- Search engine optimization has more misleading advice and shady "service providers" than anything I've seen online. This video is going to give you a solid grasp of the basics of SEO in just one video.
I really turned up the fire-hose on this one! lol. If you want to learn about a great course that breaks it all down step-by-step in a super easy to follow fashion, watch this video next: • Video
Search engine marketing and optimizing for search engines has helped my wife and I grow our business from the ground up with as little as $100 to start.
This small investment in a web hosting combined with a large investment of time and energy creating and publishing content and optimizing that content has led us to reach nearly 10 million people with 20 million page views in just seven years.
If you stay focused on the core concepts and the basics of SEO… Ignore the hype, the sales messages for the shiny "shortcuts" and shady "blog network" vendors you can build a solid website that drives hundreds of thousands of visits per month from the search engines, too.
It is always important to begin by thinking about the platform your publishing to, in this case it's Google, and what their goals are.
Understanding that the search engines goal is to deliver 1) highly relevant and engaging results for its users and 2) relevant advertisements so it can earn revenue you quickly can realize that becoming a partner of Google who publishes excellent quality and highly engaging content focused on what people are searching for is key.
You can help Google achieve their goals and in return Google will rank you high and drive traffic your way. The only "shortcut" there is to achieve success with search engine optimization and search engine marketing quickly, is to publish higher-quality content more often than your competitors. And for this I recommend you start with a 90 day challenge where you publish one excellent blog post every day for 90 days.
For a tutorial on how to create great SEO content, watch this video: • How To Create Content ...
Aside from simply publishing the content your content needs to be focused on a specific keyword which represents a core topic in the mind of your users.
Keyword research is how you get into the mind of your target visitor and understand what they're looking for what their needs are and where they are in the buying cycle so you can create and craft great content that answers their biggest questions while proving to Google that you are a quality publisher worthy of their users attention.
Here is my video where I show my exact process for doing keyword research... It is an hour-long consulting session I did for a close friend that I recorded to show you my exact process for professional keyword research: • Watch & Learn EXACTLY ...
The video goes deeper into how to structure your content marketing within your content management system in order to achieve maximum results. We look at what parts of page design and layout are important for you to focus on so you can trigger the most ranking factors in Google's algorithm for SEO and outrank your competitors.
From the title and descriptions to the headline, heading tags and the concept of turning your post into a multimedia destination are all covered at length. These are the techy nuts and bolts of SEO and there's really only a handful of them you need to understand in order to optimize your content marketing efforts.
There's definitely a lot of overlap from what is covered in this video and what was covered in the RUclips SEO video which you can watch here: • RUclips SEO - The Tric...
To be perfectly honest, if you really want to dominate at organic search engine optimization your best bet is to also dominate at RUclips SEO creating a content marketing strategy that leverages both video marketing and organic search engine marketing together.
This is why I have continued to mention content marketing because search engine optimization should really just be one pillar in an overall content marketing strategy…
Some people (who are often trying to sell you SEO courses) claim that the real "trick" to search engine optimization is all about outreach and getting other people to link to you. I am not from this school of thought and in the process of generating tens of millions of page views through organic search engine optimization, I've never really implemented this method.
Other videos you will find helpful are the keyword research video: • Keyword Research With ...

Watched the entire video and stayed entertained the entire time. Aside from the camera turning off you literally had zero edits. You have some insane speaking abilities man. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Right on Matt! glad my brain dump video kept you hooked… Kinda hopped on the soapbox a few times in that one
This video is equal to a bachelor degree in SEO. Thank you so much for the vital information! I will be watching this video over and over again until I get this SEO thing correct.
probably the best video on basic SEO with-out you literally showing us on a computer. You rock!
Wow, thank you so much for your kind words! I went back and forth on the idea of "showing you" what I meant or just sitting down and having a conversation like I would with a good friend… I think the big picture concepts of giving Google what Google likes is so much more important then "put this here, put that there". Glad you enjoyed it!
Dude, do you even stop to think? That is some super laser-focus and mental clarity in a 41 min video, great training!! :-)
Miles, every time I think I have "this" figured out it you always bring more. Thank you!
Right on, glad to hear I keep raising the bar!
Hey Miles, you are 100% right. As soon as did a research about what people were looking for on google for my niche I found out the right things to blog about. I also did some research on the competition and started writing better blog post then the first three competitors combined. It took me 30 hours to research, write, create images. graphics, etc for just one post. But only two weeks later I got to the top and now every single day I have a lot of visitors reading my article. I wrote more articles using the same style and the average time of users on my blog is much higher now. I see people discussing PBN and other stuff all the time, but right now I not paying attention to this... I just have my focus on write good content because it's working as never before. Thanks for the video, I'm super inspired.
Right on man! Ignoring the shiny (fake) shortcuts and putting in the work definitely creates results!
I wish you continued success!!!
