning 😅😂🤣
I mean atleast he's polite and not being rude 🤷👍
We flew from Heathrow to Sydney via Columbo back in 2001. Great crew
It's nice to see them making improvements in airport security!
Noel. I’ve been watching you for such a long time and can’t emphasize how much I love your videos. Look forward to them every week. I really hope you don’t change your style because it’s absolutely perfect at the moment
Wow, thank you!
Noel. That Hilton saved my backside a few years ago and got me to the airport in record time. Hopefully one day we can meet and I'll tell you all about it. James
Naan bread is only available if your grandmother is doing the cooking!!
Your manners are impeccable Noel and your reaction to the massage seat was typically .....British , ooh arr Mrs
Me from Sri Lanka and your India airport that me went to Canada to India and Sri Lanka last distenesn is Italy 😅
Another interesting Video 👍 Sit back, relax and watch Noel flying 😅
Glad you enjoyed
The way I forgot you were in Delhi when you checked out at superdry and thought “this man just spent $1000 on clothes”. Forgot about the rupee 😂😂
The standard of human service you saw there was simply incredible. Well done everyone!
I flew back when they were called Air Lanka from LHR to MAA via Columbo. Their service was fabulous, they attended to us in coach class as if everyone was in First class.
Refreshing to be ready for war in checking in and in reality everyone being nice. Oh my that Loo review shirt.
Naan is really North Indian tandoori restaurant food. It's not really a typical food outside of such restaurants.
Cool drinking game, take a shot every time he says thank you 😂😂😂
Amazing they served Drinks before Taxi or Take off.
Another brilliant video. After a chaotic day with the kids on holiday, kicking back with a beer and watching your latest adventure. Hope you end up back in UK/North West sometime soon. Thanks Noel.
Another great review. We flew LHR - Colombo return in business in February. They use A330-300 aircraft on this route, much newer and better hard product, but not the best. Service was excellent.
Keep up the good work, always look forward to Sundays!
I have honestly watched the bit with you and the massage function a thousand times. It’s so bloody funny
I just flew Sri Lankan from Colombo to Singapore on an A330 4 days ago and had reverse herring bone seats... I never knew Sri Lankan had this old 2-2-2 config until I saw your video!
That seat connectio looked like the old RCA ..points....Red ..yellow and white plugs.. 😂
Woah, I haven't had to go through bag scanners to enter a hotel since the months after the wake of the vegas tragedy in 2017

"Not the sort of massage I'm after on a flight" :):):)
Back when I was only 5 years old, my parents sister and I travelled to Sri Lanka. It was 1986 (foreshadowing…) and I don’t remember much of the first day of our unexpectedly long stay at Gatwick, but I certainly remember trying to check in only to be ushered off to some back office room. My Dad went off to chat to the Air Lanka folks, and returned to tell us that the “plane had a minor repair that needed fixing” and we would need to wait until the following day before it arrived from Sri Lanka. I remember lots of people shouting, and lots of people panicked and crying. 5 year old me thought they were really sad that they would miss a day of their holiday. The next day we returned, only to go through much the same as the day before, though there were lot less people, and Air Lanka upgraded us to a nicer hotel, assuring us that the next day we would we flying out. Day 3 at Gatwick followed the usual pattern, though this time we got upgraded to the Hilton (it was the fanciest hotel I’d ever stayed at, I was super excited). After 3 nights at Gatwick we finally got to leave on day 4. I slept through most of the flight, which is somewhat surprising given the insane turbulence we experienced. I woke up to the sight of fellow passengers injured and bleeding, and it seems the flight crew had given up on trying to keep the non smoking section (remember those?) actually non smoking. We finally arrived at Colombo, where we realised we were never seeing our luggage again, and had a really lovely holiday.
20 odd years later and an episode of Air Crash Investigation led to the discovery that the plane that never arrived had been bombed by terrorists. I’m grateful my Dad chose to shield us from the traumatic truth of the situation, but I’m haunted by the memories of the agonised people leaving that meeting the first day at Gatwick, presumably some of whom had come to greet loved ones from a flight that would never arrive.

Those red balls that you saw they were a Indian traditional sweet that was glab jamun and I’ve been to a Indian restaurant and it tasted just like honey but warm
