  • A short, but challenging conclusion to our Polish campaign!
    In this scenario, you play as Jogaila, who must face off against the Teutonic Order with the Polish Army and his brother Vytautas. You have only a short while to complete all of the optional objectives, each of which gives you a boost for the final battle. After the timer elapses, it's a matter of winning an all-out fight against the crusaders!

    I really love what they choose for those 3 campaigns, as in reality it's one big whole, starting from Lithuanians in their strugles, through their alliance and union with Poland against Teutonic Order, against which Bohemians helped the Union, after which they themselves needed to face crusade of Europe. I love the fact, that instead of 3, 6 maps campaigns, we got 1, 18 maps one

    Yeah, that transition from Jadwiga to Jogaila was heartbreaking.
    I also want to point out that their marriage was probably the most important marriage in history of Europe.
    It wasn't just one royalty marrying another royalty but it was one ruller marrying another ruller - Jadwiga (king of Poland) married Jogaila (grand duke of Lithuania).
    Thanks to this marriage Poland and Lithuania were united under one crown from 1386, then in 1569 they truly became one country (known as Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth).
    For some time it was the biggest coutry in Europe, there was even a period when they had access to 3 seas.
    Then in 1795, as a result of the partitions, they disappeared from the maps for over 100 years. Officially they separeted in 1918 when after WW1 they came back as saparate countries under Russian influence. Then WW2 happened and they disappeared again, they regained their full freedom from Russia only little over 30 years ago.
    So you can really say that history of Poland and Lithuania has been connected since their wedding, till recenty.

      They should made a TV show about Jogaila and his father Olgierd (he had around 14 siblings and 20 kids with 2 wifes so there was a lot of fighting over the power). It's literally Game of Thrones but better with people fighting to get the throne, plotting behind each other's backs and poisoning/killing other relatives.

    The scenario isn't about not spending gold, it's about collecting as much as possible, 6 tc boom send most vills to every gold and stone mine you can find and create pikemen + arbalest, and protect the arbs and siege at all costs
    I managed to get every town, trade workshop, fortress, hired a mercenary company and I didn't even ally with the Lizard Union (for the achievement)
    Spending so much vill time gathering food for hussars that get countered by EVERY TEUTON UNIT doesn't make much sense
    (took me a few tries to realize this, but it's the best strategy imo)
    You also have to remember where the Teuton patrols are and run into them when you got enough soldiers and not before that, and where every gold and stone mine are to send a fuck ton of vills there
    Still, good vid Ornlu, this is just for people who are struggling with it 11

    This final scenario's intro and outro broke me. From Jadwiga being gone, 2 weeks after losing her daughter, to the end where Jogaila calling back to Jadwiga's line during the first scenario intro able the bell tolling and noticing how everything is is... palpable. That broke my heart and nearly brought me to tears. I didn't know Jadwiga died before the end, I thought she lived long and prosperous. But now I know the truth. And that truth... is bitter as the polish winter...
    The scenario itself stressed me to no end because I wanted to do everything. But in the end, I couldn't get either Fortress, but got everything else instead. So victory was assured and easy. And Vytautas pulling that Tatar move raised my spirits and helped me push to my victory with Purple against Grey and the Master of the Order. A perfect way to end the scenario and campaign.
    I even chose Jan Zizka as my mercenary, so I'll be able to experience him again in his campaign with the Bohemians.

The first run I ended up getting the achievement for killing Ulrich and Nicolas. When I replayed it the second time I went with Obuchs and Winger Hussars. I don't know if it was the combination of trample damage with the armor stripping but this scenario felt like a case study for how effective Obuchs can be. I was absolutely shredding through everything. I was still able to comfortably reach 10K gold even with Obuch production. Also, it is nuts how truly good Arbalests are with the hill advantage in the final battle.

  • @robbiehotz6462
    @robbiehotz6462 2 года назад +5

    I believe the key to winning this is the Teuton fortress in the center. It splits your forces from Vytautas. If you can eliminate it before he sacks 3 Prussian towns you can then unite with him to sweep the rest of the map. Otherwise after sacking 3 TC his forces will die in an assault on the fortress. Also micro managing goes a long way in this scenario. Your initial force can deal some damage if managed well. In the second half you have to hold long enough for vytautas to sweep in on the flank with cavalry. He will always defeat the Prussian cavalry with his Tatar maneuver. If you survive long enough he will sweep in on the right occupying the enemy and you can execute a pincer. Your army contains Obuchs. These are key in dismantling the Teutons heavy armor. Teuton units are slow and weak to archer fire while your army contains Winged Hussars with an excellent attack bonus vs the teutons hand cannoneers. Even without all the upgrades or mercenaries it's still possible to win through tactical strategy

