I honestly wish more TAS's had commentated versions. As much as I love the chaos of Tool-assisted Speedruns, they often get really boring to me and I end up either falling asleep or clicking off. With commentary Speedruns, it gives me more to focus on and helps me watch the whole thing through.
This was my favorite DS game as a child and one that I've easily put the most hours into replaying, so watching it get destroyed was very satisfying. Your live commentary was great and helped keep me engaged throughout all of it and explain what exactly was going on instead of letting us mindlessly watch a speedrun without any context for the tricks. Thank you so much for this!
I always thought of stone as a slow, defensive ability, (I used it to cheese the arenas) but it not only being used in the tas but as a main ability is something I didn't expect to see. Also you do get a little medal if you complete helper to hero with all the characters, but I understand why it's not in the speedrun.
I’m such a sucker for Kirby, ESPECIALLY SPEEDRUNS OF KIRBY. Feels so good to see one of my favorite childhood games speedrunned. Enjoyed the commentary as well as going, “WOAH?!” or “WHAT?!” ❤️
No way… I just watched this TAS earlier this week and now there’s a commentated version. This was really cool! I’m not too technical with speedrunning but I love hearing about why people do certain techniques and this was such a good watch. I’m also glad we got commentary on concealing Meta Knight’s face and the flexing statues after the bosses, I thought they were a nice touch when I watched the original.
This was so cool and so much fun to watch!!! Thanks for making it!!! I hope commentated TAS videos become more popular after people see the success of this video! 😍
This was so engaging omg, I've always held this game in the highest regard for its design and style, but seeing how diverse the movement is, kinda makes me wanna take up speedrunning it 😅 Great watch man I loved your commentary 👍

greatly enjoyed the commentary that came with this video. straight up to the point and explaining what you do without taking out the appeal of the actual run.
its interesting how you had to basically rework your mindset when it came to different minigames, since they worked differently. Really neat watch, I enjoyed it.

The DBC movement in this run is super cool. Shame that as far as I can tell it's basically TAS only cause it looks super cool and fun. I have *never* played Super Star Ultra but my limited Kirby experience and a few minutes of research have led me to that conclusion.
I love this video. Watched it all the way through 3 times now, but I was wondering exactly how rng manipulation works in this game. You mentioned it a lot but didn’t have time to go into specifics.
Specifics are hard since it’s a really heavy subject that I don’t really fully understand, but basically imagine there’s this big wheel of fortune that’s constantly spinning and landing on certain values which determine certain events. I can’t usually control when the wheel stops on something, the game decides when that happens whenever it calls an event, but I can still manipulate what it lands on by, for example, spinning the wheel faster. I can do that by forcing the game to call more events, which is easiest done by running around and spawning a bunch of dust sprites. I hope that analogy makes a little bit of sense haha maybe I’ll make a full video explaining it with visuals.

