Installation: Just put the extracted files onto a fat32 formatted USB and insert that into the machine [Select - HyloX Stick] :)

To root the cabinet put HyloX Stick's update.img then HyloX Update's update.img on a fat32 formatted usb stick and both times go to Settings - Update. You can also read the included readme's. The internal hack is optional but must be installed before even the "HyloX Stick"

The only files related to the MVSX are "MVSX_internal_hack" (must be installed before everything else [it allows you to play many games without a usb - highly recommend]). "HyloStick_X_Beta" which corresponds to HyloX Stick. "HyloStick_X_Pack2_CPS" which corresponds the HyloX update for CPS games. Also the pack 3 corresponds to extra games, usagi which corresponds to yet more games, and Kriss_pack3 which i think is also different games, Omega_Z corresponds to neogeo games with savestates working, and finally some MVSX_ labeled packages for retroarch. My mod includes all the games from the first 3 packages (plus pretty much all the others as the last 6 options) as the first 4 playlists plus 1,200 more games as the bottom 6 playlists. The CAPCOM SYSTEM bootup option will no longer work as I merged that into the MVSXh folder as one of the playlists.

Thank you, I havn't even tested the new upgraded emulator yet, i'm pretty excited. by holding the player 1 start button for 5 seconds a new menu will pop up with options to change the arcade dip switches like difficulty and whaat not :)!
Some games like sunset riders still need to be played via retroarch but very few.

oms\megadriv\ the MVSXh one are for most roms but if you know its a megadriv rom you can put it there but then remove a rom that is already there and replace it with the rom you are adding and rename it to the rold you are replaceing it with and then launch it through that old game icon. If it is a retroarch rom you are adding you dont need to replace a file and rename the new file to the replaced name but you need to then open it manually in retroarch.
If that doesn't make sense I answered this question twice before in the comments if it still doesn't make sense let me know and I'll re explain. Cheers
I wanted to add a brief update as I've been testing this build for a few weeks now.
Firstly, I uninstalled the hylox mod and returned my cabinet to factory defaults and tested again by simply installing the update.img found in the folder titled "Update 1 (Install first)" I did not use the second update.img (the one that adds the capcom entry into the boot list) and everything works fine. All Capcom games work as expected. I'm fairly sure that the second update.img file only adds an additional entry into the boot loader that directs that entry to boot into the CPSXh directory but since files in that directory have been merged in the MVSXh directory, the Capcom boot loader entry is non-functional and totally unnecessary, so, its best to simply not install the second update.img
Secondly, drives above 40GB seem to fail to boot even when directly connected to the motherboard inside the cab. A work around for this if you have a drive that's above 40GB is to use a partitioning software like Minitool to create a 40GB partition on your larger drive. I've tested this method on several drives and can confirm this works although I have not tested partitions above 40GB (e.g. 50-64GB).
Thirdly, the latest FBA build listed in the comments of this video claiming to fix TMNT and Sunset Riders' lack of coin button support, do not actually do that. To my testing, these games still do not have coin button support and are therefore unplayable. I also wasn't able to get dipswitch menu to work at all in any game that I tested. If I've done something wrong I don't know but, I've tried all methods I've found when researching and none worked.
Fourthly, there is no point in including ps1 games in this build as performance is horrible and controls seem to not work at all. They just take up needless space.
I'm planning on making a build of my own based upon this one (giving credit to everyone of course) and also hope to do some test builds of FBA to see if I can make some headway on the lack of coin and controller support on some games. That will take a bit longer though since I'll have to find documentation on how to edit the source that I've found on Github.
I'll add more notes as I continue testing but so far this is a great and as of now the best build to use on an MVSX. It just needs a bit of editing and lots more testing.
Hope these notes help anyone who stumbled on this video after getting an MVSX as I did a few weeks ago.

Also if you didn't read about MvsxRepacker (on github) its a really good program i used to help me uderstand the expected layout of roms and whatnot. Also some good programs (I forget the name) to sort arcade games into genres
@@leathan7 no problem! Over the last few days I've actually been messing around with an incredibly nice version of retroarch for the mvsx/asp called Sauron Key by a dev named acmeplus. In this version all systems up to and including ps1 run nearly flawlessly. Ps1 games run very well from my testing with the more complicated ones like Tekken 3, Bloody Roar 2, Dead or Alive, etc. running in a playable fashion with stuttering audio. All 2d ps1 games I've tested worked smoothly and anything below ps1 is basically perfect.
I tried incorporating this new release of retroarch into your build but the boot commands are different and it seems like the Sauron key version of RA stays resident in system memory until a hard shut down of the mvsx, meaning the "quit" option doesn't (in fact it just boots itself back into RA). I'm tweaking an image with this RA version at the moment and plan on releasing it via a video on my channel once I've tested that everything is working as it should (proper rom sets, proper bios, two player controls, Playlists, etc)
The front-end isn't as nice as hylox/Usagi3 et al. but having games up to ps1 work nearly flawlessly, state saves/ loads working, as well as having sunset riders, TMNT 1,2 and as other roms working with coin input, is well worth dealing the rather sparce RA gui IMHO.
Acmeplus is also working on a release of Simplemenu for both the mvsx and asp that will function as a nice alternative front-end with similar features to emulation station.
I'll post all this info in a video soon.

