I know AMD's RT isn't good, but reducing it and limiting it to console levels on PC is an insult to pc games. People pay a lot for GPUs and even more nowadays. The RT reflections are so blurry due to such low resolution
So true. I do not have an RTX GPU yet, but when I do I will keep RT reflections off in this game. RT reflections are transformative in Cyberpunk 2077, and it is easy to see that CDPR optimized that game to take advantage of NVIDIA's greatest tech, with high-quality RT and DLSS.
Just an update to add that over three weeks after this video went live and Alex (presumably) informed Capcom about the issues that there has not been one single patch or hot fix released to address any of the issues mentioned. Rumours are that the Denuvro DRM is the culprit, which is only used on the PC and not the console versions. Regardless of the cause, that really is extremely disappointing in my opinion, especially as the PS5 version, which in my experience had far fewer issues at launch, has had two or three patches. I guess it shows where Capcom’s loyalties lie…

Should've got a ps5! But seriously it's buttery smooth on my ps5, although I just know pc is gonna get a fov mod and aim down sights mod and I'll be super jealous. The fov is nauseating sometimes, wish we could change it but I still beat it and its an amazing R.e game for sure.
The issues with the frames getting tanked during the bug animation for the vampire daughters entering is NOT limited to the 2000 series, I can confirm I had that issue on my 3070. It’s damn annoying
The Series X performs like a 2070S. Not a high-end graphics card. If you’re talking about the awful stutters, this has nothing to do with the Series X and is just Capcom being incompetent with PC ports like they often are.
I wish Alex used more circles and arrows because so many of these things, even when I pause and stare for minutes, end up being, "Looks ok to me." Maybe that's because I watch the videos at 1080p.
Watching it at 4k on a tablet with an OLED screen and I struggle to notice what he is talking about sometimes, would love some circles and arrow haha because I love DF videos
@Kent talks tech when there are 3 side-by-sides and one thing is being pointed out but you maybe don't know what that would be, I can see how some could not follow Could you honestly not think of that yourself?
@Kent talks tech he wrote exactly what he meant. Arrows and circles in this video can only be used on still frames (or moving ones) to point out something like dithering or mesh quality, etc. You can't use circles and arrows for anything else in this type of video. Hence the reason why I asked you if you couldn't come up with that. OPs comment doesn't even suggest that he had just one specific instance he couldn't follow, so I don't see why you're fixated on that. Not trying to argue, it's just OPs comment seems very clear to me :)
Between the borked gyro aiming, the issues with the camera on Xbox, & the lack of a field of view slider, there’s quite a bit for Capcom to fix in later patches.
Capcom can always do the same trick as square did with Nier Automata = wait 4 years , release better version of the game in winstore , get review bombed , made a statement about they working on the patch near the release of new game in the series ( which by the way have same amount of problems as automata , or even more ) to bump up the sales on pc and month later go radiosilence again .
Now this is what I've been waiting for. I currently own a PC with an RTX 2080ti and a PS5. Which version of the game should I pick up? Guess I will know after viewing this video. Thanks so much DF.
Based on this review, the PS5 version. Sure the pc version looks prettier but the PS5 will run it better and it will still look beautiful. Trust me. I am loving it on the PS5 right now. It’s very smooth. To play with only a few noticeable frame rate dips.
After checking out the demo, I decided to get the game on PS5 instead of playing it on my PC with an RTX 2070. Between the strange menu controls, the DualSense effects on PS5, and the framerate I was getting on PC with ray tracing on not being much higher than the PS5’s 60 FPS target, the PS5 seemed like the better option to me (it certainly helped that my PS5 had only just arrived a few days prior to that final demo becoming available). Seems that I made the right choice!
I also noticed a lot of texture load stutter specifically before the final area you get access to a boat where you can go between 3 area and as you go between these 3 area you just see this point where the higher quality texutres all just pop in.
a bit too late :( I've beaten it today. Great game. On my 1070 laptop with ultra settings 60 fps and almost no issues except few hiccups with lots of alpha on screen
Glad I grabbed this one on the Series X. I tested the demo on PC and Xbox and went with Xbox because the gameplay felt better, had no visual loss of quality, and allowed me to play the game through surround sound.
Good choice, I’m surprised at this video’s findings. I got it on PS5 and haven’t had any of issues mentioned here either. Hopefully they patch out these PC port problems.

