This type of stuff is why Reason has always been better than other DAWs because you can create anything you need yourself with cables and a bit of logical thought. I have been a user since version 1 and I still absolutely love using it!
Man I've been using Reason ever since version 3 and while I don't claim to be an expert I definitely know my way around the software at a pretty comfortable level to accomplish lots of complex things. But you just demonstrated several hacks where I still haven't picked my jaw up off the floor yet. Being able to not only craft but experiment with Dynamic EQ which is something I didn't even think was possible just opened up a world of possibilities and has me pondering back on numerous situations I could have done this years ago but lacked the technical know-how. I'm subbed to you know, I love your approach and I'm clicking on your Malstrom video right now. Thank you family! 😎
Being a massive fan of Reasons routing system I commend your ingenuity, always nice to see folks going deep into the rack and it's wealth of powerful intricacy.
A great way to learn Reason and it's almost limitless rack combinations is to figure out how to do certain things by yourself. I do that a lot because every tutorial I see is for ableton live. So I always try to replicate ableton's built in vsts by making a combinator. I don't want to move to ableton because I've been using reason since version 1! I know it by heart by now.. Anyway, For dynamic eqing I use TDR Nova. It's free and it Rocks inside reason! Thanks for sharing this amazing video! Pls, keep them coming.
Nice! I love using Combinators to “create” specialized “gear”. All that’s missing now from the Pro-Q 3 is all the nice visual feedback. Really hope Reason Studios gives us some visual feedback elements in Combinator 3!
Dude , who cares about the construction noise? Anyone who does care should give their head a wobble. This is seriously useful info to a lot of budding artists . I use tdr nova for this kind of thing but there's a much bigger sense of achievement doing stuff on reason the way you are teaching us . Brilliant video , thanks for spending your time to share the knowledge
I certainly don't understand much of what you did in the combinator construction but I certainly will watch this video many times. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Nice job, very well explained making easy to follow along too - Cheers Quasar ;) - I've pasted a youtube link to this video inside my combinator for future reference using the free 'TMA-1 Commentator' rack extension.
thx, i've tried this and i like the results on vocals. Btw for ppl who are lazy, Go to Factory Sounds> All Effect Patches > Dynamics > Vocals - it has some de-essers made with combinators already. You can also solo the frequency on some, but not sure if theyre dynamic, tho you may like the results?
Nice! Good tip. Yeah they have made some great combis in the factory. There is also a combi called "Stereo Flip and Mono" that I used to use all the time before I bought the Selig Gain. it's great for flipping phase and checking your mono compatibility. Put it on the master and make sure your music is gonna translate! The Selig gain RE is worth every penny, BTW. It's my most used RE besides the Eksspirimental sounds stuff (check their stuff out too! All of their REs are excellent) I need to do a video on the importance of mono. Next video up.... Thor (shhhh 🤫) I'm glad you like the combi, BTW. What instruments are you ducking to keep your vocal clean/ sitting correctly? What frequencies (I know it's program dependent but give me some examples) Thanks for watching! See you in the next one!
Impressive, so now you've inspired to make one myself, because you made it look so easy and fun! Let's see how that turns out in reality lol! Love you too.
@@itsdjQuasar So nice of you to ask and yes, there is an effect (combinator) i'm curious about recreating for the longest of time but never quite got my head wrapped around it. It's a weird yet awesome resonance effect that sounds like the windows are rattling, or the doors on the kitchen cupboards, due to bass. It's not my idea but something from an album years ago and never heard something quite like that ever since. So, took some time but dug it up from its dusty case and ruclips.net/video/FSopyjngH8I/видео.html As you can hear, the resonance from the bassline is off-set and luscious af to the point that i'm wondering now if they held a microphone near a window sil and just recorded that with a reverb insert. There is a very audible click when the 'effect' is switched off again so.. Nevertheless, it fascinates me to this day on how they did that and maybe you can help figuring out what's going on there. (This compilation album has several nice elements btw but that aside.) So, that's a combinator!
Your tutorials are interesting, and fun to follow. I was wondering if you could make a video explaining routing because as a beginner I would like to learn to use Reason 9.5 to the fullest.
Nice. I'm wondering if maybe it'd be better to use another audio spider between the Thor and the compressor so you can send the signal to line mixer ch 2 that's after the Thor bandpass filter but before going through the compressor. Maybe that would be better when soloing to find the offending frequency?
Hmm... I see your point. That could help if you were to change the input volume of the comp. Ended up doing something like that in the 2-band dynamic eq I made (using a completely different method) for the Patreon extra related to this video. Thanks for watching!
While I know it would be easy to just get another multiband compressor (I use the cockos one religiously) I think it would be great to make a "Multi-sat-comp" - basically a multiband compressor with assignable saturation per band. You may have given me the routing configuration to make that happen!
I’ve done this! I made three different 4-band compressors using the three compressors that come with Reason, even gave them fancy faceplates. I need to upload those to my site for download 🤔
@@soviut303 Well like I said, CV and combinator confuse the heck out of me because I dont use them much. I bet I would be much better at making music if I learned to use them. Ive had Reason since Reason 3. Still dumbfounded.
@@robertmason7553 You can make great music without all this, but.... The trick was that I needed another copy of the signal to monitor/solo. Nothing to crazy but people forget that if you need something in Reason's rack you can make another instance of what you have to get it. It took me a while to understand routing as well. How would i set this up but make vocals compress specific frequemcy range in instru, emtal??
Put the dynamic EQ on the instrumental. Parallel out on vocal to sidechain in on comp in combi.

yeah. just a more simple combinator (less knobs). Thanks for watching!

There are a couple of us out there. I do make house music but not deep house so much or future garage at all. Sounds cool, tho.

The only downside is that Combinators don’t provide any visual feedback, so you have to open it up to see what each compressor is doing.
@@damajikninja too bad there wasn't a metering component that could be added

Would be cool to show that you can use another EQ as a bandpass filter as well.
wouldnt the same apply with any other eq or is it the CV connection. I dont do much cv. I get confused in less than one minute.