Download a 3rd party program to format the USB, the native tools wont let you format a large drive fat32.
search "freeware format fat32" there is one called "FAT32 Format for Windows" that I recommend.

not currently but i think there is an update to the emulator coming. sometimes u can keep trying and it will work other times u can find it in retroarch

With the original HyloX hack, I had noticed the scanlines filter is OFF in all vertical games.
Is it now possible with this update ?
Also, games like Sunset Riders and Kaneko's Great 1000 Miles Rally were nor playable because the Credit button was not recognized... Is it now possible to play theses games ?

I got sunset riders running perfect in retreoarch with mame2003 or mame200 core. It's the game I play the most even retrarch will let you change dip switches so you can set it on harder modes. It otherwise doesnt run on any version. if you have the "Upgrade" then holding player 1 start during game opens up a options menu. Not sure if that will help with what you want but it might.

As I mentioned earlier, I love to play the vertical shmups on my MVSX like DoDonpachi and Guwange, but a problem with the original HyloX hack is the Scanlines image filter does not work in vertical games, it works with horizontal games only. I hope this will be fixed in future updates !

Any recommendation for USB drive? I am using a usb 3.0 one which is supposed to run at 150mb/s but it is very slow for the 35Gb file
I dont think the machine goes faster than usb2.0 but mine stick is a 64gb usb 3.0 and its working fine.
For some reason some USB's did not work well for me but really any fat32 formatted usb 2.0 should do.

Hello, thank you for your work. I messaged you on reddit. Is this soley for the Mini or does it work with the ASP too?
This is solely for the MVXS. It is a small but full arcade cabinet.
You could probably port this over to the ASP. Maybe even the Mini but I do not know what "Mini" is. They do have hacks for the ASP on the telegram but it is not my modified package with all the games combined and new coverarts and whatnot.
In the telegram the packages that have "MVSX" are for the cabinet and "ASP" for the mobile arcade stick thingy. And not sure if they got "Mini".

I just saw that you have an internal hack to put before Hylox, what is the overall interest? Should I install it? is there a risk of bricking? if ever it is possible to always uninstall it via factory reset? thank you.
It will install games to the machines internal storage. It is not much space but it is a decent amount of games. It lets you play the games without even a USB.
It is the first thing that has to be installed if you already installed the hylox update.img's you need to do it again after the internal hack is installed.
I think it is possible to remove it via reset as it needs to be first but I am not sure.
@@leathan7 Ok thanks, I installed the 2 updates, but I can only start on retroarche plus all the games run at 4fps-10fps (even Capcom games like darkstalkers, street fighter...) ninja princess has freezes, only nes/mega drive games run correctly, but mame games run badly or did I do something wrong?

If it is an old arcade game it may work. If you know it is an FinalBurn Alpha (FBA) compatible rom it should work.
You can add most any FBA rom altho I included most. Just download the rom you want then inside the package there is a roms folder full or roms in zip format you can just replace one of the existing roms and copy its name to the new rom file you want that is missing and then you can launch that game using that old roms name in the machine. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.
What is the name of the rom zip file you are wanting? I added most all games that will work already but maybe I did miss some, it might be in the retorach build though, yes i just found the game gear version and it should work. I am not sure what the arcade rom name is so i cant really search for it in the file explorer, let me know what it is.

Hey thanks for the updates! I am having issues with installing the update I believe. Am I opening up that .zip file and replacing the MVSXh folder with my USB's MVSXh folder?
If so, I did this. I am still having issues with both TMNT titles. I can't insert coins like I would with any other game. Everything else is working fine.
I think you did everything right and its a problem with the game, otherwise try with the omega package might have it working

@@leathan7 it was the update.img file given in a few of the earlier parts of the install process. It's not a needed thing or anything. Just curious! So far everything works well and the TMNT games all work from what I've tested.
I am having an issue with the gba emulator for games like the Legend of Zelda Minish Cap and Super Metroid. I cannot open the menu needed to access or modify items.
@@korrupt4u368 I think the hot key to open the retroarch menu during gameplay is holding the left most button, or holding the left most button and then pressing another botton. It can be changed in the retroarch settings.
Retroarch settings can be kind of confusing but i think that is a good start, sounds like u might need to create a new bind for that but im not sure.