Not only was every second of this fascinating and extremely engaging, you're really funny too, Hiding Meta Knight's face, teasing getting abilities and dying... There's so much fun things you can do with TASes like this, truly marvelous!
Honestly one of the best TASs out there. Commentary, absurd movement, weird tech, the works. What really sets it apart is the playabout in autoscrollers/cutscenes though. Most TAS's don't do much, but the little pointless challenges, the absurdly hyperactive movement, and the little touches like stabbing the eye on the frame it explodes, or hitting the background whale really made every second of this run super entertaining :D
I'm literally just echoing the sentiments of all the other comments on this video, but this is so incredibly well done! It goes without saying that you're very knowledgable about the game, and you devoted a huge amount of time in producing such an entertaining TAS. But putting in commentary that not only provides in-depth explanations of the content, yet also does so in ways that are incredibly easy to understand without pausing the TAS or otherwise ruining the pacing of the run is an incredible challenge, and you more than rose to the occasion. Not to mention you're a genuinely funny dude. (Adding this parenthetical here cuz I read some other comments after I posted: I personally was also a fan of the "dead moments" in the vid where there was no commentary. If there's nothing to say, I don't think you need to fill it up with jokes or information that's only tangentially related. Obviously you're free to do whatever feels more natural to you, I just want to say that you shouldn't feel pressured to do so. People are watching for both the TAS and your commentary so imo there's no need for your commentary to be forced. Anyway...) I love stumbling across unexpected diamonds like this vid, because I hop in thinking I'll see what's up for a few minutes, and an hour and a half later, I'm crying because it's almost over. I don't know what inspired you to make this commentated TAS, but I genuinely hope its success inspires you to do more, because you absolutely deserve all the attention this video is getting!
The amount of times ive yelled “OHOHOHOOOO” out of pure shock or amazement is enough to probably shake a mountain Ive played super star ultra for so long and all of this has been the most satisfying thing i’ve ever watched
Commentated speedruns are a niche that otherwise only AGDQ really provide most of the time. I really appreciate commentators. Makes even the unoptimal or long speedruns so much more fun to watch.
@@tdawgmaster1729 Please name them! Or at least give me another hint so I know I found the right guy! Not the same guy tdawgmaster is talking about, but if you’re looking for commentated speed runs I’d highly recommend tomatoanus. I know the name sounds weird but his whole channel is commentated runs for various different games.
I always knew Stone was a super powerful and underrated ability, and it definitely has nothing to do with the invincibility involved and my own cowardice.
Dude, you're good at this. There's a misconception with things like this that every second of "dead air" needs to be filled with talking. After a while it all just becomes information white noise and no longer serves its purpose. You know what to say, and when to say it.
This was a great watch. The little jokes like you becoming a buff statue when defeating bosses with stone or your interactions with the whale boss were always amusing. And the explanations were clear and well done, even if it was "still don't know how this works yet..." Would love to see more vids :D
Honestly both tasers and regular speedrunners get respect from me because.. they can bring games back from the dead with new categories or discover new things to do via glitches or tricks.
this was absolutely incredible to watch. i've played maybe 6 or 7 different kirby games to 100% completion, and doing so has always been delightful, if a bit tedious. seeing one of the most content-rich games in the series get absolutely destroyed like this is just so CATHARTIC, and the commentary doesn't disappoint! there's so much more nuance to KSSU's movement tech than i ever could have imagined. i seriously hope this nabs a spot for TAS block at AGDQ because this is just pure unadulterated chaos through and through and i adore it

Other people might want it as well, so I figured I'd take the time to make it for you! I tried to start each chapter when you started the explanation for each one because I didn't want to cut you off, but sometimes it wasn't doable. Thanks for the TAS and good work!!