    That's funny to see that Vytautas in real life just escaped from field of battle, and when Polish army almost did everything, returned with words : "THAT WAS TATAR MANEUVER". But... That's just a game.
    One of best story of all campaigns. I like that Aoe2 made me cry, because Jadwiga is really perfect person for campaign. I was afraid that this gonna be just about Jogaila at most, but no, she is still a main character of this perfect story. She was escorted from her real home to Poland , her people didn't let her marry William, her people married her on Jogailo... She was 12 and he was 25+... And she lost her daughter and her life... So dramatic, in real life, but LordBasse made her history more sad and better... Like a film. And i'm so grateful to artist who made all pictures, because he made a interesting images of Vytautas, Jadwiga and Jogaila(But campaign starts at 1380, and end at 1410,but Jogaila and Vytautas looks still young... But also that's great images! Or they were Vampires🤔)

    *Pro tips*
    At the start, order Jogaila to attack the walls of the closest Prussian town (you have to deal with the Halberdiers, towers and archery range first) all the way down, he levelmaxed out!!! And please, DON'T destroy the TC, it will ruin the trick!!
    Also, you must send like 10 initial peasant to the gold mine, and mining those close to the town-being-attacked-by-Jogaila and some others. 10K gold is achievable in this manner.
    Create a horde of Winged Hussars with all the upgrades plus Trebuchets and forwards castles and destroy the fortress in the middle.
    And last but not least, before the final battle, make TEN of your light cavalry to go south - below the spawn of Arbalesters, there is an open space in a U shape - and patrol. This will grant you the insurance policy of continuing in the fight even if you are down to just one man, Jogaila maxed out ideally.

  • @mannycalavera8746
    @mannycalavera8746 2 года назад

    i think that it depends of wich objectives you take the importance of the gold. In my case i made a army of arbalest and obuchs and destroy the 5 prussians towns, speak with the lizards and then in the battle i fight using countes. it matters how you fight not only the numbers.

  • @luciangrand1943

    Completing all the side quests is REALLY hard but rewarding. I kind of cheesed it by not destroying the nearby Prussian camp and having Jogaila hit the wall for quite a while, since he maxes out at 860 HP so he needs 20 boosts, so I think that's the hardest one. I beat this mission fairly easily. I was able to make 3 trebs and a small army of arbalasts and pikemen with my starting soldiers and light cav in toe. Its worth it to spend gold on the arbalasts and blacksmith upgrades because you need to fight quickly against the Teuton forces and the arbalasts mow down the teutonic knights while the pikemen deal with the paladins/horses. If you defend your arbalasts and trebs all you have to make are light cav and pikemen which dont cost gold.
    In my first run I was able to complete all the objectives except one Teutonic castle. I feel like if I did it again, I'd send a few villagers to make a castle outside each Teuton base, lure the soldiers out, then once they all die to the castle, treb their buildings. The Teutons dont have siege weapons luckily, so it's best to take advantage. Also green killing the northern Town Center is clutch haha

    I liked this whole campaing very much. I really hope, that if we get more DLCs, we'll have more campaings designed by Lord Basse.
    I have 2 very minor compalints tho. One is that the one big, Imp, build and destroy mission we have in the campaing (map 5) is played as the Lithuanians and not as Poles. I don't know why this is, maybe Poles don't shine that much in these kind of missions and it was better to show them off in castle age in map 2? Or maybe for historical accuracy. It is just wierd that the civ this campaign is built on doesn't get one.
    The other, and I really should blame history for this, is the Polish Winged Hussars are not really useful in any of the missions. On the missions you can train them, you always go up against the Teutonic Order and they really not a useful unit against them.
    That said, this was one of the best campaings I played so far. Offered challange, a good story, interesting scenarios... What else could I ask for?

    • @Duke_of_Lorraine
      @Duke_of_Lorraine 2 года назад +9

      I guess the reason why we play as the Lithuanians is because it's technically a sideshow with Vytautas doing his own things somewhat independantly from Jadwiga & Jogaila. It ties well with Vytautas using the same move in the next scenario, and the fact that it's an union of 2 kingdoms instead of Poland outright conquering Lithuania.
      It would have been a separate battle scenario if the polish and lithuanian campaigns were not linked to that extend.
      As for the winged hussar, it's somewhat an anachronism in the first place, only appearing in Poland in the late 16th century

    • @tryagain6691
      @tryagain6691 2 года назад +1

      @@Duke_of_Lorraine I mean, these are more meta complaints. They way they connected the first and second (and the third a little bit) campaing together is fantastic. Map 5 makes sense, fits into the narrative and a fun scenario. On the other hand, the whole of the Lithuanian campaing is build and destroy with a little twist every time, so I would have preferred to play Poles for once.
      I mean, sure, but since winged hussars are in the game and the polish imp tech focuses on them, I would have liked to use the at least once.

