I like the idea of this however I do wonder how fast do we really need to get footage to an editor. I think clients need to be slowed down rather than giving them reasons to expect edits even sooner.
Also for a lot of small production companies does it make sense to have an editor sitting around waiting for the rushes to come through when they could be getting on with another edit and just edit what you’re currently shooting the next day?
It could be a valuable add-on for clients who have the need and budget to share the highlights of an event because time is money to them.
I could have used this when I was working for a News station. Perfect for event coverage.
Sports teams are adopting this same workflow and have had a significant increase in social media engagement being able to get highlights out to fans while the game is still live. This is also valuable not only for editors but ANYONE on set. These proxies can be reviewed from anywhere and anyone with a mobile phone can see. This means people who cannot make it to set can almost see live what is going on on the set so if something isn't correct they can adjust without being there. Talent can see themselves on set and review takes, etc. There are tons of use cases beyond turnaround time.
On sets instead of wifi data if one can connect it directly to an ip with Mac id and transfer it directly to a spot editor's setup, It'll be great. No data wasted. Yet the editor can show cuts to the Director without moving much. So one can reshoot without changing the setup too. This will save time and the film edit progresses in real time.
Unfortunately that's not how it works. It round-trips everything through Internet servers, not even directly through Wi-Fi. So if you're in the field away from a good Internet connection... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Currently limited to 1080p RUclips livestreaming resolution correct? I'm currently using the Yolo Pro which is also limited to 1080p but at least has the SIM card option which I definitely use for streaming projects in the field

Yes, you are correct that we are currently outputting 1080p up to 60 frames per second on live streaming platforms, which is the standard resolution at the moment, however, we have submitted your feedback the for Sim card option to our relevant department so they can take your suggestion into consideration!

This seems like an interesting solution. I could see it working great for news teams or any type of event coverage that needs super fast turnarounds. I would be curious to se who’s reliable it is in the field. Thanks for sharing Armando! Hope you are well my bro!
You can use it for remote producer dailies. I just did a job with the Sony Venice 2 and the Teradek 655 using the FrameIO C2C workflow and it worked perfectly in the field as long as you have a decent network connection.
@@maurice_morales What was your (proxy) recorder in that instance? An atomos device? I mean what recieved the Teradek signal.
@@DaCarnivalThe Teradek 655 was connected to the Sony Venice 2 and the Teradek 655 was creating the low bit rate/high quality proxies.

I see you had an upgrade to your FX3 rig. The most interesting change is the V-Mount battery placement. Why did you switch from Titon Base? Doesn’t the current configuration make it difficult to use the LCD?
And can you please name the left and right handles? Which brands?

These are what I would like to see:
1. Comparison with similar products from other brands(e.g. Smallrig half-cage vs Kondor Blue cage) and why you went with a particular brand
2. Alternative ways of mounting the monitor and why your method(magic arm) works better than others
3. How well does the rig work with different configurations(gimbal, shoulder, tripod/dolly, teleprompter etc.) and how easy to modify it

No.
That's all wonderful, but I should also mention what follow-up costs are incurred. Atomos cloud and frame io are very expensive

@@mondobytes The thingy you showed that clips onto the back of the Ninja V and allows real time streaming and upload to Frame IO.
Let’s say you send that footage over and the editor starts editing with the proxies. Is it as simple as locating the raw footage after and re connecting it?
It should be, but Adobe has managed to screw up simple things like this for a long time.
So this only work if you're in Adobe systems...but what if your editor uses Final Cut, or any other editing system, just a thought
I use FCPX but it looks like there is a Frame IO plugin for FCPX and DaVinci. At the end of the day, Adobe wants money,lol. They will allow it to work.
Yes all they want is money and they don’t ever want to fix their broken software that is sluggish and unreliable.
You can use Postlab to integrate FrameIO into FCPX

If your editor uses Final Cut you should get a new one.
Used a beta of this back in January on a shoot, and Frame IO bug renamed all the proxies. Editor had to relink hundreds of clips manually to relink to the Raw. RIP!
We don't see any problems today.
Thanks for the video! This will really help keep people invested in Adobe. I hope they can make it a stable workflow so creators will continue to have different post production options.
Do you have to be recording externally for the signal to submit video to the cloud? Just curious if it has to be recording or just receiving an HDMI signal.
How are the fans on these monitors? I eventually got rid of all of my Atomos products because of the fan noise. That, and the power hungry nature of them.

This sound cool. But when I eventually get the master camera footage (not the Atmos recorded masters) back to the studio, will I be able to relink the Premiere Pro cut (edited with the proxy files from Frame IO) with, say Arri or Red footage with (what I assume will be) different files names but presumably the same timecode?
That part is on Adobe... who (last time I checked) couldn't even properly relink footage on hard drives sitting on your desk. So.... we'll see.
But can it also connect via Wifi to another monitor for low budget Directors monitor viewing? if not then I would rather they just kept making the SDI module. Ultimately I wish they had not discontinued the SDI module.

I would love to know what are some actions that will troubleshoot this cloud base ecosystem. Say if operator somehow deleted some files in camera, swap monitors between different camera and so on. I'd love to know what to be aware of to not mess up the system. THX
The metadata should include not only the file name but also clip length, time code, audio and so on for Premiere to cross reference.