This video has given me the complete feeling of inception when it comes to thinking about the best link to click when you search on google "SEO tips and tricks"
Hehehe... A sneak peek behind the curtain!
You are right. When blogging came in we did three blog platform and my company came up on first page. But for those who give up. We had distractions. And all “distractions are equal” we stopped and things went down. Soooooo thanks for encouraging us to do videos. We are back just after two videos that are not that great but I need to continue. Thank you. Thank you!
with practice, everything improves
You have truly inspired me.
going through all "complete seo 2017 guides" etc etc videos on the tube. This one is by far the most honest. Backlinks matter but shouldn't be obsessed over like a lot of SEO experts make it out to be. Paying random guys on fiverr/konker ~$50 to quad digits for shady backlinks to cheat the system will make you suffer. instead, focus on quality content like Miles. SEO is long term growth and Miles did great up here. Cheers! Subscribed!
Glad that came through and happy to hear you liked this video. Thanks for the awesome comment!
Lmao, yes i did in-fact pause the video, grab my notebook, rewind and start again. I love all your videos! Thank you for everything! I'm putting a free full page plug for you in my blog because you really have helped me tremendously!
Thank you kindly Tony I appreciate the shout outs and links to milesbeckler.com. Glad you liked this one! :D
Brother Miles, I just watched your video for the fourth time, your energy is refreshing. Thanks for getting back to me with a thank you,. I was shocked a busy guy such as your self would take the time. I am spending 3 to 4 hours a night just learning from you and your ideas, there are so many idiots on youtube that over complicate or under state the work and processes involved with seo and ranking. you my friend have found the perfect balance with a no bull shit honesty that most any video publisher on youtube could learn from. I fully enjoy learning from your videos and have been sharing them with everyone i know who wants to know more on this subject. I really want to thank you for all the time you put in for us who want to know and posses the ability to be successful on the web and all our campains. You are a good man with a good heart and soul and it shows. Peace to you and yous godbless. Wayne Jordan
Wayne, that was awesome! Thank you very much for your kind words and I totally appreciate your willingness to share the content!
It feels amazing to me for this opportunity to be of service and is one of those things where my personality, experiences, education, and my DNA all aligned to make these videos really work. So the way I see it… It be rude not to make these videos!
:D
I truly appreciate your comment!
I think that this and your RUclips SEO video's are the best of the bunch. I really like the fact that you promote hard work and relevant content. You're absolutely right, Google's people are the "Smart kids in the class" with A.I. gaining ground daily, it's impossible to game the system.
+Steve Cory Consulting definitely the one-two punch that has built our business! All the funnels and FB ads are simply reinvesting in or doubling down on content marketing
Wow! Thank you so much Miles. I am learned now. I am an all-time content writer and this video certainly sums everything up! You honestly honed my skills. Thank you again.
I'm glad you found this
Amazing vid Miles. It really all takes much more time than I expected if you want to do it right. I know people on RUclips who have produced hundreds and hundreds of quality videos but just because they don't know how to optimize their content they haven't grown a bit! For myself, I have started uploading and even 1 video a day seems very overwhelming as I run a startup as well. I can just publish but if I want to do it right, 1 video literally takes all day if I do it all by myself.
Valid points... But don't get too hung up on production value... People like 'raw' and more authentic videos... It should get easier and quicker, but it is challenging
Thanks for the fast reply Miles! Sure will do. I'll just keep pumping out content.
Thank you so much Miles for this incredibly informative post!
I am now 5 articles into my 120 day blogging challenge, and this post has come out just in time for me to take in all the good stuff as far as how to structure my articles for maximum SEO!
I am currently subscribed to Squirrly which has helped significantly to helping me understand the importance of H1 tags, of ensuring that my URL has the specific keyword I have researched in it, ensuring that these keywords reflect a number of times in my articles, adding images and naming them as the keywords I have used in the articles, etc.
What you have taught me that I didn't know was how exactly to use these H1 tags, so now I shall structure my articles exactly as you have indicated!
Also, linking to high quality websites like Wikipedia and others that concern the specific niche I am involved in.
Thanks again Miles, I really want to take my website rankings from the current bottom of the pile to a decent place, and I know this is the absolute best way to go!
Have a fantastic weekend, you and your beautiful wife!
Thanks for your kind words Sheila, I'm glad the content is helpful!
Getting comfortable in the keyword tool is of the utmost importance, too!
It is through these "little things" that we are able to out research, out optimize, and eventually outrank our competitors! Remember that it's a marathon so set a solid pace and publish publish publish! :D
No problem Miles! Publish publish publish is all I'm going to do!!
Hi, Miles, I listened to every word you said on your video from start to finish. Wonderful tutorial and well-explained route to get SEO done correctly. Very much appreciated for making this tutorial for improving my site. Thanks
My pleasure... Keep it crispy, crispy! :D
Miles, you are a blessing. THANK YOU!! I may have missed this but how many times do we need our keywords in our content?
Donna Harris Good question!