    I'm personally of the opinion that aggressive Castle drops are the best way to deal with Imperial Age Teuton AIs that don't make siege.

    3 times for this scenario ? I did it in one go. You don’t have Pikemen , which will do the work against the Cavalry , and you are not even dropping castles so that you get extra help. Jez man.

    Annoyingly, getting the orange faction to leave the field prevents you from getting the achievement.

    Loved the Jadwiga campaign, but was annoyed at this scenario; it is so beautifully designed and tells you to "build up your army" with an economy and by doing objectives, yet in the end, everything is deleted and you get assigned units (more or less, depending, yes yes). Should have been the player's choice which units, and also to put them to the battlefield themselves, choose formation etc. Obviously make the battlefield rigged with triggers preventing you from building castles on it to cheese it.
    In the Yodit scenario with Sumanguru marching to battle you had a much more organic way of playing it, building your army at your base, while a foraging party goes around the map decimating the enemy production and reinforcements before the battle starts.

    I'm surprised at the comments below, this mission (on hard of course) can be done pretty much only with the starting vills (or near enough)... Granted, in this way I cannot besiege the Teutonic fortresses, but it is enough to hire the mercs and win the mission (I did it without the achieve, seeing as how I had already done it, but I'm sure it would have been possible anyway). You just have to, you know, micromanage your unit and don't send them as a single big blob at the end, some manoeuvering is actually permitted and intended lol ;). (I even forgot to do most of my upgrades and it didn't matter, finished the battle with troops to spare and the Lithuanian Army nearly intact.)

    A bit of spoiler
    The atmosphere and story of the third campain is so different that i think this should be the Finale instead
    I know time line and stuff but this feels like a real finale to a story cobined with the first campain

      I think of the third campaign as the side story/epilogue of the side character. The real polish lithuanian main story ends here.

    The only thing I dislike about this campaign is the name. It's not the story of Jadwiga, it's Jogaila/Vytauyas', she's only the narrator. It's like naming El Cid's campaign "Jimena". Jadwiga seemed like a mere counselor. I'd love to know more about the concrete things she did

    • @zeroyuki92
      @zeroyuki92 2 года назад +2

      Jadwiga IRL is a legit co-ruler of Polish-Lithuania though. She's really active diplomatically, acts independently in tandem with her husband, and also did a lot of domestic efforts to stabilize and improve Poland as a whole. Sure, I don't think she fights personally in wars IRL, but neither are most IRL priests/monks -- heal and convert is a game mechanic that partially represents act of mediation and morale support during war. Since she's a saint and is genuinely an iconic ruler of Poland, I don't think devs deciding her as the ruler in *Polish* campaign is a bad move at all, especially considering that Jogaila's family has been the focus of the first campaign -- and her being depicted as a monk hero in tandem with her husband is just fitting.

      @@zeroyuki92 I don't deny that. In fact I'd love to read a book about her. But I feel that, in the AOE2 campaign, there is a discrepancy between the pre/post scenario narrative and the gameplay narrative. I feel like she tells Jogaila/Vytautas' story, and that's what you play, but you don't get to play some Jadwiga's historical events (maybe some diplomatic mission, I don't know her story). What I'm trying to say is that I feel like she's not the protagonist of her own campaign.

    Jogaila was presented perfectly in cutscenes but I'm kinda threw off with those slapstick moments. Like they tried to push too much into one campaign. Some of that was just not fitting, considering overall mood that they're going for. And I kinda hate that Grunwald design - it just looks goddamn weird. I would rather see it as 1/1 split, not some right cornery rectangle thingy. As for battle itself goes, English version seems a little bit off, at least for Polish culture. He wasn't portrayed as that , it was rather calm response in manner of: . Here is quote from Polish movie adaptation of historical novel by H. Sienkiewicz.
    ruclips.net/video/YBs4a4Io49I/видео.html
    As you can see, it both contradicts with Polish culture (which is of course just you know, minor aspect) and mood that is set in ending cutscene. Otherwise, had fun with campaigns and ofc we have to deal with some simplicity in AoE2, but still, those things could be ironed out. As for campaigns goes I think all of them are solid A tier.
