Excellent, balanced review. Not the 'Karen' type. Srilankan is trying hard to offer a good level of service, amidst many challenges. It was good to see them recording operating profits recently. Also on the positive side is the fact that they are adding three aircraft to their fleet shortly. There have been flight cancellations to allow them to attend to technical issues. They are known for the high calibre of their maintenance staff who work against many odds, in order to produce good results. Though flight cancellations and delays are bad, there are better than crashes or near crashes. To the airline's credit is the fact that there has not been even a minor injury to any passenger, since the inception of Air Lanka, the predecessor of Srilankan. The recent incident where a captain locked out the lady first-officer from the cockpit did not do any good to the image of the airline. Srilankan bagging a couple of awards in recent times is a healthy sign. As for the 'silly RUclipsr', the cabin crew member should not have used that term, but guess she was frustrated by a very entitled Karen who has made exaggerated criticisms of the airline. Same as you, I have been stopped twice while filming, but both times the crews made it clear what's allowed and what's not. One was on KE, where I was doing a shot of the cabin WITHOUT ANYBODY in sight, then a crew told me I can film but not their crews. I apologized, they backed down, and allowed me to take pics with them. Second was with CX and that was partially my fault. I was shooting the meal service and I accidentally pointed my camera towards her as I was picking up my tray (I usually do it discreetly so that the crew's face and other pax's face are a bit blurry). But she was the only one not willing to be filmed; others were okay with me doing so. I apologized, she only said OMG and left. But it's clearly sad to say that one bad apple can ruin it for everyone. This is partly the reason why I started asking for permission for filming since 2022. But even so, even American, that is so notorious for uber-enforcing their photography policy, wasn't even mad at me for filming... Flown CX twice, and filming wasn't an issue in the other flight. Indian flight crew and frankly Indian working outside the country have a lot of issue with making up "official rules" as they go. ❤❤❤❤As a Sri Lankan, I take pride in the dedication and professionalism of our flight captains and crew. They always strive to ensure the safety of every flight. However, the administration needs significant improvement. The planes are over 20 years old, and ticket prices are often higher than those of Singapore Airlines or Emirates. This situation is unacceptable. It's time for a change or to consider selling the airline.😒😒😒😒 On the other hand, filming and photography should not be banned inside the aircraft, as long as the privacy of other passengers and safety concerns are respected. In today's world, everyone has personal phones, and this is a basic expectation.😂😂😂😂😂

I flew in business class on the exact same flight but in an A330, they had a business line section but all of the economy class passengers kept skipping the line and going into the business class section which slowed down the process
I agree that the rebooking procedures are among the most cumbersome that I've experienced when compared to other airlines in the region, having encountered the similar situation nearly ten years ago when I was stranded in Kuala Lumpur. Throughout my numerous flights on Sri Lankan Airlines, the crew has always been very accommodating when it comes to filming onboard However, this is likely because of the frequent re-uploads made by this "silly RUclipsr," who goes all out with his constant complaining, which has gotten worse over the past few months In any case, I really like how straightforward and clear all of your reviews - undoubtedly a channel that inspires me to a great extent

Political corruption and misuse of financial resources and bad management has brought what was once a glorious airline to such a low. Sri Lankan used to be a great airline to fly before. On behalf of all Sri Lankans I apologize for the state of the airline, Kevin.
There is no need to apologize. This is in fact a good and fair review of Srilankan. There are both plus and minus points highlighted in this very professional review. The most significant factor was that Kevin was not allowed to film freely. Being very fair, he has not run down the airline.

