Nothing like a blued steel revolver and a leather holster that just beats the pants off of a polymer semi auto with a plastic holster..

@ 357 won't shoot through a engine block. That's a myth. Even 44 won't. Even 50 AE won't. It definitely will go deep but unless it's a little 2 cylinder or straight six it won't happen. Most large rifle rounds like 45-70 or 450bm won't even go through.

    • @disco4535
      @disco4535 4 года назад +6

@ Lmao. Take a class instead of getting trained by Hollywood. 9mm doesn't bounce off windshields, whether shot from inside or out. It does however, change the trajectory of the bullet, just like it does with .357
If you're looking to have soething pretty get a revolver or 1911. If you're looking for the ideal sidearm, go with a "plastic" one. I shoot and love them all

That is indeed a beautiful finish. As a hand loader, and the older I get, and the more painful it is to pick up brass, the more the .357 becomes my favorite caliber. My favorite "baby" is a 5" model 27-2 I added a set of "Coke Bottle" target stocks that I picked up at a gun show years ago, along with an old Smith & Wesson wood box, and I enjoy looking at her almost as much as time at the range. My pet load of 5.5 gr. Unique over a Lee mold cast 158 gr. LSWC sized to .358 is very accurate in my revolvers, and rifles. Hits harder than .38 special, yet mild enough to get many loads per case. I hope to one day save up for a Henry lever action when they add the loading gate to the .357. Right now have an IMI Timberwolf, and a Ruger 77/.357 rifle. Incidentally, thanks for your endshake video. I put one .002 shim in my model 27-2, and is now perfect!

When I was a USAF Security Policeman (66-70) we carried the Smith & Wesson Combat Masterpiece. I liked the weapon itself, but did not like the small (short) handgrip. I do not have large hands but when the small, stock walnut grip got wet (which it did often in the monsoon rains) it was slippery and difficult to keep in my hand. Years later, when I decided to buy a handgun I looked at the automatic pistols, but just wasn't comfortable with them. The simplicity of the revolver appealed to me even though it held only six rounds. I decided to stay with a revolver and chose the brand that I was familiar with, S&W. I purchased the 586 and even though I really love the beauty of the walnut grips, I switched them out right away for the Hogue rubber grips. They are not as thick as the walnut grips so my hands wrap around the Hogue grips much better resulting in more control, especially when firing double action with 357 magnum rounds.

Worked on the original models for leo for many years. Completely disassembled this new model, and explained in detail why these new models are an improvement in many ways over the original models. You can find if you look for it. This will be my next gun purchase, so classic.

I have to disagree with you on a couple of points.
I've always been a 357 man, to the point I got rid of all my 9mm's.
I edc a 357 daily. I fluctuate between a 3" and a 4". All you have to do is buy an outside shirt 1 size larger.
This IS a concealed carry weapon.
As far as the "hilary hole," I always disable them. I take them out completely.
And before you or anyone else says it, I know it "voids" the warranty.
If I did need to send it to S&W for service, I know they will replace it.
When I get it back, I would take it out again. No big deal.
It's a shame Smith caved to political pressure. I'm soo glad Colt did not.

I agree that 357 Magnum is phenomenal as a self defense round and a 4” 586 is a great carry gun (with mods, including different stocks) in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2. As 38 Special was the “adequate” light load of its day, so too is 9x19mm today. These light rounds certainly work, but 357 Magnum shines in comparison.

Yes indeed. I too am a pushover for a high polish deep blue revolver. So much so that I bought a 6" blue Python back on July 1st. What a disappointment. 6.7 lbs. average single action trigger pull and 11+ lbs double action trigger pull. Nothing but a pretty face. I truly wish I would have bought a new 586. Could have saved a bunch of money as well.

A commander size 1911(4”) in 9mm or even better in .45 ACP for CCW will do quite nicely.
    I purchased a 586-8 4” 6 months ago and love it.
But I also use a Glock 21 and 30 for CCW also.

I have this gun also. Love it. The key hole does not bother me. Original versions of this revolver are hard to find, so I support S&W for at least still making good revolvers.

What we need to do is get you a hot tank bluing machine so we can really rescue all those guns. That would be insane when you really have a psycho collection. Good job.

To state again, Yes you can conceal a 4 inch Magnum revolver. Choice of clothing is the key. There are many holster options that can help you do this. Experiment, and you will find out it can be done. Again, I' 6 foot 1 0r 2 inches tall, about 215 pounds weight, I work a dirty manual labor job. If I can do, then you can too.

I have a stainless gp 100 and a 586. Both 4in barrels. The 586 is definitely to good looking to carry seriously it’s more of a range gun. The gp 100 gets the backpacking/camping duty. Accuracy is about the same with most loads.

I do like the older style handles and the older style spurs on the single action. I wish they’d make a double action that look like that they’re awesome if they made a double action that looks like the older guns at the Blackhawk that would be insane but good choice on that 586, the 686 class good guns very good, good choices. I followed your channel often on I see you trying to rescue those old guns. That’s good they need love too.

Question 1...what does the 8 mean?
2...I remember a pistol similar that was called a trooper. What's the difference?
3...I remember a pistol video of a vice president or sales representative. He was shooting a revolver and he mentioned at the factory they shoot there revolvers and the few that show extreme accuracy they stamp a number or letter at that very moment and add a 100 bucks to the price. Do you know what revolvers are designated like that?

  • @boricuaarecibo9259

In my opinion you should not try to stage the double action trigger pull. Learn how to pull the trigger in one continuous trigger pull. I recently shot a steel silhouette target from 200 yards and was able to make hits. However, I found when trying to make the shot in single action I sent the shot inadvertently because of the very light trigger.

I wouldn’t mind aesthetics of IL if not for recontoured frame. But for shootability I find slightly beefed up IL L-frame balances 6” slightly nicer than pre-lock

Though I'm not big on new Smiths, I've been checking out a couple models and this is one of them. I prefer the 4 inch barrel as well. I'd love to put the old style magna grips on it too. I love the old wood panel grips so much. That model would look nice with those. The other models I've been looking at are the classic 29 4 inch and the snub 69. I've also thought about a 686+ snub buttye 29, 586 and 686 I'd prefer to get older ones without the lock and with the hammer mounted firing pin though they are harder to find and expensive. I really like that they brought back the square butt for the classic 586 and 29. I don't like round butt on 4 inch or longer revolvers. The 686 snub, I'd much prefer an older one as well, but the new ones aren't bad. If they made a 586+ snubby, with a nice blued finish like your's, I'd have to buy it even with a lock and frame mounted firing pin. I don't know why the hell they don't make that. Nice gun.

Beautiful revolver. I looked at one of those new, ugly sleeved-barrel model 69 combat magnums... SW still can’t properly index the sleeved versions... it’s a shame that nowadays you have to look at two of them and choose to buy the best one.
