I know a lot people are whining a lot about this event due to the pegboard. The games has transitioned to more of a strongman event over the years so I felt it was refreshing to see something that a true all-around fit person should be able to do. These things used to be in every high school gym in the country.
Ben Smith came into Midline Madness with a four-point lead and finished way behind Mat Fraser. Then he went into these events with an eight-point lead... can someone tell me what happened???
TheOneAndOnlyHydro I was wondering the same thing. Mat was 4 points behind Ben before MM and gained 24 points on Ben, thus putting him 20 points ahead of Ben. When event 12 started, Ben was ahead by 8. CF Admin mistake from earlier in the competition maybe being corrected.
I Can Adventures Sprint course points were revaluated, which means the leaderboards shown on saturday evening and before Midline Madness were incorrect.
I wondered too. Was kind of pissed actually because the commentators seemed to babble about the most unimportant stuff you can imagine and when it comes to this they don't mention it.
At the end of event 11, it is assumed that fraser should appear first, because he was only 4 points behind ben smith, and fraser won him in event 11 for several places. So why ben smith appears first in leaderboard after 11 events? Could someone please explain to me? I know that this is the video of events 12 and 13 but here appears the leaderboard after event 119:54
NOT COOL! Fraser deserved this! Just seeing him almost catching B-Smith after his unfortunately failure at the handstands... LIKE A FUCKING BOSS! He deserved this!! But rules are rules... So congratz B-Smith
I refer to the video with the podium of the competition (2015 CrossFit Games) of the video above! The link you posted is of the podium of the 2016 CrossFit Games!

Looks like Crossfit's focus is more and more on extremely heavy weights, rather than a multi-dimensional fitness world with different disciplines combined together. Aka, you can be the fastest, most dynamic, most resistant all-round athlete in the world, but if you can't carry a 3000lbs phone booth up a 500ft staircase you cannot win the crossfit games. I think they should re-think a little the structure of the games. They were awesome, but they could do more to make it a fair test of overall all-round fitness.
ProjectFibonacci It has been like this since the beginning. This is how khalipa won his very first games. This is why spealer never won a game. There is no true balance. If you make and emphasis on various aerobic movements, the strong guys will be at a disadvantage
ProjectFibonacci Crossfit is about "functional" fitness. Best described as being able to move any object using your body from point A to point B, if that object happens to be a 3000lbs phone booth and point B happens to be 500ft away; then, should you be incapable of doing that can you really call yourself "fit"? Also, look at all the events over the weekend, they tested functional activities (pig flip, sandbag, pier paddle), they tested gymnastics movements, they tested aerobic and anaerobic capacity. Just because a person fails dismally on the final event does not mean the games only tested 1 aspect of fitness. Judge the games as a whole and not on the basis of 1 event your favourite athlete sucked at.
I'm new to watching these; but, the decision to make the last event/s something that no one can finish was kind of cruel. That's a rough end to a great larger competition. I get the idea to push the field forward into new skills, but maybe just don't make this the LAST event - it's a tough note to end on for the fans and the athletes.
With this set-up allowing you to use your feet, if you have some basic body awareness from climbing, you can climb this pegboard with straight arms without using much effort at all.
I usually watch the Games all weekend but I didn't this year, but just watching the female athletes struggle on the peg board didn't do much for me as a viewer. Of course, CF always discovers holes in many of the athlete's games, but it seems finding a balance between searching for the best and entertaining people is still a struggle. I liked the final events from 2013 and 2014 as far as watching went, very entertaining.
Look at all the people that watch this shit! I really didn't know cross fit was so big, I thought it was like Ty Bow or Zumba or whatever fad has been big at other times
Geez, Castro was rather aggressive when he announced Ben as the champ. Almost like he wanted to stick it to the Fraser fans/ Matt Fraser himself?! Weird man.
Idiotic peg board. Including shit in the World Championship final that these athletes never tried, making them look hopeless. I hope we will never see such nonsense ever again.
the handstand was pretty dumb. athletes pretty much had to make sure their head touched the floor. and when u r tired, u pretty much whack ur head into the ground. cant wait till someone gets concuss from this (Y)
Probably the best final event of any crossfit games.
Final heat men at 2:34:10 and second round at 2:42:10
Final heat women at 3:14:10 and second round at 3:22:10
Thanks!
+Guillermo Alessandri Thank you!
Guillermo Alessandri I
people should respect the hard work organisers and the contestant are putting into this thing ☺ crossfit is really awesome