Great video! Finally, someone who breaks down the complexity of seo best practices; as a brand manager, i at least need to know seo basics to be able to sell it properly as an advisor to a client and know what to look for in an seo team; Miles' macro-level view of proper seo practices seems to solidify sound understanding in a non-snake-oil voo-dooo-digital-magic salesy way; the only thing I wanted to see more of in this video was screensharing of a sample web page showing what Miles is referring to visually while he narrates; 41 minutes of a 'static' shot video without any white boarding or was a tad exhaustive - yet great info nonetheless;
Man I wish a whiteboard fit my lifestyle!!!!! I'm a whiteboard nerd.
Check out this video too... It is a bit more about the practical application of these ideas adding on keywords. ruclips.net/video/O_FfdjNOgpQ/видео.html
About 4 and a half or 5 min in, we go to screen-share! :D
That was super good! Finally, I was tired of all the blackhat that I listen from most everyone. Plus this is way more simple than all the other blackhat stuff. Simple but not easy.. lol
Thanks again!
You definitely got that right about the simple but not easy part.
So many people are going for the quick win… And it never lasts long term. I can't tell you the number of times people told me "you should just do this and you get even better rankings" when they're clearly talking about a black hat method.
Most of those people are not in the game anymore and watched their side hustles crumble whereas my wife and I have built a real business that will absolutely take care of us for the rest of our lives as long as we continue to keep publishing great content and continue to prove ourselves as excellent publishers in our niches.
The ability to delay gratification is imperative! Seems like you've made a very positive mental shift here which will serve you greatly for years and years to come!
That is super cool! Yup, that's what I want to do. Have a real asset.
Thanks for the great content!
I turned on the SEO firehose on this one… A ton of actionable content in here! Give me questions about what I covered for free to ask here in a comment below!
Does this work for product marketing? Or just content marketing?
Great stuff . Although I knew most of this stuff , I appreciate you encouraging the blogging everyday . Something I will be doing more of .
+Power Surf SEO Great to hear! Consistently publishing has done wonders for my wife and I
I really wanted to watch this video. Not because I don't know this, but exactly the opposite xD I wanted to see what you came up with on this topic man, since I'm basically a full time SEO. Good for someone starting up.
I like it how you really not edit videos, just speak at them. I don't really post every day, not even for my clients as content gets more than one day of work most of the time. But, Brian Dean's approach to it also works. It's still a challenge, but it's like 90 week. Once per week. Viperchill probably posts once per month. That's still consistency.
And what I can notice is that you keep mentioning consistency throughout all your videos, not just this one, which is the true key to all doors.
I know it's a huge subject. I did skip a little, I'm sorry if I missed it and you did mention it. I think it's really important to also plan some promotion for your content to get maximum results. I know PBNs and spam are bullshit, but the truth is, links still matter the most in rankings.
So it sounds like I passed the test… :)
You are 100% right about links still being a powerful ranking factor... Did you see Google's video about how to hire an SEO and what to look for that they posted a couple days ago? ruclips.net/video/piSvFxV_M04/видео.html she walked the fine line of "yeah it's about links" but "don't go by links" very well.
Here was my big challenge I had in creating this video. Positioning the power of links as it stands today could be incredibly misleading and potentially detrimental to people who are new in this arena.
It could also lead people to think that they can go out and "get links" to get rankings which may work, but could just as easily backfire and de-indexed their domain and break all kinds of havoc. The big challenge is the question of their level of sophistication with SEO and links.
As a pro-SEO you probably get the difference between a no follow link, a do follow link and a link with poor DA/PA and a high spam score, versus a quality link…
I assume 95% plus of the people who watch this video have no idea what that means or how to research and analyze those numbers and if they thought that "links are key" that seed of thought will lead them towards a slippery slope that could wreak havoc on their domain.
You see, I have a responsibility to every viewer to make sure that what I'm teaching them can be a bulletproof strategy they can count on for years to come.
Are backlinks going to continue to be the biggest ranking factor when Google's AI takes over? www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-10-26/google-turning-its-lucrative-web-search-over-to-ai-machines
Maybe....
Will incredibly relevant hyper focused and in-depth articles and blog posts that truly are the most valuable piece of content on a specific topic remain as a key ranking factor when AI takes over?
Absolutely.
Google has been trying to figure out a way to remove links as ranking factors for years now. They've gone through phase after phase of removing clearly rubbish links and they made some very powerful strides forward in the fight against search engine spam.
They've also made a few updates that had some serious collateral damage and hurt the rankings of high-quality sites in the process… So they're not perfect.
In my professional opinion, all the data suggest that Google is trying to figure out a way to rank sites and to display its search engine results pages with the best quality content in a way that does not use links as a ranking factor. But this is a massive challenge for them! Will it take one year? Three years? Five years? To reach that goal? I don't know.
