Whenever people ask me for #traveltips in Europe and beyond, the #1 thing they want to know is how to travel off the beaten path. 👣
So, here are my top tips for finding those ever illustrious "hidden gems." 🌍
(Hint: The last one is without a doubt my favorite!)
1️⃣ Use Reddit
Reddit is a goldmine for travel advice. Almost every country has its own subreddit, and you can find specific travel threads.
2️⃣ Google Reliable Locals
People forget that blogs still exist! Trust local creators who live in the destination, like @lindseytramuta in Paris. Her insider tips (aka, buying The New Paris) led me to some incredible local spots on my first trip to Paris.
3️⃣ Embrace Slow Travel
If you can, spend more time in one place. My wife and I stayed in a small beach town near Barcelona for a month, allowing us to explore nearby villages and local spots tourists often miss.Slow travel lets you dig just a little deeper. 🏞️
4️⃣ Try Coliving
Living and working in a coliving space, like we did in Caldes d'Estrac, not only lets you explore a lesser-known area, but also gives you a chance to connect with travelers from around the world for local tips.
5️⃣ Know Your Transit Options
Google Maps doesn’t always have the full picture. Use @rome2rio_official to find those tricky routes and download local transit apps. They can often help you reach more remote areas where tourists rarely venture.