Idk what happened to Sri Lankan airlines but when I went on their business class product on the A330, exact same flight I took multiple photos and videos. I feel some of the Sri Lankan airlines staff don’t want to be there anymore
Well, i remember this silly youtuber bashing a renowned Middle Eastern airline, saying that the cabin crew didn’t smile at him, didn’t take care of him being a business class passenger. But we can clearly see the cabin crew serving him every now and then in that video. Anything for views.
They’ve had some good TP runs from the Middle East to CGK, but I wouldn’t be booking one again given the high number of cancellations. Good crew and food though!
When you compare Madras with Calcutta airport it is so depressing. WB indeed is a very backward state - the airport is barely any more than a domestic terminal with barely anything. After security they have hardly any choice to eat and drink and was horrified to see a cup of tea was $7 AUD nearly!
Well Kevin, two things: 1. I see you've encounter the "problematic fellow youtuber" issue. Its unfortunate you were treated that like that, but in a way, I can't entirely blame SriLankan. I do have some sympathy for them. Why? It's not you that's the issue, its...shall we say, certain "flight reviewers" who act like a-holes, causing a nuisance to others onboard and so forth. I'm not going to name them, I think you know who those usual suspects are. You know what they say, it only takes a few bad apples to ruin it for the rest. That's why we can't have nice things. I don't know what the solution is, except just make sure you act with courtesy and consideration for others, not that you haven't done that. But maybe giving a compliment to the crew here and there...won't hurt. 2. How old are SriLankan A320s? Do they plan to replace them them all with A320neos? They do already have a few A320/A321neos in their fleet right?
I experienced the same thing last year.. with two cancelled flights from BOM on the same day. Then i was able to fly to Trivandum (air India) and take the Sri Lankan flight to CMB. But the person at the Mumbai office was very helpful on the rebooking. Please cut some slack. Sri Lankan went through alot and it seems like right people are at the right places managing the company now. Please give some time and they will bounce back.
"So many airlines" is entirely the point in my book lol. As for qualifications, I think about it nearly as much as how many accidents my Uber driver has had or how many of the drivers on the road are intoxicated while I cross the street. It's all relative.
Airlines business is not for everyone as not many can run them profitably. Yes, it will work as a subsidized organization that connects places but it won't earn any money
That’s why personally, I am of the opinion that countries need to do the following for things to improve. 1. Negotiate more open skies agreements 2. Negotiate more Code Share flights on new routes. 3. Offer easier visa procedures. 4. Sell unprofitable carriers to other Airlines. African carriers would be a prime example, of the most to benefit from these changes!
I have stopped watching nearly all flight reviews because of the negativity and endless complaining. However, if an airline were interested in providing an excellent experience they would welcome the feedback and improve where possible or necessary. Instead, some chose to "shoot the messenger."
Sneakers in airports = smooth walking shots. Look at my airport videos 2 years ago (when I wore flip flops) and you'll notice quite a lot of jarring "steps"... The only time I ever do actually wear sneakers these days is when I fly, becuase of it.
Nice ❤️ From 🇱🇰 Nah Josh is Cool person 😊 Sri lankan Need to think What Josh told...Do not Over do...persons need some documentaries. Thats need to allowed.
Yes was the silly RUclipsr Josh Cahill as isn't that where he lives or based out of Colombo, Sri Lanka. I know a couple people that have flown on Srilankanairlines and they said they were good for what you pay. Brisbane, Australia to Colombo, Sri Lanka RT like 1 1/2 years ago. Don't know what they paid, but like I said they said it was good for what you paid. They flew Economy not business like you,
Last year, I was flying from Colombo to MAA on an A330-300. Normally, I don't film the flight attendants, but while walking towards the door, I briefly lowered my camera and only filmed their feet. Suddenly, one of the crew members grabbed my camera and told me that I couldn't film. I was shocked by their rude behavior. After I landed at MAA, I made a complaint to the ground staff, but I don't believe any action was taken.