What I do know is that creating the best content in your niche focused on answering the questions that users have when they search on Google will always be perceived as valuable in Google's eyes. Not to mention that when we create content that is so powerful other publishers look at it and think "damn there's no way I'm going to re-create that or skyscraper method that... I'm just going to link to it" the natural links will come.
I totally appreciate your time and your willingness to comment here… I love the advanced conversation and wish you continued success in everything that you are doing!
Firstly, heaps of admiration for you and your work ethic mate, what a trooper! Just a question, is it worth my time to try to do SEO rankings on a shopify store or is wordpress just the be all and end all?
Actually Shopify does pretty well with SEO from what I've heard... You can also add on a wordpress blog at YourShopifyStore dot com/blog if you want and then go content crazy there, linking posts back to your product pages.
I would definitely do keyword research and write long copy for every product page in Shopify too!
Amazing content Miles! I highly appreciate your work!
Linda
That was great....The best practical and usable information on content SEO ever.
Great to hear!
Hey Miles! This is awesome. What was your approach when selling SEO to clients? They are usually not willing to wait years to get results. How did u tackle that? What kind of backlink strategy would u use? Thank you!!
Answered in the live for you based on your other comment
Great video. helped me a lot! Need to ask you something tho. What are your views about Squarespace?
Closed system = danger zone! WordPress is the only real choice... Not only open source, but better for SEO
Haha... Miles you’re hilarious. You got me at the apology to your parents! (Each one of my adult kids has spent time in the ‘basement suite’’... glad to know it’s not just us.) A really great video... thank you!
So many little details I didn’t know about, thank you so much! I do have a question though, I use an app to make animations and stories and it would be a little hard to use my keyword search phrases “which would be the app name and a few variations of it” in the actually video since it’s telling a story. I hope my explanation hasn’t confused you. Any tips on how to still optimize your tips with this?
Such great info in this!! Thank you! Question for you; I'm looking to update and optimize our website and am definitely thinking we need to switch our Blog over to WordPress.org. Now, I'm new to this whole side of things so this may seem like a dumb Q, but curious if we need to switch the whole site to WordPress or just the Blog? I guess I'm just not sure if WordPress is for websites, or just blogs. Thank you!
Thanks for this amezing suggestion movitivation to be stayed log term in online. Sir please can you provide complete st up of blogspot header section. Because it is very difficult to bigginer and some issue always facingfacing.
Be sure you go through my free learn seo class ruclips.net/video/A8EI6JaFbv4/видео.html
Hi Miles, I've been binging on all your SEO videos. Now I know how to find the gold keywords and have a rough strategy to get traffic. However, I'm not an expert in my niche at all. I have a general interest but def not enough to write a 2k word blog post about.
Also I dont have finances to hire decent writers to churn out the 250 pieces of content a year you suggest. I could go to Fiverr, but the quality there is really poor and the writers simply arent capable of writing 2k word posts so I'd be against it.
I do have time on my hands - roughly 3 hours per day around my day job.
Please can you offer any advice on what you would do in my situation? Would really appreciate a response.
Cheers!
Study! Get familiar with your local library and BECOME the expert!
Thanks for the reply! Im gonna tackle it like this:
Establish my primary and secondary keywords and build out all the headings H1,H2, H3 tags. And then fill in the body copy using research. Tackle each blog post in chunks.
My content wont be “perfect” pieces of art. But I’ll get better eventually. Time to shovel some ‘pony poop’ in the next 12 months! :D
Thank you for the great information! When building an Authority post "The ultimate guide..." - How to redirect content from multiple posts to the main page without making duplicate content?
Don't redirect, just internal link... Write different copy on different pages... So if you have an ultimate guide to skateboards and you talk about longboards, trick boards, electric boards, those can each have their own in-depth review.
Takes a lot of content, but that is the cost to play!
Thanks for the quick response! Will definitely get that quality content out.
Where do you find a writer and editor? Is there a place you recommend?
Thank you :)
+jovany memije UpWork
Hi Miles!, thank you so much for sharing ur knowledge with us!, how much keywords would u recommend as a standard in a page?
There is no set rule... enough to prove relevance, but not too many so it looks like you are keyword stuffing!
hey there! absolutely love your content.
I watch your videos daily and am in love with your content. I love your idea about being 'of service to audience '....awesome advice, keep it up!
but i have one question if you can kindly answer.
I am newbie in blogging and am looking forward to start a blog.
.Should/can I start a blog on an expired domain with good metrics ? I have heard it helps. Because in googles eyes we have already established some authority.
what do you suggest.?
would love to hear from you!
it doesn't matter. Expired domain or a brand-new domain is not going to help you be of service to your audience or hinder you in being of service your audience.
I know you are crazy busy but if you have a sec I would greatly appreciate your suggestion. I posted a couple of articles on Medium first. What would be the best way to have those articles on my website as well? Thanks in advance!
I would re-write them so you have a 100% unique version on your site.
Sorry Mom and Dad for that awkward experience, haha
Thanks!
