    About Fibroid Fighters
    As a public welfare organization dedicated to the education and research of uterine fibroids, The Fibroid Fighters Foundation has partnered with political leaders, public figures, activists, and fibroid survivors to spread the word about uterine fibroid disease. We're on a mission to end the silence and stigma that surrounds women's health, specifically the reproductive health issue of fibroids.
    Fibroids impact 1 in 3 women, but despite how common this disease is, often the only treatment offered for symptomatic fibroids is hysterectomy. Whether partial or complete, hysterectomy comes with multiple drawbacks, including but not limited to the loss of fertility.
    A part of the Fibroid Fighters Foundation mission includes bringing awareness to the minimally invasive fibroid treatment option known as Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE). UFE is an FDA-approved treatment for fibroids that involves embolizing the arteries that connect the fibroid tumors to the blood supply.

    I too am a fibroid survivor. I thank God I didn't suffer with the severe bleeding like most women do. How I found out is that my cycle went from 3 days to 7 days and when I would lay on my stomach I would feel like a heart beating in my stomach. I was tired like most and my iron was really low. After getting an vaginal ultrasound it was determined I need to have mine removed asap. In doing so I too had a myomectomy done to have a 6lb fibroid removed. The good news is, it's been over 15yrs and by the grace of God they have not returned.

    I found out that I had Fibroids when I was pregnant and had my daughter at 36 . I had my son at 18 , when I was married to my first husband . Even when I was a young girl , I use to hate having my period . I was a heavy bleeder and my period would stay on for 10 days straight . I was anemic . I wore 105 pounds until I had my son . When I was pregnant with my daughter , that when they told me about the fibroids . I use to by pads by the dozen . After my daughter was born and we moved to Atlanta : I had the surgery on April 9th 2011 and they removed a tumor from my body that weighed 4 pounds 5 Ounces . I had a partial hysterectomy . If I had not had that tumor removed from my body : I wouldn't be here to enjoy my 2 children , my second husband and my grandchildren . I just had a birthday on June 1 2021 . I am 59 years of age . And I thank God and Jesus Christ for blessing me too see another year and another day .Love you and be Blessed and Safe ! Ms . Lin Dallas Ga .

I've had laparoscopic surgery twice for the endo. and am seeing a surgeon soon about my largest fibroid which is about the size of an orange. These conditions are miserable and there is not enough information or treatment options available. I would ask if they removed all of them or just the one giving the most problem. I told my doctor I heard the fibroids come back after a myomectomy so I didn’t want to do that procedure and he said not the ones they removed but the ones they didn’t remove will still be there. He said they don’t tell people they didn’t remove them all. I’m doing the uterine fibroid embolization procedure next month as I have 5-6 fibroids and they have grown sine I learned I had them 3 yrs ago.

It is said that estrogen accumulates in fat and of course fat grows with high sugar intake. As well drinking milk from a cow that is kept on estrogen to keep it pumping milk when it doesn’t even have a baby calf to nurse isn’t healthy is it?

    Watching this currently 4 weeks, 4 days post op from a full abdominal hysterectomy. I’m 36 and was diagnosed with fibroids back in 2022. The fibroids were so large that my uterus was the size of a 38 week pregnant woman. I had only had complications since 2019, but didn’t think anything of it because I’ve always had menstrual cramps. I talked to my GYN and a myomectomy as well as UFE were given as an option but, with the same warnings that they could return or the UFE may not work since the fibroids we so large and there were so many of them! I made the hardest decision of my life by getting a hysterectomy but, I don’t regret it at all! No more painful periods, no more oversized uterus that wouldn’t allow me to lay on my stomach and causing me to have sciatic nerve pain! Explore all of your options and do what’s best for you and your situation! A hysterectomy is not ideal for everyone and every situation. But, I’m definitely glad I did it

    • @InspiredByEbonyLove
      @InspiredByEbonyLove Год назад +1

      I’m so sorry that they took your uterus. They could have done a myomectomy to remove them. Especially if you were at the stage in life where you wanted children. The first offer they made to me was to take my uterus and I was absolutely NOT going to give it to them. I wanted to be a mother. Yes they usually grow back if you don’t make changes . They could t take all of mine out , because I wanted my fertility preserved. But I did get pregnant and give birth to an amazing miracle child. Such a blessing . The doctor removed a small. Fibroid and showed it to me after I gave birth. Since having the larger ones removed , I have not had the problems I had prior to the surgery ( excruciating pain, vlog clots, fatigue, back pain etc) I’m sure I still have some in there but they don’t cause me suffering. They may be preventing pregnancy but I don’t regret keeping my uterus. Hopefully as I get older they should shrink. I’m glad you found relief though. Did the hysterectomy accelerate menopause for you or necessitate you being on hormones?

I did NOT want to be cut open so I started trying to shrink them naturally by changing my entire way of eating and even taking herbal extracts. It seems to be working but the process is just taking a bit way too long, so I will have to look into UFE. One thing about the herbal extracts is that they make your periods even heavier, so of course sometimes I feel like I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place 🙄😒😕 and I don’t have that “support system” that Toya spoke of, EVERYTHING is on ME. Little did I know I had 5 fibroids. I went back to my doctor she finally did an ultrasound and confirmed it. She wanted to do a hysterectomy and I said I’m trying to have a baby. Then I came across another doctor who did the surgery to remove them. I’m still not pregnant and scared to death of them coming back. I suffered for years and no one listened to me.

      Keep going to the doctor to see if there are fibroids preventing pregnancy. Keep trying. If you want a baby try and don’t take it like you have forever . Be diligent because the fibroids do grow and even when removed if you don’t change your diet and stop using things with chemical estrogens and having dairy and 🥩 ( commercial) etc they will grow back.

    Thanks for sharing your story Toya, I had a hysterectomy in 2017 due to multiple fibroids 1 being the size of a lime w/excessive bleeding. I was 45 yrs old, and fibroids are hereditary in my family. I got 2 doctors opinions both advised a hysterectomy because of my age, me not planning to have anymore children. I did my own research after I was diagnosed and found out about Endometrial Oblation(basically burning the fibroids from the endometrial wall). They can grow back, and I didn't want to have that procedure done to have it again 3-5yrs later. I never hear of a myomectomy, it sounds close to an Endometrial Oblation.

I blacked out due to my low anemia and had to get blood transfusions. I also had to wear diapers and take iron pills 3-5 times daily. It all got worst so quick. The crazy thing is a hysterectomy is considered a cosmetic surgery per insurance.

You could be walking around and don't even know you have a fibroid that's how I didn't know that there was anything wrong with me into my doctors help me that I had a fibroid and I was like well I don't have heavy cramping and not and and bleeding because normally those are typical the symptoms of it but I was nervous myself never had surgery but I had to get a partial hysterectomy and that that way there will be no more fat boys anymore they won't come back so I feel fine it took me 4 to 6 weeks to recover too I thought initially that I would feel different from them taking my uterus and my Fallopian tubes but everything still is the same and the best thing about it you don't have no more. So I thank God for pulling me through that surgery and it's a blessing so anybody if you are afraid to have surgery and if you don't want those fibroids to not come back you have to have a history especially if you're done with kids and I already have my kids so I'm glad this happened later on in my life

      See an obgyn! Look for a specialist who does fibroid removal. Look into dietary changes for shrinking fibroids.