I'm attempting to update HyloX, on my MVSX, using the notes and files shared with this video, and I have some questions about the process. I had HyloX installed prior to finding this video, and I believe the version of HyloX I currently have installed is old. I've downloaded the HyloX Update file using your links, and I've also downloaded the file linked under the header, "Internal Hack (Part 1 - 3)" What kind of file is the Internal Hack? The file extension ends with .zip.001 I tried changing the file extension to be just, .zip, i.e. I removed the .001 that came with the download, but 7zip and Winzip do not recognize the file as a zip file. What will the internal hack do once I'm able to utilize it? Is there another video that could walk me through the full installation process, including the correct order for installing each of the updates, or is there a set of typed-up instructions that walks through the order of installation if using all of the files linked below the header, "FOR MY MOD TO WORK YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY ROOTED THE CABINET"? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with my questions!
Link was outdated, I fixed it.
Internal hack lets you play a bunch of games without needing a USB. If you install it, it will delete all your other set ups boot option and you will have to do it again. Which is why I say to just install it first after rooting.
If I forgot something ask again.
Some questions:
1) Is the internal hack reversible by doing a factory reset? As I don't want to permanently mod the system, and of course Hylo X is reversible by doing a factory reset. So I'm hoping the same is true for the internal hack.
2) Is there a video available showing the internal hack so I know what to expect?
3) With Hylo Team shut down, can you upload the original Hylo X archives (the initial 2 packs, as I'm after the original files).
4) Do you happen to know the password of update.img? Would be useful to tweak the internal hack to my liking.
I think so. I am fairly certain of it but not 100%.

The internal hack just adds some games into your machines internal storage. That way you can play some games even without a USB. It's not that many games as there is not much internal storage but it looks the same. (It adds another option to the boot menu.)
It needs to be installed first because the hylox hack requires factory reseting the machine so I think that would imply it can be removed via a reset afterwards too.
does this update make save states work? and can i update without changhing my mvsxh folder to keep everything the same but get updated features? i dont want to change the look or add new games. also does this fix tmnt not adding coins? thanks
You just drag the update MVSXh folder on top of the old folder and it will replace the emulator binary. This will not add save states. Only one build which has only neo geo games works with save states as far as I know.
This update allows for changing game settings like difficulty via a dip switch. Not sure how it affected tmnt.

Yes you can. Each package/link has a readme included for further directions but its generally as easy as moving the files onto a fat32 formatted stick and going to settings -> update then removing the update.img from the usb/ replacing it with the next one to isntall.
The Omega package is all the neo geo games (around 350 i think) with save states working.
First I recommend the internal hack. Then I recommend the HyloXStick, then HyloX Update, then HyloX Upgrade. Then after that install my package on a usb and use it. If you also want Omega install Omega on another USB and use it. if you want another package install it on yet another USB stick and use it. But my package really replaces them all, except maybe the omega.
Recently (the 24th of april / the HyloX Upgrade listed above) a new FBA engine was made which hints at maybe someday us having save states and dipswitches (games settings) for all games. For now I use retroarch for that or for some rare games that dont work with the FBA engine.
Let me know how it goes or if you need help. it's pretty easy to be honest. You might need a 64gb usb for my big package with all the games tho.
Last note: To bring up the menu/settings (if you chose to install the HyloX Upgrade) you need to press and hold the player 1 start button for 4-5 seconds.
This replaces the default menu which is usually brought up with the back/menu button.

@@Burai71 You can add games by replacing an existing rom file with your games rom and renaming your rom to the old romfile name and then loading that old game, it will actually load the game you added if you do that.

Is there a drive size limit? I've used various drives both thumb drives and hard drives above 32 GBs and none boot. The only drive I've gotten to work is an old 40GB hard drive. 128, 250GB drives don't boot. Also, do I need to have the Capcom Play system entry in the boot menu? It's unusable so it would be nice to just remove it since all CPS games are available in the Hylox menu anyway.
You need to just leave the unused boot entry for now and I am not sure about the USB I had one not work wasnt sure why.