Me watching this as I eat a whole sleeve of oreos 😂😂😂
I know it's been a long time since this happened but I still feel so bad for Sara... she HAD everything to win!! but I love Katrin so it's okay
Yeah. If ever she had the chance it was then; I feel like the programming messed her up big time.
Ben Smith created a monster
All the other athletes should be cursing his name
Why they didn't call it "Pedal to the Medal" I'll never understand.
After 7x competing well deserved 👍🏻
very nice, I like this sport
Congrats to Alex parker!! Em and I are so happy for you!!
Cammile is second to none at hand-stand push ups!! :)
Christina Lazareva žzŽ

Beautiful
That was hype
Wow I feel bad for Sara..
Let Smith and Fraser fight side by side at the Invitational!

Ben Smith last snatch of event 1, is a no rep.
He used his thigh for impulse, and a no rep would had placed him in 5th place.

ProjectFibonacci Yea but Ben Smith was best all around athlete. Only 1 finish outside of top 11
ProjectFibonacci You had Murph and the Yoke Biathlon. Smith, Fraser and Gudmundsson did very well on those. What else do you need?
mogadsh don't forget the pier paddle - no heavy weights and very endurance focused

Anyone else wondering what is Ben Smith doing in 2024?
36:47 - 37:58; 39:19
1:03:18
2:42:28; 2:43:17 - 2:44:09

Why Rich didn't participate on the individuals this year?!
+robespierre31 He decided to transition from individual to team crossfit, and you can only do one.
oooh I see... thanks for the info! =) I would love to see him back this year on the individuals tho
He was afraid to lose wit all the crowd that is present every year to watch the games.. so he went in teams
2:39:00 get your abacuses and calculators guys xD
I really enjoy watching the Crossfit Games - but that peg board was simply stupid.

Really crossfit production crew.....@3:14.04
Geez, Castro was rather aggressive when he announced Ben as the champ. Almost like he wanted to stick it to the Fraser fans/ Matt Fraser himself?! Weird man.
I think he doesn't like Ben smith
#theburqareturns THE GENERAL STRIKE CONTINUES
#armsshipmentforrevolution BECOME A VOLUNTEER
crossfit games "Ecuador"
Rich would have beaten them all easy if he competed in individuals.
But he didn't
Big lose created Big Beast Mat Fraser
Feel sad for Sarah
The commentators are so Mat Fraser biased
Surprisingly Ben Smith wins it, he got lucky Matthew was a far superior human being, who deserves it, but Ben is cool too.
#FuckReebok
Who wants to see a person working on a rowing machine or stationary bike? This is bullshit.
Why on Earth didn't they just do one peg board ascent especially for the women? Yeah great throw in a new element but this was awful to watch.
Idiotic peg board. Including shit in the World Championship final that these athletes never tried, making them look hopeless. I hope we will never see such nonsense ever again.
The fact that they haven't seen it is the whole point?
+roy andersen Be ready for anything, that's crossfit.
fraser is better than smith!
This was the most boring final how could you not have a barbell in the last two events.
the handstand was pretty dumb. athletes pretty much had to make sure their head touched the floor. and when u r tired, u pretty much whack ur head into the ground. cant wait till someone gets concuss from this (Y)
stop saying fittest man on earth. he isn't. I love crossfit but that always irritates me when they say that
So who is then?
v stupid last event. especially the part with deadlifting..