Hey Miles great video! Can you please make a video showing how to link a/ your Pinterest image to make a back link there? Thanks
Man, this is awesome. Great videos Miles. I use 1and1 for all 5 of my domains.
Glad you like the video
Superb Content. Thanks Miles
Man! I wish I had found you 2 years ago!! All way's great Value
Bro you are amazing, appreciate every video
Con gusto!
Hi Miles, what is your approach about link building? strategically, only pure and epic content?
I don't really do any link building
Do you have anything or any advice on how to move a website from somewhere else like a wix or weebly over to wordpress while minimizing any loss of rankings you may have already built?
If you set up 301 redirects you will be fine… it is a tiny bit tacky, but that is the the same content on your new site
Wow Miles! Thank you
you are very welcome
Miles how do you shoot your videos? Notes? Teleprompter? Freewheel it?
+Scott M Sullivan freewheel it... Sometimes I have notes and if my memory serves me I had a few notes on this one... But 98% of my vids I just have an idea and just start... Sometimes I'm surprised with what comes out! 🤣
Hi Miles, am watching your videos throughout the day. They are so nice. So much love from India. Could you Please recommend me a good theme for my blog...
www.milesbeckler.com/thrive
Clear and concise, love it!
Yes! It was a bit long, but dense with info. Glad you enjoyed!
Hi Miles, I watched your Learn Seo video and this one which is now 165mins and you guided about total On Page SEO Activity.
Can you please let me know about Some Off Page SEO Activities like Directory Submission, Search Engine Submission, Social Bookmarking and Blogs, Sitemaps, Robot.txt and more of it. As I always did On Page Seo only but my keywords never got ranked in top 3 searches. Please give total info about off page SEO activities.
I know you don't go into backlinks and fake stuff like others are guiding to do, but there are other off page SEO activities which lead to ranking. On my every Post "Keyword" - I have A video, Content of 500+ words and internal link and one authority out link to another relevant high ranking website. But still I am on page 2 and page 3, but my competitors with almost none of this rank in top 3. I am just getting 95% users to my website from RUclips and Pinterest. Just 5% of organic Google searches which has made lose faith over On Page SEO. I can show you my Case if you want to.
I really don't do much at all with off page seo. A few quora links, twitter links and blog comments, but not chasing backlinks by any means... I focus more on publishing more great content.
Do you have 100 excellent... And I mean the best in your niche/location... Posts on the 100 most relevant topics in your niche yet?
Making sure your sitemap is setup right is key, too: ruclips.net/video/vwJGmHHa1Yg/видео.html
great video man, massive help.
Great to hear
yes thank you for these video it helping a lot for my buisness!!!
It is my pleasure… I'm happy to help.
Thank you for this info, GREAT CONTENT there are so many people that I have watched that use many types of visual tools i just feel more confused afterwards, great job this was hands the down the most informative straight damn forward message ever, I know I'll have to watch it a few more times to get it all. but I have have a question please... I understand what you are saying about the importance to using WordPress, but I have just built my site in Weebly, which I consider on a scale of 1to10 difficulty level its maybe a 4-5 for a beginner, for a beginner using WordPress can you give me your idea of its difficulty level? Thank you.
Once you understand a few key things in wordpress it is easy... But there is a learning curve. The most important thing to remember is that WordPress is like a racecar and Weebly is like a commuter car...
You are in a race with your competition... Do you want a highly optimized race car or a commuter car?
This post shows the basics of how to setup WordPress: www.milesbeckler.com/clickfunnels-alternative/
you mentioned Shared Hosting with SSL for $15/mo. but I didn't see a link?
can you tell me which host you use?
I'm currently on Inmotion, switched from Bluehost, thinking about A2, what are your thoughts?
+Abstract Painting Techniques with Andy Morris A2 is my top choice for shared hosting - www.milesbeckler.com/hosting
cool I'll check them out.
do you recommend Dedicated IP Address? and what is it?
Superb Miles. I'v got a website in Wix and I'm now wondering whether I should jump to Wordpress. I don't see us publishing many blogs etc right now, it's more of a reference for clients to know we exist, but things can change so not sure.
Also, without giving too much away... my business will be focusing alot on video content rather than text. Essentially we want to try and deliver our messages (brand story, what we do, testimonials) in a short snappy video rather than pages of text. I presume this would negatively affect our seo ranking, but not sure if that's something we even need to be concerned with right now?
Final thing - is there a way to contact you privately? I have some confidential business stuff I would like to bounce off you if possible.
+Mark Priest I would always recommend building on WordPress. But if an organic SEO/ Google traffic system isn't in your plan then a switch doesn't seem like it'd be a priority.
Sounds like building a solid RUclips channel is a way to go...
I don't do any one on one stuff at this time. Just commenting on my phone when I can.
Hi Miles, You & your wife sound like you make an amazing team. Just a quick question, is there any way to somehow incorporate Wordpress (and the ability to use keywords with SEO) into an already existing HTML website?