@@westofthemoon Yes they should work but the machine has a processor that is like 24megahertz or something extremely slow so i wouldnt expect many playstation games to work but some do work. Also the USB should be at least 34gb as the filesize is about that. I also has some not work on me though.
@@leathan7 Hi again. I mean to say that the controls don't work at all in-game. They work just fine in the retroarch menu but once I launch a game in either of the ps1 emulators cores that I've tried, none of the buttons or sticks responded. And with regard to the size of the archive you provide, I simply deleted most of the roms and isos you included to make room on my 40GB hdd (32-ish GB after formatting to fat32). Still can't figure out why drives above 32-40GB don't work though. I've used the same cluster size on all drives that I've formatted but like I said, only my ancient 40GB hdd works with the mvsx.
Could you point me to any documentation on the retroarch build for the mvsx that you used? I noticed there's a controller profile included in your archive (shanwa joystick or something along those lines). I wonder if editing that text file would help. I also have to mention that after trying the version of retroarch in your archive and finding that the controller didn't work on ps1 emulators I tried the version available on the libretro website but found that the controller didn't work in any emulator with that version, not just ps1. I'm not sure what could be going on.

You can set it (and other hotkeys like the volume hotkey which I think is Left player start plus joystick) to anything you like once in the settings.

There is only I.7z.001 and I.7z.002, they should be 18.8 and 17.5 gb and you should be able to click on part one and extract it which should extract both files.
Make sure you are using 7zip and not winzip. I don't think winzip will work with 7z compression but 7zip should. That may be your problem.

First get a USB stick and format it to fat32
I used ridgecrop.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

The above is a single file split into 3 sections. You need a program like 7zip (www.7-zip.org/download.html) to uncompress the file. Uncompress the part1 file and it will uncompressed all 3 files into 1 folder.
Then put everything inside that folder on your USB drive and report back (REPORT BACK BUT THE the next steps are to insert the USB into the machine and go to system update)

I just wrote this out real quick so i'm scared it might be a bit off but the jist is to move the files onto a fat32 formatted usb stick put that in the arcade machine and then do a system update which will read the the "update.img" and install it on the arcade locally.
So if the link contains a file with update.img u need to do the above system update from the arcade and then go back and delete that off the USB and install the next update.img.
you should only need to do that I think twice. as my pack does not have a update.img not does my update. but the hack, the update to the hack, and the internal hack all have update.img.
Try to read through that slowly.

There is, I made a hot key for it because the regular volume dial does not work in retroarch.
It's been a while since I've used it and I forgot the hotkey lol. Some button and then moving the joystick up and down or left and right.
That said it might be easier to go into the settings and verify this and set it up yourself. Should be under
Settings -> Audio

I just checked the hot key is not set. It can be set within the Settings -> Input -> Hotkeys though.
Also the volume is set to 0 I don't know why I did that but you can fix it via the retroarch settings -> volume.
Also you can just manually edit the retroarch.cfg file on the :sdcard/ and edit one of these.

Worth mentioning you can update the emulator file that starts with the name FBA. It's in one of the folders and you can just slide in the newest one. I did not do it yet as every game I like works fine as is (one of the updates lets u overclock [12mhz to 24mhz lol] for all the neo geo games).

How do you get back into Retroarch?
Every time on boot it should boot into retroarch if you have the file called "boot-usb.sh" in your usb drive and make sure inside you can see the words retroarch_launch somewhere otherwise you are using the wrong boot-usb.sh file.
Iet me know if this makes sense and works. It should.
The boot-usb.sh file with the single line "cp /mnt/hdisk/fba029743 /mnt/data/hack/res/bin/fba029743"
will not boot into retroarch ever.

Most games work but yeah not all :(
The "HyloX Upgrade" is suppose to help but if you still find a game that does not work I recommend you try to run it with Retroarch.
For example there is no package that has sunset riders working however if you load it in retroarch with core Mame2000 or mame2003 it works flawlessly. Its a bit of a pain to do this but at least we can use dipswitches and change everything in retroarch.
Try seeing if that game with run in retroarch with those cores. Or you can try seeing if they will run after installing the HyloX Upgrade. It is suppose to be a bit better.
About your question I am not sure I understand it. I don't really know what a CDs add-on packs mean.
The readme files are not written by me but rather the HyloX team. Try to rephrase the question for me I probably do know the answer.
I only found 3 games I think that flat up do not work so far (I dont play a lot) but I remember spending lots of time trying to get sunset riders to work and it did not work on any package. What I mean by this is if it does not work even on the HyloX Upgrade (which updates the emultaor) then it probably wont work yet on any package.
That said Retroarch it will probably work but again its a pain to find the right core. I'd try mame2000 and mame2003 first then try all the mame/fba cores lol.
I'll try to see if I can get that game running for you. So far I am failing. Going to try with alternative roms of the same game as well in a sec.
@@panama6716 Oh yes I deleted those as the performance is pretty bad. There may be some PS1 games that are worth it. In the telegram channel that I link you can find the MVSX PS1 package and readd them.
Also I spent an hour or so trying to get the game you said to run and I could not even trying the various versions like JAPAN.
I did get it running under FBAlpha_2014 core in retroarch but the fps is ~45. It is playable at least :/
@@panama6716 I will remember to try to see if this game works in future releases of the FBA emulator for our MVSXh. For now I think we need to pass that one up or play with 45 fps.
I tried reverting back to the old FBA emulator and the game has never worked on the MVSXh I guess (aside from retroarch).

