I was only 15 when the Ninja Warriors came out from Taito Corp. Couldn't beat it without a tutorial vid. The Tsugaru Shamisen (Japanese traditional strings) is classic; I wish the Yoshida Brothers remake this tune. BTW, the original BGM in the game has Shamisen solo with half a tone lower in two phrases (including the entry part), which makes the solo a lot more colorful.
That solo at 3:05 though... This is glorious. I really need to go to some kind of live retro arcade/console concert some day. One with all the in-house bands there.
WOW, this song was always my favorite game music theme and to see it performed live, I can't stop smiling! I remember playing alot the game in a local game club on a huge extra wide screen and sometimes just to listen to the music! :D Great stuff!
Ive been listening to this video as much as I can. I don't own an iPod nor do I have plans to get one but I just might just to hear this song all the time cua this song is too awesome.
I first heard this song in an airport arcade back in 1988. I was blown away by the song. At the time, video games just didn't have full-length anthems like this for their background music. But sure enough, there's a full chorus-verse-chorus-bridge structure (with shamisen solo!) and it sounded great even in MIDI. To hear this live version again today (I've listened to it dozens of times over the years) after having picked up a bass, and hearing how prominent the bass groove is and how it drives the melody, I've resolved to transcribe the bass line and learn to play it from memory. I realize that few people would want to hear a bass cover of a song they've probably never heard before. But this song takes me back to my childhood, and always fills me with wonder when I listen to it. I am looking forward to getting it under my fingers and jamming it late into the night.
I first heard this back in 1988 on the C64 version The Ninja Warriors. One of the best computer game themes still to this day. Also, I wonder if Zuntata was inspired by Yellow Magic Orchestra. Pretty much the same live setup.
Best video game song ever to feature a shamisen solo. (also, props to the 1990 live version actually having a dude play the shamisen, this part was done on keyboard for Zuntata Live 1998. Actually, KEYTAR, which actually gains it some points, but I digress)
This sounds a lot like the Mega CD version, i still have my old Tectoy MD+MCD and a copy of this game, i believe it was released only in Japan and Brasil.
the band makes it so fun i love the game and play it with my brother but the way the band gets everyone riled up, i don't know how you can say that any way id do any ting to go to one of these
There's a reason songs like these are in VIDEO GAMES and not on the radio. Nostalgia is cool, but there's no way ure gunna rock this @ a party or in ure car with frnds arnd. lol. still cool though.
outrunsega bacon
Just fabulous music...... God time is passing so fast, Ogura is now 60+ :'(

Yep, throw in Konami Kuikeha club and Konami Perfect Selection in there.
Ben Daglish from the C64 era used to perform at many reunion events until he recently passed away :-(
OMFG, this video deserve 1,000,000 of views at least.

Wow...i was 7 yrs old when i finished it for the first time with my "amiga 2000"
Dat Japanjo (Japanese Banjo) (Shamisen) set my heart ablaze.

Thanks, Danny Sexbang! This song ROCKS!!
2:46 You can hear the crowd cheer in anticipation as the shamisen guy gets into position!
So fucking cool man!
An absolute classic, got fond memories of having this on cassette listening to it on my then awesome walkman all those years ago.
Wish I had had your music sources back then. o.o
Just remember this: "The Ninja Warriors are the immortal murder-machines!"
This is EPIC!

Xavier H. Grump bump
The solo at 3:20 is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen/heard.
This is my favorite song from a video game. This was one of my favorite games growing up. Good memories =)
Totally dig this jam, the game soundtrack was WAY ahead of its time.
Awesome music...!
Ogura is the Man...!
Even 1988. So 80's.

Thanks Dan!
Hope this shows up in Ninja Warriors Once Again somewhere
this band is frigin awesome!
That shamisen solo melts my face off every time
"What kind of music are you into?"
"Video games."
"That's not a genre."
"Let me just load up this video really quick"
I first heard this back in 1988 on the C64 version The Ninja Warriors. One of the best computer game themes still to this day.
Also, I wonder if Zuntata was inspired by Yellow Magic Orchestra. Pretty much the same live setup.
Cool! I didn't know there was a live band of this "the ninja warriors" theme. Awesome.
I don't think you'll care about it 11 years later, but Zuntata was (is? I am not sure) a band formed to make music for Taito games.
wow, 1990... that must be a rarity, thank you for this video
I was extremly young when this game came out so I never played it as a kid but this song is pretty kick ass.
I think this and the opening song from Darius 1 are some of their most memorable songs. . .
Japan always had and will have the best stuff.
My favorite! :)
#Zuntata4Life
Best video game song ever to feature a shamisen solo.
(also, props to the 1990 live version actually having a dude play the shamisen, this part was done on keyboard for Zuntata Live 1998. Actually, KEYTAR, which actually gains it some points, but I digress)
Daddy Mulk
This music is too awesome to be in a video game.
I couldn't help but search Zuntata after Lewis brought it up xD
And now I'm dancing like him
19 years ago wow...

Video game music? Silver clothes? Japan? Shamisen solo? This video is made of pure WIN!
Yeeeeeeeees!
MrThunderwing should they have something like this in Daytona, similar to the solo.
Wow Danny, sounds like a Ninja Sex Party influence for sure!
This sounds a lot like the Mega CD version, i still have my old Tectoy MD+MCD and a copy of this game, i believe it was released only in Japan and Brasil.
Holy cow! It's freakin' Mega Man X in 1990!
Woah look! Space potatoes!

Soooooo who made it to this video because of the Game Grumps bump?
Emil Caillaux ....me
Apparantly Dan made a reference about Daddy Mulk 3 years ago, check these comments: ruclips.net/video/DFmf17aQbMI/видео.html
They're shit and so are their fans
When game grumps recommended this
This is The Second time Game grumps sent me here
Penetrates my soul.
This sounds so familiar yet I didn't play Ninja Warriors or see any videos or anything with this music in it. That's weird...
Congratulations, you answered a 2 year old question :T
There's a reason songs like these are in VIDEO GAMES and not on the radio. Nostalgia is cool, but there's no way ure gunna rock this @ a party or in ure car with frnds arnd. lol. still cool though.
I don't know why, but i was expecting a wild Kaz Hirai to show up in this video.
And heeeeeeeeeeeeeere come the Grump fans...
1 - You don't know what a party is.