Kind of... You can install the wordpress blog at yoursite.com/blog and leave all the html stuff where it is currently.... Obviously if you already have a /blog you would need to choose another name.
Personally, I always try to help people get on one unified system... Obviously wordpress is my recommendation for that. But sometimes it is not possible... and installing WP to a sub folder is the answer in those cases
Miles, you mentioned that this video will provide a large amount of written content. Do you recommend somewhere to have transcriptions done, or do you do all of your own?
Ah, you answer this at the end of the video. Thanks
:D Way to make it through... Had to drop the teaser in the beginning to keep you hooked!
between wordpress.com and wordpress.org which one will be able for getting to top page of SEO. My self I found that it easiler to make web base on wordpress.com, no need to set up hosting. Any suggestion for me? Thanks Miles
+thep tech fine to start with the .Com and get the content machine going... I do think you can optimize a .Org site better but it is not a big improvement and publishing content is a better priority.
If you want to build a funnel you will definitely need to be on a self hosted site
thanks Miles
Miles could you possibly make a video on how to submit an article about yourself on Wikipedia so that when people search your name you have Your photos and info pop up. I think it's very important for building trust and credibility. All the famous people have it. I was doing some research on it but it seems like it's not as easy as I thought it is. You have to link reliable sources and publishing an autobiography is discouraged by Wikipedia.
It's just super cool if you could have your info and photos and books pop up when people search your name. What are your thoughts on the whole thing?
Never done anything on Wikipedia... I just put out content to make sure I own the first page of google for my name.
Cool. So what do I do to own the first page for my name? It's embarrassing. When I search my name a bunch of other guys come up. I have been pumping out blogs on my website too and I have linked it to my RUclips videos. I actually have the .com for my name but I still don't come up. It sucks.
Oh and what is the best SSL certificate for SEO? My host is A2 just like yourself.
The cheap one with A2 is fine...
To take over Google for your name, you need to build out a profile on many powerful websites in your name... And then you need to build content enough to outrank the others if they have strong content on Page 1. Basic SEO
Thanks for the fast reply Miles! Cool the Global one click Alpha SSL. Sure I'll purchase that one. A2 has so many options for SSL that it's confusing to choose from. I don't even know the difference. I asked them and they didn't explain the difference between them. much.
Sure man, I have profiles on social media platforms but the username isn't my name exactly unfortuantely. My instagram is very active but unfortunately it was in another username. I have chaneged it.
And you can start more! You can grab twitter, medium, linkedin, etc.
Does it affect your links pointing to your site when you change from HTTP to HTTPS?
Do you have to do anything like a 301 redirect or does it do it automatically?
+Michael Fresh Belief no need for 301 redirects the URL structure stays the same. I updated the site address in the wordpress settings to include the s
I think it cut off the last part of your answer
What do you do then after you beat the competition and finally start getting a ton of traffic? Is this where monetization comes in?
growing an email list would be my next step, but yes monetization follows
Miles Beckler that makes complete sense, email marketing! I always thought the main monetization model of websites is by Google Adsense. Now I'm starting to connect your ideas-affiliate marketing through email, selling products to email list, but PRIORITY should be given to High Quality Content Creation + SEO + Content Marketing
It's been a little bit since I had to use the keyword planner but it seems as tho there was a change with them not showing exact match searches ... do you know a work around without setting up a campaign?
Not really... I have been using the Keyword Finder tool and love it... www.milesbeckler.com/kwfinder You can get 3 free searches per day and can use it as a tie-breaker from the results you get from Google's tool. That said, I went for the lowest paid option because my wife and I do 20+ searches each on an average day. I'll do a video on it soon to cover the tool in depth.
I LOVE YOU MILES
a question: I found out that wikipedia articles doesnt cover my niche as much in detail as my blog posts does. What do you think about editing wikipedia articles myself and adding backlink to my posts as wikipedia article post? Is this blackhat, shady or do you see a pithole? :
+Vojta Kuzdas that community may squash your efforts. Probably easier ways to get great links but worth a try.
Wait so is the Skyscraper Technique dangerous, or is White Hat as long as you're getting quality links? In other words, there's no issue in seeking back links, as long as they're legit?
You are correct, done right it is completely white hat
Hey Miles, great video. Is shopify still bad for SEO and ranking in Google? I have a shopify site and am creating a blog for my main way of getting organic traffic. Should I use wordpress for this blog instead?
if you don't have previous WordPress skills then I would just stick to shopify. learning and managing a second platform could be overwhelming if you don't bring years of experience publishing online to the table. The risk of confusion and challenges is not worth the potential improvements
@@MilesB cool thank you!
Hi Miles, awesome video. I have an ecommerce store how the hack can i write 90 content blogs? do i have to write for each product or per category, whats the best?
