    Fun fact:
Lucy Punch also played the stepsister in 2000's Cinderella, Ella Enchanted, and the Cinderella episode of Fairy Tales.
Even better, it's actually not typecasting. When she was a little girl, when everyone else wanted a princess party, she asked for an ugly stepsister party. This is literally a dream come true for her.

The stage play is so good i loved it, its one of my favourite plays, but in my opinion they did a very good job on the adaptation, i mean you can still see that play style, or theater style, with the lights and sounds, they kept it really clean. they didnt try to make it more ¨Hollywood¨ musical movie adaptation like they did with some other musical movies, they really kept the style and vibe of a real life play, and that is what it makes it so cool, that you feel like you are in the firsts seats of a real play.

This movie was my introduction to this musical, and I've been in love with it ever since. I don't have the same hate for it, probably because I saw it before the stage play. The music is beautifully sung, by an amazing cast. I'm not a huge fan of James Cordon, but this movie was what made me realize he could actually sing.

    Negatives:
They took out the Baker song, Agony reprise (and twist), and the mysterious man. Also, Your Fault was slowed down and made me sad. It’s my favorite song.
    Positives:
The cinematography is amazing, they did a great job with Little Reds reprise there. They vocals were all AMAZING and they didn’t shy away from the Grimm parts of the stories.
Overall, it was a very good movie. It keeps some things hidden so you get the surprises in the show if/when you see it live, which is nice. Saw it in the theaters, and had to keep myself from singing along.

    • @NightRainPanda
      @NightRainPanda Год назад +5

      Negatives:
-They took out no more (is that what you mean by baker song?)
-The took out ever after and act 2 prologue (vital to the story)
-They shoved Children Will Listen to the background even though its the highlight of the finale
-They cast a child as Jack
-They made Jack's mother a bitch
-They lowered the pitch on half the songs and the overall harmonies don't work nearly as well
-They took out the entirety of the comedic elements of the show (Milky White dies, for example, is a comedic scene originally)
-They also took out the darkest parts of the show (Rapunzel dies, for example)
-The color palate is too dreary by far
      Positives:
      - Little Red is by far the best singer in this, at least by the standard of pulling off her songs, she's the best
-Meryl Streep is a good witch, despite some script decisions ruining it a bit, stay with me was well done
      - I liked the witch sinking into the ground in Last Midnight (which makes way less sense without the first to set the tone) (think they should have made her singing louder for that scene though)

@@NightRainPandathe witch went from " I want no more people to die ... Your wife's dead but so is the only family I had left , I feel your greef but we have to give her what she wants or end up dead ourselves " to " I just want to save my own ass ... " , Rapunzel's death is what sets the witch's character arc in motion in the second act cutting her death ( or any character's death for that matter ) messes up the plot and character's motivations .The visuals looked drab af ,the woods from the pro Shot with the Original Broadway cast looked much more vast and mysterious than this dark murky blue filter shit ... The design's were all over the place and head scratching ... I love for example that in the Og Pro Shot all of Cinderella's characters looked like they were from the early 19th century it gave the looks some cohesion,In the film they are a horrible imitation of the 18th century . The second half feels especially rushed because they cutted the Time skip and the pacing in the second half as well as the comedy was off . For me the cannon film adaptation of the show is the 1991 pro shot , whenever I watch it I feel as If I'm watching a movie and it's better in every single regard .The film looks pathetic by comparison

Disney's version is heavily inspired by Perrault's version of Cinderella from 1697, which indeed is lighter in tone than Grimm's version that was written in 1812.
There are earlier oral versions of the story globally, though Perrault's and Grimm's can both be considered as originals in the literature genre.

I love Into The Woods, and I think this movie's worst sin is not killing Rapunzel, because then the journey of the Witch doesn't make sense. Also, I miss "maybe they're really magic" and "no more" because they bring depth to the baker and his wife.
ALSO, just me flexing here, but I always understood that Moments in the Woods is a wordplay with "Woulds". So she had a moment in the "woulds" (the "and", as she says) and is ready to go back to her reality (the "or").

If you're a fan of the stage musical, I'd absolutely recommend the Regent's Park Open Air staging (which, as far as I know, is the only other Into the Woods proshot available). The open air setting adds so many more layers of immersion to it, and all the actors do a fantastic job playing their characters, one of the standout performances being Hannah Waddingham as The Witch, her performance rivalling that of Bernadette and Meryl in my opinion. Additionally, they added an additional framing device by reworking the character of the narrator. I won't spoil what exactly they did with it, but it ties in to many of the shows themes.

When Cinderella gets her 'glow up' she didn't get it from some mad woman in the tree, it's her dead mother's spirit who helped her, like from the original Grimm Tales.....All of these stories are actually based from the Original Grimm Tales, except of course the second part of the movie when female giant comes. Read the Grimm Tales it's supposedly where all original fairytale come from and its way darker than Disney led us to believe.....

Yes, Jack is Gavroche. Ridiculously talented kid. His Giants in the Sky is powerful.
My sister and niece saw this in the theater and HATED it. So I decided to not make the effort. My niece has good judgment of whether a movie is good/bad, funny/bland etc. But we got Disney + and I was going through and watching things I’d not seen: Shang Chi(liked it), WandaVision(liked it), Black Widow(it’s alright), The Eternals(actually liked it🤷🏻‍♀️). And I came upon Into the Woods. I could not help but watch it, I love musicals. I loved it. I thought my sister and niece were insane. My only problem with it is the songs tend to hang around the same notes and it’s repetitive but there are still GOOD songs. And Meryl absolutely crushes it. I spent the entire film cheering every time she came on screen. And I may have cried when Tracey Ullman died, always been a big fan. And Jack lost his mum. It was all a bit sad.

I think this film just lost me when they kept Rapunzel alive and cut No More; it changes too much if the witch /isn't/ proven to be occasionally right. So much of ITW is about the failures that come up in the relationship between parents and their children; I just don't get why they cut so much of that here

The witch went from " I want no more people to die ... For me the cannon film adaptation of the show is the 1991 pro shot , whenever I watch it I feel as If I'm watching a movie and it's better in every single regard .The film looks pathetic by comparison . Would you consider making a reaction video on the pro Shot with the original cast ? It's available on RUclips for free, Your commentary made me laugh so hard 😂😂 Keep up the good work ❤❤

I agree with you. I liked the show a lot but I enjoyed this movie very much. I think it is a great adaptation and I don't get the hate at all. So happy you reacted and enjoyed it too.

Hi! I was wondering if you could film a commentary of The School for Good and Evil? It's a new movie on Netflix and I personally really enjoyed watching it!

Fun fact: the part where the stepsisters cut off their toe and heel to make the slipper fit is how the original story of Cinderella the true grim fairytales are very dark not the bubbly version disney has done. Other fairytales are worse than that.

My life was never the same after learning that Red Riding Hood and the Wolf are a metaphor for being pressured into losing your virginity/purity to someone you don’t necessarily trust or in some versions of the story straight up rape