The HyloX stick and internal hack (optional) are both there and working for me are those the original file you mean? That is what I'm assuming are those not working for you? You can install the hylo stickx one first but i recommend the internal hack first. then the hylo stickx update which i didnt even check tbh

@@leathan7 I'm lost again. Internal hack works great. Did that first, then moved on to Hylox stick update 1. Installed it, rebooted and had Hylox X on the menu. Select it, and it goes blank screen then back to the same menu. Figured it needed the 2nd update, installed that and now have Capcom on the menu and those work, but HYlo X still does the same thing. Before I go any further, do I now download the larger 35gb files for hylo to work? Sorry for being a pain. When I download the hylo update, the readme says I'm supposed to have a MVSXh folder, I'm not seeing that. The file is only 24mb. All I'm seeing is the readme, update.img and uninstaller file.

Order should be first install Hylo X (that should create the hylox option to appear) then install the update. Then install my mod package for the games. (internal hack added some that work without usb btw)
Then you should be able to to run the hylox option it should load up into reotrorach where u can click exist and load into the regular enviroment.
Lastly you can also use the
DRAG_OVER_INSTALL_AND_REPLACE_TO_UPDATE.zip to update the FBA emulator a bit more.

Have you downloaded all 3 files (its split into 3 parts)?
After downloading the 3 sections, right click on the first of the 3 sections (preferably using 7zip) and unarchive the file.
7zip is an open source freeware and better alternative to WinRar. It should work fine let me know please if this helps.

It is only 1 file that you are downloading split into 3 sections to upload it to mega.
You should only need to right click (the first part) -> unzip and it will automatically merge and unzip all 3 files.
There is no password, if you still cant figure it out I will load it as 1 single file and pass you a new link but it should work as is.
I am downloading it again now and will see if downloading and unzipping works for me still.

By the way, my HyloX version is the original Update 1 + the Update 2 to play the Capcom CPS games. Can I directly install your update with these, or do I miss something ? Though I don't remember I had previously installed that "internal hack" you mention.
@@laurent8789 You can install the internal_hack + HyloxX + update and then my mod or you can install the internal_hack + hyloX + update + upgrade then my mod. The final upgrade is just an improvement I guess and I dont notice any actual change but in the notes the person mentions that in the future they intend to add more features. As fair as I know it is the update 2 (the upgrade) that adds compatibility for Capcom CPS games. So it is needed for my mod to work yes or yes. Hope this clarified things, if not or if you have another question just ask.

@@laurent8789 Yes you can uninstall it. Every archive should have a readme and an uninstaller_update in it. Otherwise you can just factory reset from the options menu and it should remove it also. (factory reset will remove every update you applied the uninstaller_update will just remove the respective update.)
The internal hack makes a copy of the games and emulator directly on the internal storage and can be played without a USB. Altho the space is limited so for more games we need a USB.

Drag the MVSXh folder from the update . zip file to your USB and replace the files in MVSXh folder on your USB with the one from the Update . zip file

@@leathan7 hey there, I've got a system with hylox already on it. I bought it modded. What do I need to do differently to add games or update?
This repo is great *but* even after the updates I am still getting crashes from time to time when loading certain games. I also have the internal hack installed. Only way it "resets" is if I unplug and re-insert the USB stick. Any ideas? I am using a 64GB drive if that helps; I've heard HyloX only plays truly nice with 32GB and under (although your image is 35).
That happens on all the builds by the way but it happens on mine more often :( I think it is because of large amount of games. I am keeping a list of games that dont work, are rly unfun, work badly, are duplicated, and so on to make a second version of my build with a smaller list size. For now I just keep resetting it (clicking the button is enough no need to unplug)@@Shizzmoney74

new emulator binary is out i think maybe multiple actually. if you cant find them easily in the telegram let me know its essentially 1 binary file to swap one newest one seems to add overclocking for all neogeo games which fixes lots of slow downs and some that fix scan lines. any file in their telegram that mentions FBA i'd imagine i see 3 new ones worth trying i hope the newest one replaces them all not sure though. Just letting yall know.