As a young kid who wasn't particularly talented with legit fighting, cheesing things with Stone and patience was the strat, and I'm so glad Stone not only got a prominent role in this TAS, but also got to defeat the final few bosses. Truly re *marx* able.
I'm always thoroughly impressed by Kirby speedruns. The movement gets absolutely wacky at some points, which most people wouldn't necessarily expect. Great run!
Usually when fighting the reactor, I'd just clip through until I was standing behind the gem. Then I can just keep guarding while the laser hits the middle each time.
I would somewhat disagree with calling the Copy copy ability completely useless, it allows Kirby to copy abiliites from mini bosses before defeating them, also allows you to copy the Crash ability from Scarfy, an enemy that cannot be inhaled. Also when the Copy ability is turned into a friend, its the only way for the second player to discard an ability and switch to another one without Kirby having to replace it himself, or the partner dying.
Oh dang I didn't know about the scarfy thing that's pretty neat. Also, your point is really valid and I would've gone more in depth in the video if copy wasn't so short lived. The miniboss thing is actually used in IGT speedruns for the true arena which is something I neglected to mention. I'll also concede that if it were possible to TAS with multiple players (which I don't think is the case with this game since DS multiplayer is wack) then copy could be a pretty big deal in certain areas.
I think TAC, the Copy helper, also has some pretty nutsy damage output in Helper to Hero. He can't copy in that mode but the damage is much higher to compensate. Probably not going to be super relevant for TAS but since you mentioned some casual use of copying Scarfy or multiplayer, figured I'd throw that into the ring
@@NessMother2 Nah, the Chameleon boss can throw projectiles that give Paint when inhaled, and Heavy Lobster can also create a droplet projectile that can give Paint when inhaled. Paint I would say is damn near useless though, since its rarer than Crash, while doing less damage. It can change the Chameleon's color, and blind Heavy Lobster, but thats about it, unless there's something I missed.
It was cool to see how fast each section can be done, this is my childhood game and I 100% completed many many times, seeing kirby just flying and literraly smashing with rock ability the bosses and enemies is very epic
This was my first video game as a kid and I love the idea of seeing an almost if not perfect tas done all these years later. I was putting this video off because of the length but now that I've finished it, I can say this is something I'll probably be rewatching off and on for years to come
Seeing the theoretically perfect way to play my favorite Kirby game will always be insanely satisfying. You are a total badass for putting all this together, my dude.
I really enjoyed this whole TAS. I loved hearing how some of the more difficult techniques were pulled off and it was great seeing one of my favorite games from my childhood be cracked open like this
What I really like about this video is that you didn’t talk for the ENTIRE run which can be really annoying in these types of videos, especially when there’s nothing interesting happening. You left the self explanatory and simpler parts of the run speak for themselves while also giving great commentary for the parts that needed it, great video all around
RUclips recommendations really hooked me up with this one - your excellent and entertaining commentary turned this already great TAS into a super enjoyable experience!
Sample, this is a joy of a video to watch. This was my favorite game on the DS; my sister and I played the game together so many times. Not to be sappy but I do get a little emotional and sentimental seeing TAS playthroughs like this; it brings back a lot of memories. Plus, it leaves me awestruck at how you never know truly what a playable character is capable of until you see a TAS. I had no idea the movement in this game was so crazy. Kirby gets wing and literally hits the fusion speed boost lmao! Anyway, keep up the great work, I look forward to seeing any of your future videos. Your commentary is really insightful and easy to follow. :)
Besides the fact that this is an incredible labor and feat of love, I really adore your commentary. Not only do I enjoy your calm voice in general, but your so informative in a very digestible manner (no pun intended) and don't talk over the whole damn thing. You know just when to sit back and let the tas show itself off. I really hope you do more tas's in the future. Your videos have been an absolute joy to watch. Thank you so much for posting your work for us to enjoy.
I didn't know this TAS had a commentary at all, this was a lot of fun to watch! Your commentary was not just insightful but pretty entertaining as well, I could listen to you talking about stupid garbage whenever. (Not to imply any of this was stupid garbage, if anything it was smart garbage.) This was a lot of fun both for the TAS Itself and hearing your commentary, thank you so much for to playing this game!
one of the things i love about speedruns in general is how it lets us learn not just about how the gameplay works but how the game itself works. how the game was made and how it processes what is being done. it's so cool
I think this TAS is amazing! There are enough glitches and interesting movement to make it fun to watch but it's not like OoT where the glitches have become so complicated to the point where you don't even know what's going on. Great video!
This is one of my favorite games of all time and one I'm extremely nostalgic for. Seeing you absolutely obliterate it like this brings me so much joy. Best of luck in the future :)
Amazing run and I LOVE the commentary, this is one of my favorite games of all time and I can’t explain how much I hate that room at 20:40 with the sleep statues, it terrified me as a kid and still took quite a lot of time earlier this year when I played through the SNES version.
This was a pretty good video; I really love how you took your time to commentate over everything. It's admirable how much effort you put into making it. I watched the whole thing, and I must say it was very very interesting. I learned a lot about "TASing", and the way you structured your routes through different areas, and the different strategies you employed were compelling. Unfortunately, you slightly mispronounced Galacta Knight's name making the whole video invalid 0/10
this is great both as background sound to do other stuff and is entertaining to watch and listen to the explanation of all the chaos that normally happens in a TAS really great vid 10/10 wish there were more of these

The amount of times ive yelled “OHOHOHOOOO” out of pure shock or amazement is enough to probably shake a mountain

Same! I was surprised he used wing and jet as those are pretty much my least favorite abilities 😅 so cool seeing a speedrun of one of my fav games

Commentated speedruns are a niche that otherwise only AGDQ really provide most of the time.
I really appreciate commentators. Makes even the unoptimal or long speedruns so much more fun to watch.
There's actually another TASer that does commentaries of his own runs (not going to name them here, but he mostly does Mega Man X6 runs)
@@tdawgmaster1729 Please name them! Or at least give me another hint so I know I found the right guy! I promise it won't detract from this guy's views; I have literally unlimited free time :)
(since I'm guessing that you might not be naming them because you don't want to detract from this guy's views, maybe?)
@@tdawgmaster1729 Why on Earth didn't you name him? What, has he down something bad and doesn't deserve attention?
Not the same guy tdawgmaster is talking about, but if you’re looking for commentated speed runs I’d highly recommend tomatoanus. I know the name sounds weird but his whole channel is commentated runs for various different games.
@@ggplayer4269 his name sounds weird because it's a reference to Club Penguin ban speedruns if i'm not mistaken
I always knew Stone was a super powerful and underrated ability, and it definitely has nothing to do with the invincibility involved and my own cowardice.
In later games, you can use the Stone Uppercut which basically acts like a Hammer Flip, but you can use it in the air!
And the explanations were clear and well done, even if it was "still don't know how this works yet..."
Would love to see more vids :D