I haven't been able to see a full review of it and the reviews of them say that they don't have the features for the C2C or live streaming yet...

Great overview of this products Armando. For a setup with an FX3 which option would you recommend better for a use case where streaming events would be the main use case. The Shogun Connect or the Ninja V+ with the Connect accessory? Cheers!.
The Shogun is more robust in the sense you have more inputs but also a larger display. Just really depends on your workflow. I like to use the NinjaV+ personally
ninja v+ looks good outside without a hood 🤔, i thought 1000 nits wasn't gonna be enough and had to get the showgun connect for the 2000 nits
Shogun is better anyway. Why bother with a dinky 5" monitor?

Does this work with director's motors for viewing on-set with zero latency?
There's something I've been asking myself since the introduction of the ZATO Connect, but I didn't yet have the chance to try it, does the ZATO connect support camera to cloud? I personally don't care for external recording on my projects, but camera to cloud is a really fascinating feature that I would like to get my hands on, and the ZATO connect seems like a perfect way to do so in a very lean way. Have you tested camera to cloud on the ZATO connect? does it work? does it still support the same naming pattern of the in camera clips?

We already announced at IBC that ZATO Connect will also support Camera to Cloud. This will be around the end of this year.

Yes, you can livestream multi camera inputs using AtomX Cast and Shogun 7 with Zato connect, or any PGM out can be plugged into connect devices to make your multi camera inputs live on your preferred live streaming platform.

Do the new monitors also have timecode options? How much do you use timecode on your projects?
The Atomos products generate their own timecode. Timecode makes a lot of sense in the C2C workflow. As you learn from the video, Shogun Connect and Ninja with the Atomos Connect option record 2 files. One is the "Hero" file the other one is the proxy version that gets uploaded to frame io. The proxy has precisely the same filename & timecode; this is managed by the Atomos device. If you start your timeline in the editor first with the proxy, but you like to reconnect later to the Hero file, it's just 2 mouse clicks because your editor will recognize the files automatically.
Btw: The proxies uploaded to frame io already have a good quality, enough to use straight in social postings without waiting for the Hero files.
Can you use the 2nd monitor for wireless follow focus and does it give you the focus peaking on the 2nd monitor?
Today, Atomos Connect devices do not connect with each other. But this is on the roadmap
So, iJustine is just a spokesmodel now. Cool.

does the Zato Connect also have focus peaking?
Would this allow me to use my camera and ninja v+ as a wireless rig for a zoom call? I am aware of the AtomX Cast, but that’s not wireless.
No. These are not currently wireless video transmitters.
The cloud features are great, but the live video features kinda suck. Still limited to RTMP and no support for SRT, which would not only be a more stable connection, but can cut down the bandwidth in half when paired with HEVC.
Soon you can control the quality of the proxies and the streaming part. SRT is also on the roadmap
Regardless, the option for HEVC would be nice for the livestream aspect. H.264 isn't as compressed and as good for streaming. Really useful in combination with SRT for lower bandwidth and transmitting over cellular.
I use frame io a lot and i love it, but i wonder if can do the same you do on davinci instead of premiere?
There is an integration for Davinvi as well :)

Has anyone tried the Zato with a canon c100? The zato doesn’t seem to recognize when the c100 is connected. I tried using different hdmi cables but still nothing.
Armando, can I send the files to Davinci as well? And can I send the files to premier and possibly Davinci using the Atomos Zato also?
The files don’t get sent to Premiere Pro directly, it uses FrameIO. You can use FrameIO with any NLE. The difference is that Adobe integrated it into Premiere Pro so you don’t have to take an extra step

Do you know if this will connect to the atomremote app for live viewing of the footage, like a terradeck would, but with an iPad or similar?
AtomRemote has never been for live viewing. It's for remote control of Ninjas with the Connect module and Shogun Connect, over Bluetooth.

Is there anything in place to keep the proxy upload going if wifi connectivity drops? Or say we are shooting b-roll inside then go outside for a few clips away from wifi does it continue uploading again once back on wifi later?
They can use mobile phone data over a cord too and also some have ethernet built in or with a usb type c to ethernet adapter giving you 3 ways to upload

Please note that at the moment The Atomos Connect with Ninja V or Shogun Connect does not have the ability to wirelessly transmit a video signal directly to another monitor. However ATOMOS has developed a full implementation of the amazingly efficient NDI®|HX standard for
ATOMOS CONNECT and SHOGUN CONNECT. NDI technology has been developed to make
communication between devices on local network (LAN) easy to setup, provide refined encoding, and
deliver frame accurate video. Initial support will be for NDI|HX encode (to act as an NDI source or
transmission device) and with a software update later this year ATOMOS will introduce NDI|HX
decode (to receive the NDI source signal for viewing and recording). This will enable customers to
share the picture between multiple devices locally and select a specific device (or devices) to record
the NDI encoded file.

You can still use FrameIO it’s not deeply integrated like Premiere Pro but you can still use it. Alternatively you can also usé Dropbox too.
Needs a cell chip.
Even just a SIM card slot so that you can use your own carrier as a "hot spot" would be great!

Basically Atomos just introduced a new product that is going to increase the gap between beginner filmmakers and bigger production companies, so, practically there is no reason for the clients to pick up the first option. Good stuff👍

An option but I prefer 12 bit recording from my gh6 via ninja. Much cheaper and ssd too.