+Jan Spaargaren do the keyword research around your products and maybe more importantly the problems your products solve... Then focus on the phrases that have the most potential return on your energy
Great Stuff, did you say you can use H2 and H3 Tag several times. Thanks
Ya, I'm comfortable with that... because under every main idea (H1) there can be sub ideas (H2s & H3s). But each post should be about one main idea only!
Each article is about one topic, Thanks for replying so fast on a Sat. Enjoy the weekend
Miles, in working to SEO posts, would one strategy be to write out the post title you like and then add on the search engine optimized keywords? Example: I started with "Your Dream Isn't The Key." But to try to SEO optimize, I could go with "Your Dream Isn't The Key--How to Achieve Your Goals"--where How to Achieve Your Goals is the part that I hope snags traffic? If this doesn't work, let me know. It's just that How To Achieve Your Goals as a stand alone title seems insanely generic...
+Tom Johnston totally... Part art part science! I would consider "How To Achieve Your Goals... & Why Your Dream Is NOT The Key" to get the keyword earlier if possible.
Miles Beckler totally makes sense. Thanks.
I have a wix site, will I loose my rankings if I transfer over to wordpress?
No. You can move over all your content. What you need to be sure and do is 301 redirect your old URLs to the new URLs were that same content lives. This will keep all of your SEO mojo in place even if the URL structure changes.
Perfect thanks! it's for an e-commerce business so if this is best I will swap it over thanks!
WordPress with Woocommerce is great for e-commerce, So is shopify.... Not my area of expertise but those of the two solutions I have friends using very successfully.
Same theory applies, when you move your products over to the new store if there at a different URL just 301 redirect the old URL to the new URL in your search engine Mojo will survive!
Perfect thanks! your vids are great!
Wow! That was heavy but sooo good. Man..you're awesome. Killer content. No Gateway. I'm pissed i didn't find you earlier in my business career. But binging now to make up time. If we are ever in the same city, I would love to treat you for lunch/coffee/ movie (LOL) - what city are you located?
Glad you found the channel... Welcome to the party! :D
I'm quite nomadic... In the NW right now.
What hosting do you recommend?
+Raqib Zaman www.Milesbeckler.com/hosting
i notice your vids start with you sitting there; we don't see you fiddling with the camera, so there must be some editing to it. what do you use to clip this out?
+Ethics Underground just the RUclips app on my phone... In the upload screen in the app, I trim the front and end so you don't see my goofy 'warm up' faces. :D
awesome, thank you. How did you do the template for your screen Jpeg?
Wifey did it! Took the background off my headshot, put me on white background... Made a blue rectangle and twisted it a bit... Found a font that looks like my chicken-scratch handwriting! Boom! :D
Wow, that is super similar! #Nice! Are you still working in this niche?
A big component to keep in mind is that you ultimately need to sell things to make good money. What kind of courses or items do you have for sale other than this book you mentioned? If you're going to be paying for advertising there has to be some sort of backend of your funnel that's ultimately going to make you money beyond the first sale. We put out new items for sale multiple times per month and at this point have offered nearly 200 different "things" to our audience to buy over the course of our business.
The important part is to focus in on who your target audience is then what are their biggest problems then how can you help them solve their problems with products you create or sell?
Becoming an advocate for your audience and a problem solver for them is how they will start to give you money and lineup for your services. But you have to understand them so intimately that you're able to get down to the true fears desires challenges that are below the surface and you got to help them solve those problems.
Last tip would be to find someone who is doing well in your space already in reverse engineer everything they are doing. if you're selling to the conservative market, go to the conservative news websites (with a browser that has no cookies)And look at what advertisements are being displayed… Then click through and look at what products are being sold… Continue to repeat this process until you get a great idea of what's being sold to this audience see you can understand where and how you fit in.
If this isn't your market that's fine… Go find them! If they are the liberal left go to the left news outlets if they are libertarians, go find those news outlets... There are thousands of websites that already have your audiences attention and there's millions of advertisements being displayed to them… Go find what's already working in reverse engineer that while adding your own take, your own spin, your own unique twist that ultimately sells your product
Omg, this video has SO much great information I am going to have to watch this a few times.. I'm kind of upset, you talk so much about word press and I had zero knowledge When I was setting up my website. I purchased wix website and have SO much on it. Do you know of a simple way to swap everything over 😭😭😭 going to take me Forever to switch over!!!
Awesome video and bang on with your advice so thanks Miles. I did notice your website isn't https though ;-)
+Duncan Bradford good catch..
Cobbler indeed has holes in his shoes! :)
Hey, we're all busy and things get overlooked from time to time right. We manage many sites within our own portfolio and I'm always spotting things that need attention or have been overlooked by one of the team.
@Miles Beckler This is Gold! Very helpful.. thanks alot :D
Glad you found this one!
Some host providers now offer free SSL ceritifcates. I use Hawkhost specifically for this reason. I also like 123rf.com for pics. It costs $1 per picture (for a 450px wide-ish picture) and one can purchase a $10 package, which is good for 10 pics at that size.