Yah, originally I was going to say "Queen's English"... but realized all that would do is get me 18 comments about colonization... so I went with "RP" assuming 97% of people wouldn't get it and being perfectly fine with that 😅
Putting restrictions on people filming never ends well. That said - would probably be better if there were easier tools to blur faces in videos. Flew UL once under the EK days and remeber it being decent, though the CMB lounges werent great
@aasamspb967 he is having beef with everyone... it's how he operates. He finds mistakes and centers his reviews around them. Example his last upload: He was sick, and the crew took care of him, but instead, he was highlighting an off duty pilot not putting his chair up right and stuff. (I also don't like that he will show people's faces)
Thank goodness for people like Josh picking up on airlines behind the scenes games, slack safety standards and shoddy performance. I’m grateful to him.
Did the drama between 'silly youtubers' worth more popcorn? Maybe yes. Did they made all airlines they so called reviewed better? Definitely no. Ironically the u all know grey and dark red anonymous mystery Arabic airline that one RUclipsr has always criticised for paying other RUclipsrs for propagandas is actually, in my own personal perspective, doing the best job among all airlines at least in their business class, after covid. LOL.
All it takes is for one blogger to ruin it for everyone (and we all know who it is). Frankly speaking I've been seeing videos by this 'silly youtuber' pop up always on my newsfeed on fb. And some videos are dated (from during the covid - you can see from the masks being worn by cabin crew which they don't do anymore). Claims that he made that the airline is falling apart are absolute nonsense. Yes the airline is in the red in terms of financial numbers - and their cabins may be dated compared to the Gulf carriers. But Sri Lankan airlines doesn't have the resources which they do. And for what it offers - Sri Lankan airlines is really good. Their meals, hospitality, and if you are lucky and get to fly their 330/300's then you are in real luck. But even their 330/200's are good. I had the chance to fly them in business class on their 330/300 a few months ago to Bengalaru to connect onto a European carrier to Europe, and I was surprised with what they offered. The hard product and food on a short flight which they offered is miles ahead of what the European carriers on short haul flights offer in Europe. So yes - the 'silly youtuber' takes things out of proportion, exaggerates, and there is a lot sensationalism in it. It's videos like yours that helps put things into perspective. So the cabin crew should have not made a fuss and allowed you to film. Safe travels! :-)
How ironic. Sri Lanka is still recovering from a decades long civil war and you would think they would be more concerned about Tamil separatists than harassing people wanting to share their flight experiences. Oh well. Guess the airline wants to be like North Korean airlines....
There is no Tamil separatist situaton in the country now. And this review was not about harassment. Apart from the fact that the reviewer was not allowed to film freely, he has been provided a fairly good level of service. The crew has spoken with him in a friendly manner.
Chennai is the - if not one of a few - worst airports in the universe. About film ban: I'm not sure if you tried filming the backside of an air hostess 😂
My guess is the silly RUclips’r was a fella whose initials are JC😏🤔 Guy seems always to have some ‘drama’ going on? Nice video and the food looked yummy - except for the faux Crème Brûlée? As an aside, I’m always fascinated by the standard of hotels in these ‘third world ‘ countries.
Your life could have been so much better if you had spent a few nights at the Ahu Bay Hotel in Sri Lanka. It’s truly the best place I’ve ever stayed, and knowing we share a similar budget and sense of style, I’m sure you’d love it too!
I'm always shocked at the narrowmindedness of the free publicity they'd get from these videos. They need to go to the Qatar Airways school of filming on board.
You got to look at it from a crew members point of view, why should they be filmed by someone totally unknown to them whilst they are working. Can U imagine if I just wanted to enter your hotel room to film you editing a review. Seems every RUclipsr feels they are above the law and common decency. Yes by all means review the flight but unless it's in a private plane show respect.
Umm... jumping to conclusions much? I love comments like this because it's like, why even watch if you're so 'rage against the reviewer'... I literally point my camera at my feet as I board every single flight to ensure I don't film crew and never film them in the cabin intentionally.

