Matthew, I’ve been painting for years now and you’ve touched a sore point! Comparison has often demotivated me, and that’s when consistency slows down. A vicious circle. I must do more, and more often, fail and learn through it. Thanks for this reminder. You’re a wise teacher and a good artist Matthew.

I believe that you are a doctor for us all doing water painting. You do catch our mentality in painting and talk to us so well.

I am more than willing to endorse the idea of painting frequently. I think the greatest contributor to improvement was due to a friend's challenge at the beginning of COVID to do a small watercolour every day. Comparing my early work to current ones shows a big difference, and this has a lot to do with the 1400+ paintings I've done since then. Your schedule may not allow you to paint daily, but finding scheduled time has done a great deal for me.

Really great points. I find I don’t get enough time to paint if I’m scrolling too much! I try to paint first. Thanks

Thank you so much for this guidance and free download. So much of what you said rang true to me. Watercoloring for over 1 year now and I've fallen into all your points. I needed that. For me, #1...give social media a break.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your videos. I've painted in acrylics for years, and am revisiting watercolor these days. What I love about it is the transparency and delicacy of the medium. Thanks again!

Hi! I have been following you & appreciate the content you create, which hugely benefits learners like me. Have a question! How do you decide the percentage of the darkest darks to the light & mid- values. Should the darks be balanced all over painting? Is it possible to paint the entire painting with only light & mid- values with minimum amount of darks ( appx. 10%) . Probably you can come up with a video on this. Thanks!

artist since 2008. Honestly could care less if I sell anything. I paint for me. I do sell some but it has nothing to do with me pushing my art. Shipping prices make selling not worth it. It's a hassle to sell it just makes it not fun anymore. I wish someone would sell and push and ship for me lol