+Greg Borchardt there are free SSLs that work on all hosts. Pixabay images are free
Awesome Topic and Video haha.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yo, Miles. Wish I had more time to watch all these. Too busy producing more than consuming. Random question if you have time. I'm gearing up to start making videos. As you know, I am publishing on both MightyInvestor.com and TomJohnston.org. A few weeks in, I have a feeling my niche may take a decent-sized turn at some point here--as I'm still feeling my oats at this point.
It's really easy to go back and change something you wrote in a blog post, but a real pain to go back and redo the branding you do in your videos. So the stakes are higher to get this right. Within this context, am rethinking branding and considering making my videos as, "Hey, Tom Johnston from TomJohnston.org" rather than "Hey, Tom Johnston from MightyInvestor.com." Kind of want to get this right at the outset as videos are harder to tweak later. Welcome your thoughts on this if you have any. Cheers, Tom
Remember that these videos will be here for you when you need… And there is a search function on my channel to make it easy for you to find what will help you most at that moment!
You are not the first person to ask this question and I'm pretty sure I need to make a video on this since it's come up several times here in comments…
Seems like your gut instinct is pointing you in the right direction which, in my opinion, is to brand yourself. Using your name and keeping the brand centered around you gives you the most ability to grow, adapt, pivot in the future… Which are all going to happen.
Here's the cool part, as you grow and realize that you want to be more than just an "investment guy", the mighty investor can still be your investment-based funnel, product, coaching etc.
Then if your content begins to shift in a personal development direction the Tom Johnson.or brand could grow into that area more easily than "mighty investor"
is budgeting and investing a huge part of personal development? Obviously!
I hope I didn't confuse you more with this example, but I'm trying to show you how both can indeed work for you… But ultimately staying focused on branding yourself allows you the most freedom and the most room for growth (and the least limitations) over time.
Personally, I would consider "Tom Johnston" to be the brand and "mighty investor" to be a branch off of that brand that will probably ultimately become a funnel and paid info product.
Thanks, Miles. Super helpful. I will go with TomJohnston.org. (Yes the .com, .net, and all other permutations are long gone.)
I will be carving out time to watch all your SEO videos soon. I have completely ignored SEO knowledge till now as there is only so much you can learn at first--building a website, etc.
But will circle back and tweak blogs as needed. It's sort of a bummer that you can't just go with what seems the most creative in writing content, but this is the world we live in--and only a fool would neglect organic search results.
With practice you're going to find that you will still get to be extremely creative in your writing and you will be creating great search engine optimized content at the same time… Generally speaking it's just a few word tweaks here and there that make all the difference.
One big thing that I covered in the video is the idea/method of going back to older content and optimizing it… That is working really well right now, so continue to blaze forward with your challenge and ignore everything else as needed! All the pieces will fit together in that puzzle eventually :)
Just watched the vid. Super helpful. Tx.
so when you say make great content, how do you make great content? what are the components of great content?
Takes a lot of work! Well thought out, well researched, drafted, proofed, re-written, copy edited, neatly laid out posts.... That deliver more value than any post on the topic online.
How can one produce GREAT content every day for 90 days. I care for a 99 year old mother 24/7 so it leaves me little time to put in the time 'every day' for great content. It sounds like it would take me a week to research, drafted, proofed, rewritten, copy edited and nearly laid out and maybe even longer. I just don't have that luxury right now. Always being interrupted. Thanks Miles. I love your delivery. I understand more now than I have in years.
I literally watched from 0:00 to 41:25
+Arron C 😎👍
totally embarrassed i didn't get up to speed earlier on your SEO videos. not checking keywords etc and crafting smart titles is like setting up a barbershop in the industrial zone of the city rather than on main street--then hoping for business. dumb....;)
+Trey Johnston all a part of the learning curve.... Great analogy, by the way. I may use that one
You ended it with 'you can make a lot of money'. So how do YOU make money with your content?
+Ethelyn Schaeffer digital products, physical products, affiliate promotions, advertising, membership program, joint ventures.
What is your site?
Have several, but milesbeckler.com is my personal digital home.
Using those suggestions, how do you think I should make money in my proprietary pain relief program? You say I should tell it all. I think I'll have to. I'm thinking making money will come from a written 'course' on pain relief, ebook, kindle book, potentially a proprietary physical product. However none of them are big money makers. Hopefully I'll get some speaking engagements, consulting jobs and professional athlete contracts. Your suggestions are appreciated. I'm scared of 'revealing it all'! But you are right. It's more important to have a dedicated following than making a LITTLE on saving something for later. I also will offer personal coaching for pain relief. Thanks
What were the first couple of online courses that you took that started you on your online journey ?
+Brent Peluso none... Couldn't afford any. Just lurked forums and read, read, read.... Then figured out the basics of content marketing and SEO and started publishing.
So Boss