On my next play through I’m going to experiment more with 4K + RT and dropping the Image Quality setting even lower
I tried playing with RT on using a 3070 on 1440p ultrawide. I was impressed at first with performance. But damn! The FPS drop to 20s in some locations inside the mansion. I opted to play without RT, I'm not missing much.
I think the RT GI is the biggest improvement to the look of the game, even more so than reflections. There are many scenes where the bounce light makes the scene so much better.
I think there is possibly a memory leak or something. I've had the same issues with my 3080. I reload the game and the frames are back to normal in exact same room/area.
How long does it take for Capcom to put out patches. Sad, I bought this on launch and refuse to play it until they patch it. Have a 3060 TI and 9900k, changing resolution to 1440p from 4k does nothing to fix this, and I refuse to play at 1080P, thought I'm sure it would still have the same issues at that resolution.
@@linuxas1996 I.... Kinda ignored their VRAM warnings. (So Max textures with an overall quality setting of 1) I think I'm hovering around 11GB. Those usually aren't super accurate anyway.
For me, the main villain of this game was the brightness. Not sure if this was talked about in the video, but I had to adjust the brightness at least 200 times during my playthrough. It was either too bright or too dark with very sudden changes when moving between places.
Can we see how it performs on last gen consoles? Looking at it on PS5, Series X, and PC is cool and all But most console players are still on the old machines since the new ones are still not readily available
Looks like the micro stutters and fps drops were a result of Denuvo. The DRM free cracked version is free from all these issues. Might be worth a look at.
I'm sure the game has a memory leak or something. If you experience stutters, lower frames etc. Go back to main menu and reload your save. Fixes the frame drop issue until frame rate drops again. Only fix I have found so far
I'm just about to watch the video, but I didn't have any major problems playing it on an RTX 2070 at near max settings with ray tracing off. There is the occasional hitch and slowdown during the fly swarms, but otherwise it seemed a lot more well optimized at launch than a lot of PC launch titles. Time to check out the video, see what's going on under the hood that I might not have noticed.
On the flip side; I'm running a low spec box with a FX6300 and a 1050 (3GB) and the game ran surprisingly well even though this is below the recommended min reqs. Didn't run any fps display or anything so as to not affect my perception of experience, just set everything to what seemed reasonable and went about my way. RE Engine continues to impress me, the poor gamer. (Edit: Oh yeah, should add I'm on a 1360x768 TV, so I get away with a bit more at this res.)
I'm so sick of TAA and FXAA... Give us normal AA solution ffs... I miss the DX9 era where we had MSAA, we could easily force it through control panel too.
It's a bit comforting to see you encountered the frame dips when enemies are killed and during encounters with the maidens in the castle. I have a pretty beefy rig, and thought I had set something incorrectly. From what I'm gathering, this doesn't happen on console? I'm still enjoying the game very much, but I do hope they patch these dips, and add an FOV slider.
I have same stuttering issue on rtx 3090 with model quality set to max 4gb , not 8gb . So yeah capcom prob try to back in time , when they released triple crown garbage ports = original re4 , original dmc3 and onimusha3
The tone of this one feels a bit harsh. I've been having an absolutely amazing time with this game in its launch state which is something I haven't been able to say about many releases lately. There are some issues, but no crashes, largely consistent performance, no gimmicky "create an account" stuff. If you're thinking about buying on PC I'd say go for it. It may get better with patches, but as is it's still gorgeous on PC in my opinion.
@@cheese_crab not really, the game hasn't changed that much since release, runs very well for some and stutters similar to this for others, RE Engine is sort of meh imo.
Was hoping you would talk about what seem to be memory leaks that have occurred for people including myself: the game performs perfectly for hours and then suddenly starts to stutter terribly (frame rate dropping from 60+ on RTX 3070 to sub 30 and looking terribly choppy) and I can only fix this by quitting to the main menu, where I continue and the performance is completely fixed. I also noticed that the game does not like me changing graphic settings in-game instead of the main menu. I tried changing resolution from 4K to 1440p in-game and my frame rate actually got WORSE. It’s bewildering stuff.
I played Village on my R9 290X + FX 8350 and though interiors rendered at 60fps the stuttering was INSANE each time i changed location, or an enemy jumped on me to bite me, there'd be a 2 second stutter. Anytime a scripted event like a jumpscare or enemy spawn occurred i'd get the hint cuz of the performance so a lot of surprises were ruined.

He didn't talk about the memory leaks, in which the game performance downgrades as you play it. Maybe he didn't experience this. And yes, the frame drops on those two scenarios happen on 30 series cards as well (3070 here).
If you can’t tell from the game footage they don’t get very far into the games that are tested, either from laziness or the fact that there’s so many versions to test.
Not sure if it's memory leaks or just broken logic. In my case, the framerate would randomly get fixed at 30 fps, usually following transitions between areas or from menus back to game.

People pay a lot for gpu’s these days and I don’t feel sorry for them in the slightest
Really great video, i wish more people would go into the performance settings in this depth. Really worth the wait!
Have you tried RE Village on PC Now that Capcom has owned up and fixed it ?
Wow. It took only 8 gens of hardware for PCMR to finally understand where the loyalties are 🤣

I wish Alex used more circles and arrows because so many of these things, even when I pause and stare for minutes, end up being, "Looks ok to me." Maybe that's because I watch the videos at 1080p.

Arrows and circles in this video can only be used on still frames (or moving ones) to point out something like dithering or mesh quality, etc.
You can't use circles and arrows for anything else in this type of video. Hence the reason why I asked you if you couldn't come up with that.

Definitely the PS5 considering the massive occasional FPS drops on PC (even on 3090).
Based on this review, the PS5 version. Sure the pc version looks prettier but the PS5 will run it better and it will still look beautiful. Trust me. I am loving it on the PS5 right now. It’s very smooth. To play with only a few noticeable frame rate dips.
Just lower some settings on PC until they fix it. No reason to overspend for less visual clarity on the PS5.
do you prefer Controller or MnK?
After checking out the demo, I decided to get the game on PS5 instead of playing it on my PC with an RTX 2070. Between the strange menu controls, the DualSense effects on PS5, and the framerate I was getting on PC with ray tracing on not being much higher than the PS5’s 60 FPS target, the PS5 seemed like the better option to me (it certainly helped that my PS5 had only just arrived a few days prior to that final demo becoming available). Seems that I made the right choice!