I haven't actually watched this all the way through, I plan on it, but I really wanted a chapter list for this TAS because I wanted to be able to split it into chunks for my own viewing experience. Other people might want it as well, so I figured I'd take the time to make it for you! I tried to start each chapter when you started the explanation for each one because I didn't want to cut you off, but sometimes it wasn't doable. Thanks for the TAS and good work!!
Oh dang good idea thanks!
People who use chapters are heroes
@@dreamerofthorns yes
@@dreamerofthorns not for mobile users who can't use AdBlock. Chapters prevent me from skipping ads, meaning there's 2 ads per chapter instead of 2 ads per video.
@@Jaydove2387 oh damn, really? Didnt know that. And I'm a mobile user without adblock, lmao
I love TAS's because they show you how PERFECTLY optimized a game can truly be aside from our human dumb fingers. But the commentary just makes it so enjoyable and fun, watched the whole thing and that's something i don't expect from an hour and a half video. Absolutely amazing, thanks a lot!
Great run!
So, today I learned that Mach Tornado can one shot the reactor.
surprised you hadn’t tried it! i hate that boss so it’s my go to
@@danihk2872 Seriously, I didn't even know that was an option before this!
Copy can also be useful for milkyway wishes if you want to use an ability there that you don't have as an essence yet.
Isn't it also the only way to obtain the Paint ability?
I love hearing commentary on how/why various techs are done in speedruns. Makes it so much easier to follow what is happening
it's cool how many abilities you end up having to use instead of just like, spamming wings the whole time. it's a testament to how good the game is
Or how broken
@@Ten_Thousand_Locustsnot really when you understand this is pretty much impossible normally

More TAS runs should have explanations like this by their creator, it makes it way more interesting.
You are a total badass for putting all this together, my dude.
this is just canonically accurate kirby gameplay

The Bad Ending
I really enjoyed this whole TAS. I loved hearing how some of the more difficult techniques were pulled off and it was great seeing one of my favorite games from my childhood be cracked open like this
3 minutes in and he’s already gotten farther than me playing normally in an hour. This is gonna be good.
Damn I’m never gonna be able to watch a TAS without commentary again, this is so much more enjoyable

i love it when movement happens to be perfectly timed with the music
So long, gay Bonkers.
Your commentary really makes the video. Sheds light on techniques I could never have imagined in one of my favorite DS games. Great work!
This is Kirby's true power. Us feeble mortals were always too limited to use him at his fullest potential.
Ay thanks!
Man I loved this game as a kid! You make my childhood struggles of finding every chest in GCO look like a cakewalk lmao
Awesome TAS, great work :)
one of the things i love about speedruns in general is how it lets us learn not just about how the gameplay works but how the game itself works. how the game was made and how it processes what is being done. it's so cool
I love sleep rooms in Kirby games.
I loved the diversity in this run, both through the abilities and the routing/tech itself. Never a dull moment. Thank you for explaining it all!
Unfortunately, you slightly mispronounced Galacta Knight's name making the whole video invalid 0/10

loved seeing this, this was one of the first games I played as a kid and to see it broken apart so spectacularly is amazing
this is great both as background sound to do other stuff and is entertaining to watch and listen to the explanation of all the chaos that normally happens in a TAS

Kirby Super Star Ultra was a huge part of my childhood and is still my favorite Kirby game to this day, and yet I had no idea that tac world existed in Milky Way Wishes. Great video!

Amazing TAS! This really brought me waaay back playing Super Star Ultra casually. It's such a fun game, and this was a crazy TAS showing all sorts of cool tech. Well done, and good luck in your future projects!
i have watched this video at least 10 times. insane tas, insane commentary, super fun and engaging the entire time :)
It seems that I'm not the only one who's watched this more than twice.
fantastic video, i loved listening to you talk about the quirks of the game so in-depth like this
This is the game of my childhood, and you have no idea how glad I am that I found this gem! This is a great TAS and your insightful commentary made it all the more enjoyable and interesting (you're knowledgeable, funny and have a good diction). I can't wait to see what other projects you have in store for the future!

This was probably the most interesting video I've ever watched. TAS'ing is such an interesting method of speedrunning, and I love how you detailed your steps and how you got your nearly perfect run.
This is literally Kirby at his peak performance. Really neat, thanks for this!
