I have 4 grumpy old male (neutered) cats, but if I heard/saw that outside a grocery store the little puppy would come home with me as a foster, at the very least.

He has rescued hundreds (maybe thousands) of animals on the island of Crete (Greece), many from horrendous conditions.
Something similar happened to me, someone dropped off a puppy in our neighborhood and just drove off(he was a month old :[). The puppy snuck around everywhere trying to find his original owner, not realizing he was abandoned. Many people tried to pick him up off the side of the road but man he is a FAST puppy and didn't let anyone catch him. He snuck into my family's backyard and hung out there and only left when he saw us, the only one he would get near to was my mom. We blocked off all exits in our backyard and earned his trust to see if he had a tag on his collar, nothing. We tried to find his original owner but no one ever stepped up. Even though my mom despised dogs, she decided we could let him stay. His name is Trabiezo and we adopted him! He is currently 9 months old and I'm glad we could be the home he is happy with. :]

The puppy was clean, well fed and obviously well taken care of prior to being abandoned. That means that the person who left it probably couldn't keep it. I'm very grateful that it was found by someone with good intentions. Be happy, little one 😊
I was thinking precisely the same thing, Zheni...the true shitheads are the ones who leave defenceless animals inside bins or in places where they're unlikely to be found quickly, whereas this little pup was left with food to eat & something to drink & in a very conspicuous place...of course, it's still better to take the animal to a shelter if you don't have the time or means to find a new 'forever home' for the animal...

I had the exact same thought. The milk was clean so I don't think the puppy was waiting for very long. Makes me wonder if that person was still nearby and keeping an eye out for the puppy until someone rescued it. Just seems very risky to let anyone take it though. I'm very happy it ended up at Takis shelter and found a loving home!

I think the previous owner was around checking on it being taken. He choose a spot hard to miss to make the sure the puppy is taken. No one knows his circumstances, wish both good fortune
I wonder if they live in an area they know the shelters aren't as safe or have high kill rates? Maybe they were just lazy but hopefully they did that out of kindness and hope instead, at least we know this time she found a happy safe home 💗

I honestly don't blame the people. A stray dog followed me home and although it's been more than a decade since then it wasn't easy keeping both of us fed. I work quite hard with long hours to keep a roof over our heads with food in the fridge for both of us and sometimes I just wished I was richer and had more free time so that I can spend more time with my best friend.

Takis has about 500 dogs at his shelter in Crete, Greece now, and none of them are ever chained or locked in cages. They live in a paradise , Takis Paradise, where they are loved and run about free within large happy groups. Takis does this all on his own, and volunteers are always welcome to come stay. Please donate, or visit and adopt one of his beautiful furbabies. Takis does this all on his own, with no help from the Greek government whatsoever. Yet the people of Crete continue to dump dogs all over the countryside, and don't even bother spaying or neutering them. That country needs a wake up call. Thank God for the beautiful Saint Takis. ❤️❤️
When I'm getting my next dog I need to go there ..
We all need to be people like him. And in my case- I cannot have animals where I live. However, nothing stops me from donating to animal sanctuaries/shelters. People don't understand that even if it's just $1, that it's greatly needed/appreciated. Shelters and sanctuaries rely on donations to keep them up and running.

@@Latro84 great idea, providing your country will allow it. Mostly adopters come from Europe where it's free or low cost to fly them back with you. Some countries like Australia have very stringent quarantine laws so it's likely it will need to stay in quarantine for an extended period of time before you can take it home. That is not ideal.

Takis will not tolerate seeing a dog treated badly, or locked on a chain for life. Together with police help he will take that dog away and the police will fine the owner for mistreatment. Sadly you have no idea what you are talking about so I'd like you to delete your comment . Takis saves paralysed cats and dogs, injured cats and dogs, mistreated , abused. I adopted a puppy last week. Found her on the road. My ignorant cousin whom I live with wanted no more pets, but I did not care. She is now frenemy with an older dog I found on the street when he was a pup.

No way to know the situation of the person. They left her in a box for relative confinement/safety, a source of fluid and food, outside a heavily trafficked area. That's the act of someone who clearly WANTS the puppy to be cared for, and is hoping someone like the poster, will take the animal in. It's more likely they were unable to keep the animal, and didn't know what else to do.
So cute how she seems to start wagging her tail as soon as he picks her up at the beginning. Like she knows it’s going to be Ok now.

“This guy” is Takis who for the past several years has run a shelter near Ierapetra in the island of Crete.
He has rescued many hundred of dogs, also cats and other animals. With the help of the local police, he has been able to rescue many dogs, kept in chains, without shelter, proper food or clean water.
Takis helps the nearby smaller Jutta Shelter. Takis has successfully placed many dogs and some cats with families in the UK and
several European countries. Introducing Jutta Shelter to his followers has helped the kind people of this small shelter with donations and some adoptions. Both shelters and the animals need our continuous support.
That is such a nice thing to do. I am glad someone is doing something about these things.

Wow that really pulled on my heart strings, this guy is doing a great thing in Greece with his shelter I've seen some videos in the past featuring Takis Shelter. Unfortunately the abandonment of pets is a big problem in Greece among other places where the economy isn't so great. It makes you feel good that there's people like him out there who devote the time and recorces to rescue and care for these animals.

I’m guessing because most people rightfully assumed that the dog would be snatched up by someone within 5 minutes in a location like that. Let the person that wants him the most have him.
I work at a recyling center for years. There's cats, rats, birds, raccoons etc. I don't care about them.

Humans as species do this to each other anyway. What hope does any other species have? We can barely treat each other with respect or kindness, and you really are wondering how anyone could do this to a sweet pup?
Lets start with a surprise visit to one of the breeders? Or the need that we anyway think these lives are beneath us so we cross-breed and discard the runts in trash bins while the ones with ego trips go BUY (instead of adopt) their sisters and brothers paying top dollar. Greece has no mandatory neutering laws for the few existing animal shelters they do have. So it's a good possibility the pupper was an accidental birth and the owners couldn't take care of her. Greece has a big stray animal problem mainly due to the lack of animal protection and management laws, lack facilities and lack of government programs and organizations put in place to handle these kinds of situations.

When people abandon the pups by putting them in a trash bag or throwing them out of a moving vehicle, it infuriates me to no end. People are lucky I have never seen that.

I wanna say that the guy that abandoned her at the very least had the heart to dump her somewhere with a lot of foot traffic, where she would have a hard time getting injured by, say, a vehicle - AND with some food and water. They were clearly hoping somebody would take her. Wasn't shocked at all when the video said it was Takis that took her though - Takis is an angel~
Exactly. Im glad he/she didn't decide to dump it into the trash or something like that. It's noble of him/her to place the pup where it can be rescued.

Exactly @What's next?? ? Puppy was left in a safe box with food and liquid in a very public place. Maybe the person was heartbroken to leave it there but unable to keep for many reasons.