The moment I spotted the title Silly RUclipsr I immediately thought...oh what has Cahill done now?
Political corruption and misuse of financial resources and bad management has brought what was once a glorious airline to such a low. Sri Lankan used to be a great airline to fly before. On behalf of all Sri Lankans I apologize for the state of the airline, Kevin.
There is no need to apologize.
This is in fact a good and fair review of Srilankan. There are both plus and minus points highlighted in this very professional review. The most significant factor was that Kevin was not allowed to film freely. Being very fair, he has not run down the airline.

The movies etc. looks very Emirates from 20 years ago - guess there's a reason for that.
Great vid.
Good show. If possible shows with planning trip and purchasing. Thanks
Idk what happened to Sri Lankan airlines but when I went on their business class product on the A330, exact same flight I took multiple photos and videos. I feel some of the Sri Lankan airlines staff don’t want to be there anymore
Please fly from Banglore new international terminal 2 and review it I recommend flying the a 380 emirates or 747 Lufthansa for the experience
I have videos arriving and departing from the terminal on my channel already...
Good crew and food though!
i'm early for this vid yay
Thanks for watching

Really, I was under the impression they'd rolled out everywhere already. Must be a local payment process issue.
When you compare Madras with Calcutta airport it is so depressing. WB indeed is a very backward state - the airport is barely any more than a domestic terminal with barely anything. After security they have hardly any choice to eat and drink and was horrified to see a cup of tea was $7 AUD nearly!
ghanta, it's only that the terminal is newer... it's not much less tacky than the Cal one.
@@anonymouslyopinionated656 Chennai airport is much better than Kolkata one.
Good video.
Well Kevin, two things:
8:22 was that pamphlet given to you during this no filming debacle lol
MR FLOPPER ISNT SILLY! 🐬
have you stayed at the fishersmans cove by taj in chennai? if so, how was it?
Nope I haven’t
Not bad for an airline that is struggling to survive
Does Josh still live in Sri Lanka ‼️⁉️👀
Yes... we can all put 2 and 2 together. ;-)
12:22 Un-Brûlée-d 🤣
Gotta call it like it is lol
You fly so many different airlines. Are you ever concerned about the qualifications (or lack thereof) of the flight deck crew?
"So many airlines" is entirely the point in my book lol. As for qualifications, I think about it nearly as much as how many accidents my Uber driver has had or how many of the drivers on the road are intoxicated while I cross the street. It's all relative.
Airlines business is not for everyone as not many can run them profitably.
Yes, it will work as a subsidized organization that connects places but it won't earn any money
That’s why personally, I am of the opinion that countries need to do the following for things to improve.
1. Negotiate more open skies agreements
Kevin - If you were to write a blog I'd subscribe.
That makes... one of us lol
33 flights in 30 days, bro is taking more flights in a month than most ppl take in 30 years
A job's a job :)
At this point, you might as well change the name to the channel to The Sneaker Traveller. Great vid as usual though.
Sneakers in airports = smooth walking shots. Look at my airport videos 2 years ago (when I wore flip flops) and you'll notice quite a lot of jarring "steps"... The only time I ever do actually wear sneakers these days is when I fly, becuase of it.
That main dish looked spectacular. I involuntarily blurted out "Wow".
It was definitely tasty!
Thank You. ✈️

ha ha, you don't "write" (you film). You talk like a lawyer.
Many years at a very HR centric company lol
That silly youtuber is Josh Cahill 🤣
🤷🏼♂️

Yah, originally I was going to say "Queen's English"... but realized all that would do is get me 18 comments about colonization... so I went with "RP" assuming 97% of people wouldn't get it and being perfectly fine with that 😅

Putting restrictions on people filming never ends well.
That said - would probably be better if there were easier tools to blur faces in videos.
Flew UL once under the EK days and remeber it being decent, though the CMB lounges werent great

Is that a video that is more than V but less than X?
Behavior like this make people think before they book with them. 😏
I guess Josh Cahill has done it again and made it harder for other people to review
Certainly not making things easier lol
Sorry dude. I maybe living under a rock. But is there any controversy that Josh Cahill has other than his beef with Sam Chui.
@@highcoonlinea pilot breaching safety regulations is ridiculous. I don't think he deserves to be blamed for filming him
Did the drama between 'silly youtubers' worth more popcorn?
I have Indian and Sri Lankan parents, let me tell you I was not surprised when a Sri Lankan flight left early.
Josh is a legend 😊
@knightofceylon-ms1us So glad that you speak in the past tense "legend" about Josh. He is losing his way.
" *is* a legend " isn't past tense lol
My guess is the silly RUclips’r was a fella whose initials are JC😏🤔
Guy seems always to have some ‘drama’ going on?
So how does the QR flight attendant that asked me to stop filming fit into that? lol
@@tfftoops. Forgot about that one 😅
Silly airline...
Silly comment too.
for some reason I found this video quite silly
